Since Bulbapedia and the Archives are locked, should Bulbanews be locked too?

Before the lock, though, can someone try to move Draft:Third American TCG set announced out of the Draft namespace? I keep getting 504s. EDIT: Thanks trom!

While I have the ability to lock Bulbanews, I'm hesitant to do so without Rex's approval. Bulbanews isn't so openly editable anyway, so I'm not sure how much server strain this would save.

Your article has been moved to the mainspace. Took me one try ;)

Any way to get Bulbapedia account creation locked temporarily too? Those new users are still flooding in.

Users aren't really that big an issue, considering they're not able to do much. As far as I'm aware, there's no way to cease account creation without completely shutting down the site.

Hahahahaha, no not touching that one. Bulbawiki's localsettings file is an absolute mess of switch statements. I mean, sometimes I have a hard time wading through old code I made for switch tables, but... when it's something I don't even know, in a language I never used, never gonna happen. The wikis are already dead enough as-is without me crashing them.

My point. It's not even close to being as safe as locking the database.

On the fourth day the techs gave Archaic the go ahead to give me the go ahead to reopen the wiki. And so it was done, and trom said to himself "BED TIME". Play nice, now. And don't eat anything Arbok offers you.

Although since then the ability to save edits had been taken away by Sketch again I don't mind as I can at least preview the edits, while I keep the text saved in Microsoft Word, which much better since I can prepare for my next big edit, and I know that Sketch had a very noble intention to do so.

Basically, too much stuff happened at once. We had a vandal attack, the new Pokemon were trickling out, Jello and I continued to get errors as we were cleaning up the vandalism, and the server was slow. Honestly, it was for the best and was unforeseen.

The main page says it's because of Template:Roundy, is this not true then?

If it is because of the template, a few things that could remedy or at least reduce server load are:
- Don't use a single centralized template. Use multiple templates and update them at different times so as to reduce the amount of job queue entries. Although, unless you are using a customized MediaWiki, the job queue should empty only during non-peak hours.
- Move them to CSS. The arguments the template takes are usually left blank or have common values, right? Particularly the 'tl/tr/bl/br' switch statement. You could remove the switch statement entirely which seems to be the only thing that would require a lot of computing power (at least for over 16000 tasks).

Maybe some others, too.

From what I've heard, we're breaking it up into seperate templates (top-right, top-left, bottom-right, bottom-left, both top corners, both bottom corners, both left corners, both right corners, and full roundy)

Actually, I'm fairly sure this is the exact opposite of what happens in a standard installation - it empties faster during peak hours, because a job is dequeued with a constant probability on each page visit.

Either way, we've discovered Roundy to be the cause of only a certain amount of slowdown. We want to avoid that, so we will be splitting it apart for individual corners and sides.

The current issue is something else entirely... and we're actually not even sure yet what's causing it, but it's throwing everything off balance.
