I'm not sure if this has been mentioned before but I couldn't find it so I thought I'd start a thread on it.

What effect if any will the Lock Capsule have in BW? Will it unlock an event/event pokemon. Will it be used to evolve a certain Pokemon, or is it just leftover data from HGSS beta. The text was translated into english as "a sturdy capsule that can only be opened with a special key". How do you get this key, if at all, and what is inside? We know there's nothing on it in HGSS but what about in BW?

I will admit, I have been very curious about this item since it was discovered. From the in-game dialogue, it appears that it can be transferred. So maybe, just before Black/White's release, Japan will get the event, and be prompted to send it to B/W.

I'm calling another GS Ball/Teru Sama incident- everyone gets up in arms over it, we have about 100 crazy theories, there's a truck in B&W that people are SO CONVINCED will be the key to getting that elusive 601st Pokemon but, alas, the Lock Capsule ends up being the original plan to get Zorua, scrapped in favor of a new in-game event.

I'm eager to see what, if anything, it does. There's the chance it could just be some unused, beta item; however I'm hoping it'll be for some as-yet unknown in-game event.

As for transferring it... I guess there'd have to be some special mechanism in the game to do that, because normally key items can't be moved once you've got them in your bag.

You would think of how many people that have hacked the game, we'd know what it would do by now.

I'm going with beta, like with Crystal's item.

Although I agree with the beta theory being most likely, hacking Gen FOUR games won't tell us if it has any importance in Gen FIVE. That's the argument being put forth. Hacking the special Jirachi and Pikachu Colored Pichus did not reveal that they were meant for a Pokewalker course and an event in the next game, that was handled when they were transferred over. The argument is that, if the item is placed into a player's inventory by an event and then traded to the other Gen attached to a Pokemon, that in B&W it will check the player's inventory for containing "Lock Capsule" and then only activate an event based on that.

Also, in Crystal it was not a beta item. The Teru Sama was a placeholder item that was put in or after the GS Ball ball was removed from the Japanese version. In Japan, the GS Ball could be added to the inventory through a cell-phone-connected online event, which triggered a Celebi event in game after being given.

It's true that as a Key Item, the Lock Capsule can't be transferred to BW by any currently known means, but why does this preclude any other means of interaction?

Maybe if a HGSS game with the Lock Capsule and a BW game with an appropriate key for the capsule interact in a Union Room, both games will receive something special.

Um, the GS Ball is in the English games. And the German games. And all games outside of Japan. There was probably planned to be some way to distribute it when the cellphone idea fell through in North America, but there's only one real way: you gotta shark it into your bag or a store so you can buy it.

The Teru-Sama is the same as the ? items in RSEFRLG and DPPtHGSS. Placeholder data. The GS Ball becomes a Teru-Sama if it's forced to be held on a Pokémon (a Pokémon can hold key items, if the data is altered, and the key item can be taken off) and then traded from Crystal to GS. This happened to me once with Stadium 2. Due to my Red's glitchedness because of Missingno., a 13th box appeared, and one of the Pokémon in it was holding a Clear Bell according to Stadium 2. I traded that Pokémon to Gold because Crystal wasn't yet out, and tried to take it off, only to find a Teru-Sama being held by my Pokémon.

If the Griseous Orb were able to be held when trading it would come out as the unusable ? in DP. Yes, this means that if you hack a Pokémon in DP holding a ? item, you may possibly end up with another Griseous Orb in Pt or HGSS, but only if it's the ? with index number 112. If it's got index number 113, it's gonna be a ?.

Well, if there's data on the man in green to give you the capsule in Hg/Ss, then it must have a purpose. I'm going with pro on this one. I mean, why else would they include the item for Gen IV when it has no true purpose... unless it has a different purpose.

From PokéBeach:
The Rock / Lock capsule has a relationship to Wi-Fi. In the game data, there is text that says, “The Rock Capsule is being looked after carefully. The Rock Capsule arrived safely!” It’s probably a pre-programmed Mystery Gift. The data for the text above is in the same location as the Manaphy egg from Pokemon Ranger. Could there be a special Pokemon inside, a special item like the Mystery Crystal, or could it unlock something in a future game?
I wouldn't be surprised if, coupled with next month's announcement about obtaining Zoroark, if the Lock Capsule contains a Zorua egg.

Don't laugh at me but I believe the Lock Capsule might be a way to transfer Spiky-Eared Pichu to Black/White. You jam her in the capsule, and smugle her past the Pokécenter's attendants and then trade the capsule to the next game. Then Elm will become insane when he can't find the creature anywhere and doesn't understand how you were able to beat his foolproof plan of preventing the trading of SEP, resulting him committing suicide by jumping off his lab's roof or drowning himself to the Johto/Kanto border river.

Well, Elm's suicide might not be likely but I honestly believe this could be the way to bypass the restriction on trading SEP. If it won't be achieved by this enigmatic Lock Capsule, I still believe they'll find a way to allow trading SEP to Black and White. They wouldn't have banned trading her so effectively if they hadn't had a plan to counter the restriction. I'll be very pissed off if there's no possible way to transfer my Spiky-Eared Pichu to the fifth generation.

Well, that river is famous for suicides ;)

Anyways, I doubt the lock capsule has anything to do with Spiky.

No, the Lock Capsule is to contain Elm so you can then trade the Pichu over.

Key items can't be attached to Pokemon, so I don't think that would be the mechanism by which this is transferrable to B&W (if it even is). There'd be some other way to do it.

...probably 2 DS's are needed, for a wireless transfer, perhaps? Or how about the old switcheroo, like the PlayStation? where one card's inserted before removing it, and placing the other one inside?

I am calling either unused or to unlock Zorak (or whatever the new pokemon is called) and when you put it on Gen V games, you get this special Zorak with special moves or stats etc... (like the Manaphy egg)

What if in BW you can get Key Items like the Lock Capsule from HGSS by a method similar to Pal Park, in that the item is "tossed" from HGSS and then appears in BW. So a screen opens saying transfer the Lock Capsule, it removes the lock capsule in your HGSS Bag and puts it in your BW bag. Personally, if the way to obtain Zorua/Zoruark revealed next month isn't the Lock Capsule then I am starting to think that it was just left over beta data.
