Welcome to the sixth installment in the Lost Tower Forum's new weekly series of polls!

Centered around the older installments of the Pokemon series of video games, these polls will be based on the various different aspects of the popular video game franchise. Every Monday, a Video Games staff member will post a new poll that'll remained stickied up on top of the forum. Suggestions for polls and questions can be sent to Joshawott, and they could possibly used for new polls (credit will be given, of course).

With that out of the way, here is the poll: What is the best "Johto Starter"? Do you like leafy Chikorita, are you Cyndaquil crazy or is your favourite totally Totodile?

hmm well I looked back silver I started totodile, I think gold I started chikorita and crystal I started with cyndaquil, I feel like I can remember more of fighting with him but not sure. chikorita is a pretty hard start against a flying then a bug gym. I feel like Gen II with most people was just like gen I and people preffered the fire and water starters. As for best? I'm not surevwhile last one of these I had a bit more of an opinion but currently not sure on this one.

Cyndaquil. Can take the other 2 out without a problem and has the best chance of taking on the Elite 4 and winning. If only he had a better movepool. He's not the Pokemon he used to be.

If we're talking about G/S/C, then it's Cyndaquil, sadly. Chikorita has little to no advantage on anyone at Johto, and Totodile couldn't abuse his physical attack stat. If we're talking about HG/SS, then it's Totodile for this following set: Dragon Dance, Waterfall, EQ, and Ice Punch.

that moveset isn't very useful since you need to breed for it.

Just get the Swords Dance TM, plus with available Waterfall/Aqua Tail (and in-game, Surf does okay till it gets that) and other physical moves it certainly is no slouch, whereas I feel Typloshion has a too limited special movepool, at the very least for an in-game perspective (Fire moves and Focus Blast is mostly what I can find that's really viable moves. Thunderpunch in GSC is certainly a plus though).

A Water/Normal combo hits a lot neutral, plus add Ice Fang and Crunch and you've got potential. You certainly don't need to breed to get something good, at least for in-game.

But yeah, I like all of them, but obviously Totodile (or should I say Feraligatr) is my clear favorite. I'm not too fond of Meganium and Quilava, but Bayleef is cool and Cyndaquil and Typloshion is pretty awesome. The Johto starters is clearly my favorite set of starters, so it's not that I don't like Chikorita or Cyndaquil though.

I voted for Cyndaquil/Typhlosion. As well as being perhaps the best choice for G/S/C/HG/SS's adventure, I have fond memories of using an Electric-Type attack on a Fire-Type Pokemon before the Physical/Special move split took away Typhlosion's effectiveness with Thunderpunch. Though Typhlosion could do with a better movepool, I like Extrasensory and no Pokemon with high speed and Eruption should be underestimated.

I did best when I chose Totodile. But I like Chikorita and Cyndaquil better otherwise...

Best as far as battle ability for me is Totodile, though.

Cindaquil. G/S/C was like a walk in the park. And Typhlosion was a beast in those games. It could Flamethrower OHKO whole Lance's team.

Cindy. I think I'm saying this for the hundredth time, but I solo-ed the Johto region with Cyndaquil, using other pokes only for HM slaves. All battles were done by Typhlosion and I also solo-ed the League with Typhlosion. So the usefulness is epic.

Besides, Cindy is super-effective, or neutral against almost all the gym leaders (except Clair, and Chuck's Poliwrath). Other than that, Typhlosion just owned them all.

Chikorita is just too cute! I didn't think the other one's were cute o_O
