It looks like we may have people with cheap, sharked Pokemon on Wifi for D/p now.

Now, I don't mind using gameshark to get unobtainable Pokemon, such as all the ones we couldn't get in R/S and stuff, but I don't want to battle level 5 Pikachus with stats of a Metagross.

Thoughts? Hopefully Wifi can somehow prevent unfair stat Pokemon.

Btw, is this considered against the rules? It's about gameshark, but more of how it may affect the game then using it.

GameShark is hardly illegal.

Anyway, the Stadium/Collosseum games were capable of spotting illegalities. There really shouldn't be much problem with that. Most likely, smart people will use this to make Netbattle-style Pokemon (perfect IVs, perfect Hidden Powers, perfect movesets, etc).

Since it's going to make use of the Friend Code system, just don't battle people that have sharked Pokemon

That's true.

Anyway, I think the Friend Code thing is gonna be awesome.

I swear, my list of 32 people is probably gonna get full really quick, just as soon as D/P come out. XD

Well, I never minded fighting sharked monsters before (either sharked species or sharked moves).. but the sharked stats is a bad thing. Hopefully it won't get out of hand.

Well, since it's friend codes, you can atleast battle people you trust.

I think Misty is right, they'll paint and=or any illegal moves and stats that don't fit the Pokemon and level. And since people have already been using Pokemon with perfect IV's, tailored HP's, Pokemon unobtainable without an event, multiple use TM's and everything that's legal in the games they'll let that slide.

The smart people will do so, I WILL be getting an AR-DS when D/P comes out.
I won't use it other for the purpose stated above.

Then we have the idiots who place 999 in each stat. How "fun".

999 stats would never make it past the checksums. It's the same thing I'll be doing to my Pokemon if a I feel it. Usually I just use cheat codes to get Pokemon I either can't get on the game or to get them earlier (like Magnemite in R/S).

I don't mind sharked pokemon, and I'm actually looking forward to someone unlocking the "Nintendo Event Onry!" pokemon and giving them away.

Pokemon like that will likely be available at DS Download stations or by downloading through the Wii.

It's really rather likely that cheating for them just because you can't get to New York on a specific date is a thing of the past.

I'm picking up the new AR DS myself anyway. I hope to use it less, but if anyone's going to get screwed over on getting "unobtainables" it's Europe.

Yeah, well, honestly I don't think NOA will do distributions that way, Japan's already not heading in that direction with Manaphy.. Maybe we'll get lucky and the US will release something with the movie, but they'll probably say "Take your Pokemon Ranger to New York to get the Manaphy quest" like we have no life and like America is centruallized around New York! -end mini rant about Nintendo World/ Pokemon Center USA

Ok.. seriously one more thing, I think PKMN Center USA would have done even better in San Francisco (and LA) than new york because we're closer to japan, plus Anime and stuff is popular and has been popular longer than Anime being mainstream. I know I can't say "more than New York" because I haven't been there, but logically it should be true :-p I just say that there should have been at least 8 Pokemon Centers in the US for america to do: New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Miami, Los Angeles, Honolulu, Austin/San Antonio, and Denver. Its not like that should be much a problem for Nintendo :-p
-now end mini-rant

If Nintendo did open another store in the U.S., chances are it would be in the Seattle area, as that's where NoA is headquartered (Redmond, specifically).

THere should also be one in Orlando, since that appears to be the central hub of Florida..

Though I wouldn't put it past Nintendo to require players to jump through hoops to get the "legendaries" Hopefully it'll be something like "Connect to the Nintendo Wi-Fi from this date to that date or go to your local Toys R us like they did with Animal Crossing...

Even if it is just "connect to WiFi at this date or that date" it's a vast improvement on "Be in America and New York on this single date or you'll never get this Pokemon, ever.".

I'd imagine it's extremely likely they'll take advantage of the WFC and Wii Connectivity throughout the entire generation for a wide selection of things. Unobtainables are definitely going to be in that, though if it were all of them and without a catch I'd be surprised.

I still imagine that "Japan Only" things, or at least most of them, will be available through the Wii or Download Pods though, especially the extra Ranger missions.

That is a fairly queer suggestion, considering that Ranger does not employ Download Play for its additional content.

The Ranger Net feature of the game is unlike Mystery Gift in that it cannot even be viewed before receiving the Manaphy and Deoxys W-Missions. For unlocking this menu, a green GBA cartridge was used in stores across Japan - obviously not packaged with the game - from which the game would download the data. As said, the Ranger Net comes with the two W-Missions already loaded, but there is a function which searches for wireless communication meant for further downloads (the Celebi and Mew W-Missions).

The Nintendo DS Stations interact solely with the system, rather than its games, as will WiiConnect24 judging from current information. This rules out the possibility of using either one of these for the Ranger Net, which requires the game to be running instead of Download Play.

Mystery Gift, on the other hand, is a different case - at least on the Nintendo DS. As a fact, Download Play data can be manipulated to trick the GBA games into thinking Mystery Gift is picking up standard wireless communication (when the transmission process has long been completed by the time the game is loaded). This method was used last year for the final distribution of Mew in PokéPark, Japan.

One may ask why the same cannot be done for Ranger Net. Seeing as I have no firm answer on the matter, I would avoid the technicalities and settle for the fact that even if it were possible, the Ranger Net option itself would still have to be unlocked through the GBA cartridge. The focal point of the feature is the movie promotion, a real-life event, as opposed to the W-Missions themselves. This is what separates it from Mystery Gift which can be easily accessed by means of a password.

In short, look forward to finally being able to put Mystery Gift to use with the arrival of the Wii system. The special tickets are but a small part, and even they remain unexplored by many players (cheaters excluded). As far as Ranger is concerned, it is best to cross fingers for a Manaphy event within Diamond and Pearl or a later game which would not necessitate a real-life event.

I'm not too interested in Ranger though, since you can't trade from it to other pokemon versions...

I'm hoping the "unobtainables" aren't going to be too strict. I remember there was a (un??)official Pokemon tournament at my local mall, hopefully with this WiFi/Wireless thing it can be as small as that instead of needing a big huge area to have a pokegathering for these pokemon. Considering I haven't seen anything pokemon come through my town since...and I don't live in a small town either...

EDIT: Reading UNown Lords post, I get the deep sinking feeling that they aren't going to give us Mew, Celebi, Ho-oh, Lugia and other non D/P unobtainables on Wii/DS Download and that we are going to have to already have them from Colosseum, XD, and former events :/

You are entitled to that feeling, as it is indeed the consensus. What matters to me is that you are aware of the existence of an alternative, and that you understand that simply dispensing the third generation games will come with a price.
