Why did the blonde only smell good on one side?

The word comes from French, a language in which all nouns are either male or female, and as in this case, some can be either. It's supposed to be "blond" for males and "blonde" for females.

But we should be talking American, we're....IN AMERICA!
 
We do that with fiancé[e] as well, and the rarely heard (at least by me...) né[e]. So there are just some words whose silent letters we keep to indicate sex.
 
In American news style, "blond" is for males, and "blonde" is for females, so it is the same in English as in French.
