Longest/Hardest Shiny Hunt?

be it soft resetting for hours on end, filling boxes with eggs, or chaining, shiny pokemon are truly difficult to get. but the satisfaction that comes with finally seeing that pink mareep sparkling on your screen is enough to justify the tedious process that is put into obtaining it. of course, some people get really lucky with managing to get shinies within just 12 encounters.

on the other end, it may take several months, sometimes even years to finally encounter that special sparkle! (this doesn't count for separate phases of trying for a specific shiny) what is your longest or most difficult shiny that you've hunted?

i've been masuda-ing for 2 months for a shiny darumaka in Sun/Moon with no luck and over 3,000 eggs hatched, what luck.

My Chimchar hunt. It's been going on for fifteen months and nothing. I thought the first shiny Golett hunt I completed in Unova was bad--that was around four months or so--but this one has been insane.

I'm going to try the Swap Breeding method a few more times and see if that helps. I just want to finish this out. Seriously. It's driving me nuts.

My third longest hunt was for my shiny Eevee, which is now a Naive Jolteon. I SOS chained it, needed about 3 700+ chains to finally get it. If I just showed to someone, the person would of have thought I RNG'd it. It has 4 IVs, like most chained shinies have. But on top of that, the two other IVs are Fantastic. I seriously thought I had managed to capture a 6IV good natured shiny Eevee when I took a glance at that.
My second longest hunt was for my Lapras. Lapras eggs are the one of the longest to hatch, with 40 egg cycles. I needed to hatch 1385 of them to find the purple Lapras.
And my longest hunt of 'em all, for now, is still ongoing. I've read Gladion's speech 7500 times, trying to get a shiny Type: Null, no luck yet. Though one of the times I decided to check the normal Null I received, it came with 4IVs, so that's cool. I've wouldn't be surprised if I were to discover that one of the Nulls I received were 6IV at this point, and would have regretted it for a sec. I want my Type: Bronze.

However, I still have more chances to have longer hunts. I want all the legendaries on OR on their shiny forms, I pretend on legitimately getting shiny legendaries from my Pokémon Blue on Virtual Console, and one of these days, I'mma get cartridges for the earlier generations too, and get their shiny legendaries. The one I'm expecting to take the longest will probally be the shiny Manaphy.

Honorable mention: My friend really wanted a shiny Vulpix. Not only that, but one with HA. So, he hatched about 1700 eggs, getting two shinies on the way. Both with Snow Cloak. I couldn't hunt for the shiny Null yet, so I said "yo, go get ma shiny Null, let me handle this." So I continued his hunt, also hatching two shinies. Pro: one of them had Snow Warning! Con: it was on the 1300 and sumthing egg. So, together, me and my friend hatched about 3k eggs for a Pokémon with a 60% chance of having the correct ability. And we failed that 60% chance THREE F-ING TIMES!

Shiny Rockruff for three days (left the game on the entire time) then gave up for a few days, finally got it.

Soft-resetting for shiny Latios/Latias (can't remember which) in OR I guess. Did that for a few months. I guess technically I'm still waiting but I don't have time for this nonsense right now~

I hunted for a shiny Sneasel in DP for my sister for like 2 or 3 months. Never found one :/

My longest hunt was for a shiny Gastly in XY, I probably hatched like 4,000 eggs just for that one. Coming off from a shiny Litwick that hatched on the FIRST egg, I think it was the universe's way of maintaining balance or something...
I also SRed for a shiny Cyndaquil for like 6 months every day... I never got it.

In Moon, the longest it's taken so far is 450 for my Snivy. Worthless, also, because I got Overgrow instead of Contrary. But I literally only breed until I shiny or get a 6IV. Since this version gives a new chain for every new parent, it makes sense to reset chains often.

I've been very lucky with shinies (even though I haven't got one in two months, but that's just because I haven't really been trying). My longest hunt was for the Eevee that got my Sylveon, at about 785 encounters. (Gosh I really hope that my luck doesn't change because I'm saying this).

But to me, SOS hunting isn't that bad. Masuda method hunts are just energy consuming though. At 630 eggs, with still no shiny Popplio, I put it on hold, to probably never go back to it. Masuda Method is just, so annoying.
