Ever play a video game and just, something about the area you’re in feels… of, or unsettling?

A liminal space refers to physical places (hallways, airports, empty malls) or psychological states (adolescence, job changes) that feel eerie, surreal, or unsettling due to their in-between nature, evoking nostalgia, anticipation, or unease. (Taken from google)

Personally for me, after designing several houses in animal crossing, the houses have kinda taken on a very liminal feeling, i think it’s the wallpapers being just the same texture on every wall, areas that just feel not quite right, it feels very liminal after a while.

Feel free to add other games or areas in games you think have a liminal vibe

Literally everything in Portal is like this.
Portal and Half Life too. Especially places like the offices that are more similar to common real world places.

Superliminal and The Stanley Parable are games that play into this feeling heavily as well. I would add certain areas in the L4D games such as the mall. Maybe Valve games in general have something going on >_>

I still get kind of confused when people bring this term up, but I guess Super Mario 64 fits going by the definition, or at least some areas in the game feel unnerving to me lol. Some worlds feel this way to me in the first Kingdom Hearts game as well.

If you mean the 'Backrooms' type stuff... I do kind of like it. I tend to watch playthroughs/YouTubers play it though and don't actually play it myself.

However I also get and understand the mentality that it's 'boring' and there's never a 'consistent threat/enemy' in these types of games.
