Pokemon RPG-Like Idea (some preliminary ideas)

In the fantastic Pokemon world of Esperia, hundreds of pearls lie scattered across the land, waiting for a fortunate adventurer to find them. Many believe they are gifts from Arceus and the Legendaries, but no one knows for sure where they came from. If they were gifts from heaven, what were they for?

So one swordmage named Ash decided to find out the truth.

After rallying three of his companions--the valkyrie Misty, the minstrel Brock, and the runeblade Serena--Ash embarked on a long journey across Esperia for answers. But what started as curiosity soon turned into a journey to save the world. It was discovered that Ash and his companions were not the only ones seeking the pearls--some were seeking them to revive four fallen god-Pokemon, and devastate the world. But if enough of them could be gathered by warriors with good and pure hearts, the fallen god-Pokemon would be banished forever, and evil destroyed once and for all.

What adventures await the swordmage, the valkyrie, the minstrel, and the runeblade on their travels? Can they harness the power of the pearls to save their world?

The Group and their Trad Galarian Music (some worldbuilding for the Elite Eight in the remixed animeverse)

The traditional music of Galar is an international success story, and one of the best loved genres of traditional music in the Pokeworld. In addition to new bands starting in Galar every day, there are renowned trad Galarian (as the genre is affectionately nicknamed) bands in Unova, all across Europa, and even in Waku.

The group are one of many Wakunese that enjoy playing this style of music, and frequently mix Unovan mountain music, Kalosian gypsy jazz, Kalosian and Paldean Celtic tunes, and even trad Galarian twists on classical themes and rock songs.

The group's typical trad Galarian and storytelling setup (known under various names and lineups through the years, but currently named Elementalis) typically looks like this:

Ash--flutes, whistles, harmonica, fiddle (rarely), backup vocals
Misty--fiddle, backup vocals, keyboards (rarely)
Brock--guitar, harps (both a large Galarian harp and a smaller wire strung minstrel's harp), lead vocals
Serena--fiddle, mandolin, accordion, backup vocals
May--vocals, guitar (if Brock is busy with one of the harps), mandolin (if Serena is busy playing fiddle or accordion), percussion, dancing
Dawn--fiddle, tin whistle (if Ash is busy with one of his flutes or the harmonica), backup vocals, dancing
Liko--acoustic guitar (rarely), harps (Galarian harp and Paldean harp), tin whistle, ocarina, percussion, vocals, dancing
Roy--percussion, classical guitar, backup vocals

When the group is performing a show as Elementalis, they wear colorful minstrel costumes. Brock's costume, a majestic purple, red, and gold outfit, signals he is the leader of the group, and often serves as the master of ceremonies during shows. The group has won many prizes and awards for their lively and dramatic storytelling that almost borderlines on a theatrical production--many rave that their performances as Elementalis are not to be missed.

What a Pokemon: Hundred Heroes Might Look Like (exploring what something like Suikoden or Eiyuden Chronicle might look like in Ancient Waku)

What is staying from the inspiration:

--100+ heroes--the Elite Eight+characters from Gen 1-9 (and some of the spinoffs) A story version would just focus on the Elite Eight)
--Magic is acquired via valuable items (pearls, in this case)
--There are plenty of things do outside of the main adventure
--You can catch and care for Pokemon (what you have to beat are your typical RPG monsters--to catch a Pokemon, all Ruby Phoenix (nee Ash) has to do is play his mystical flute)

What is different from the inspiration:

--Rather than a pseudo-European-like land, this grand adventure is set in Ancient Waku (Poke-Japan)-martial arts, yokai, over the top theater and all.
--The theater scripts (which you find out in the wild) reflect mostly Asian stories, not European ones
--Some of the mini games are different

A Gen 10 What If--Pokemon Earth and Pokemon Sky (a thought experiment/possible story idea of what Gen 10 could look like)

--Pokemon Earth's mascot would be a red serpentine dragon thing--distinct from Gyarados, and at least part Ground type. Pokemon Sky's mascot would be a shiny pegasus thing named Brilavalo (brilliant+cavallo--Italian for "horse) that is Fairy/Flying
--The region would be inspired by Italy--possible names would be Arcoba (from arcobaleno, rainbow); Talie (a stylized spelling of Italy) or Amizia (based on the Italian word for friendship--since the imagined games' themes are friendship and unity.
--Fedeleo Town Is often the first place visitors to the region arrive. The resident professor, Prof. Laurel, has her lab here. If a trainer is interested in taking the Gym challenge, they can choose between the deer-like Petavo (petal+cervo; Italian for 'deer'), the fire chick Pollucia (pollastra, an Italian word for 'chick'+St. Lucia, a saint associated with light. Unlike Torchic, Pollucia actually has wings, and a flowing tail--a hint of its phoenix like final form), or the water dog Rugicane (rugiada, Italian for 'dew'+cane, Italian for dog. Unlike Growlithe, Rugicane looks a little more like a wolf pup--a hint to its final dual Water/Ice wolf form

The Group's Streaming Traditions (some worldbuilding for the group in the remixed animeverse)

When the group is streaming on Eight Spirits TV (their joint gaming channel), there's always a few traditions the group follows:

--The stream music while viewers are settling in is appropriate to what it is the group is doing that particular stream. If they are not playing any game in particular, or multiple games in the same stream, the default music is a version of Mario Paint's Creative Exercise. The Creative Exercise is also played while games (and sometimes consoles) are being changed out, and if technical difficulties have occurred.

--The stream begins with one of the group saying "Hi, this is (Spirit name here), for Eight Spirits TV."

--Depending on what is being streamed, the group may also dress up in costume (either their Eight Spirits costumes or a costume appropriate for the game being played) They will always dress up in costume for streams on or around Halloween. Fans will often get to vote on the costume theme for Halloween streams.

--Sometimes, they will let users play games with them, or spectate in an audience--Brock will let users know of this as users arrive.

--While the group mainly streams RPGs, Mario, Zelda, Trainer's Quest (the Pokemon games we know and love), and party games are not unheard of. (Mario Party, in all its incarnations, is a fan favorite.)

--The group's schedule is planned out in advance, but fans can suggest games for the group to play--fans can and do donate games to the group.

--If an RPG has a cooking mechanic, Brock will often attempt to recreate at least one of the in game dishes with real ingredients--these cooking interludes are fan favorites.

--The group is not opposed to playing their own music or doing their takes on character voices--usually if the in game music is annoying or the in game voices are bad.

"Journey of the Eight Spirits" Game Timeline (some worldbuilding for an in universe game series the group likes)

NES

Journey of the Eight Spirits (first game in the series; had an overworld that rivaled Zelda, but you only controlled Ruby Phoenix directly)
Tale of the Harmonious Kirin (first game that allowed you to control more of the Eight Spirits--you could control up to four of the eight)

Game Boy

The Secret of the Ribbon (first handheld game)

SNES

The Elemental Staff (introduced a much bigger quest, first appearance of the theater sidequest--a series staple; first time you could control all eight Spirits (by freely swapping who was in a four member party)
Wish of the Miracle Star (regarded as one of the best in the series to this day--first to introduce the four Guardian Gods as superbosses)
The Great Rings and the Diamond Key (considered one of the longest SNES games to beat)

GBC

The Tale of the Sacred Rain
The Deerling's Melody

N64

Eight Spirits 64: The Silver Pearls (first to introduce instrument mechanics for Ruby Phoenix and Emerald Raikou--built on a version of the Zelda engine)
Eight Spirits 64: Tale of the Brilliant Dragon

GameCube

The Tale of the Sapphire Mist Crown (first and so far only game to continue the story from another game; picking up where the second N64 game left off)
The Seal of Spiritomb (a fan favorite)
The Deerling and the White Braviary (a fan favorite; remembered for its flying mechanics)
The Miracle of the Phoenix (a fan favorite; and one of the longest games in the series)

GBA

The Light of the Holy Lantern
The Tale of the Divine Crowns

Wii

The Blades of Fire (notable for its intuitive motion controls--although the option to button mash is there)
Chase of the Black Scyther

Traveling Through An Ancient World (revising an Eight Spirits idea--inspired by Legends: Arceus and InuYasha)

What is staying from the inspiration:

--Ancient forms of the classic Trio (as Noble Spirits)
--rogue/yokai/warlord of the day/week/whenever
--The three spirits are looking for pearls

What is different:

--No one from the modern Pokeworld is coming to Ancient Waku--Ruby Phoenix (Ash/Satoshi). Sapphire Dragon (Misty/Kasumi) and Emerald Raikou (Brock/Takeshi) are meant to be in the ancient world all along.
--Rather than shards of one pearl, our heroes are looking for many pearls
--The Trio is not just fighting yokai--there are also rogue martial artists, general rogues and warlords involved

The other five Noble Spirits do appear to help the main Trio out--Golden Delphox's running gag is soap (as many Wakunese in this time value Kalosian soap as more than gold--so she has adapted the Kalosian recipe to fit Wakunese ingredients.)

How to Implement Midori Into Lightning Yellow (some ideas to unstick writers' block)

Basically, Midori (FR/LG girl) would be a friendly rival to Ash, to serve as a contrast to Gary. She is in the stateroom next to the Trio on the ill fated SS Anne cruise, and so would serve as a bit of a tour guide for the ship. She does wash up on the Island of the Giant Pokemon with the Trio.

She has three Pokemon with her, borrowed from her counterpart in Let's Go:

--Kari the Clefairy
--Rei the Vulpix
--Sprinkle the Squirtle (a reference to my very first Pokemon in Blue)

Should she catch more Pokemon, she would eventually catch an Eevee (not sure what she would evolve to) and a Bulbasaur.

My questions for now:

--Would Ash know Midori at all, seeing as she too is from Pallet?
--Would Misty or Brock know Midori? If Brock knows Midori, he helped her catch Kari. If Misty knows Midori, she helped her train Sprinkle

If she lived in Pallet Town, then her knowing Ash I think makes sense depending on where she lived as well as how old she is compared to Ash.

Traveling Martial Arts Adventure Ideas (a thought experiment)

"I wanna be, the very best, like no one ever was" has been the heartbeat of Pokemon since Day 1. In modern times, this usually means a trainer off to prove themselves worthy of Pokemon League Champion. But what does that look like in a time when people were still leery of what Pokemon were able to do? (since it is implied by Legends: Arceus that Pokemon battles are a relatively new innovation)

My answer to this is in ancient times, it was the humans themselves that battled, via martial arts, many of which were informed by Pokemon.

So what would be the journey to the League today, would be a long journey to the Indigo City (modern day Indigo Plateau) and battling in the grand tournament there, with hundreds of schools and sects gathering from across Waku to prove themselves before Emperor Divine Dragon--Lance's ancestor.

There would still be Pokemon to be had on such an adventure--but mainly as companions, or as protection.

Since there was no centralized League just yet, and no set number of badges, it was not unheard of for these martial artists to have hundreds, if not thousands of emblems earned from any and every noble dojo master they could find. The only rule that was in place is that the duel was non lethal--killing or gravely wounding an opponent meant dungeon time, at best.

The Eight Spirits as Gods Idea (mainly inspired by (The Twelve Kingdoms)

In the Pokeworld we know and love, many a tale is told of the Eight Spirits--god-like martial artists who wandered the world righting wrongs and triumphing over evil. But in a parallel Pokeworld, the Eight Spirits are literal gods, watching over, guiding, and protecting eight kingdoms aligned with the Spirits' elementals:

--Ruby Phoenix watched over the Fire Kingdom in the south, where their residents were renowned as smithies, tinkers, warriors, cooks, and creators. The flames of the Fire Kingdom were not those that ravaged and destroyed, but nurtured, protected, renewed, and inspired.

--Sapphire Dragon watched over the coastal Water Kingdom, where many sailed the seas to trade, share ideas and talents, and see the wide world. But water in its cold form of ice was also common in the kingdom's northern regions.

--Emerald Raikou watched over the verdant Earth Kingdom, where knowledge was valued, and warriors were expected to be as well versed in fine arts as much as martial arts. Harps were greatly valued in the Earth Kingdom, and to own one was a high honor.

--Golden Delphox watched over the glittering Light Kingdom, where almost every day was sunny--and when rain did fall, it was a gentle rain to help crops grow, and renew the land. But even in the darkest of times, the people of the Light Kingdom never lost hope the sun would shine again.

--Jade Beautifly watched over the flowery Wind Kingdom, where the people were renowned for the arts, explorations, and writing detailed accounts of their travels. Any traveler that came through the kingdom was welcomed with open arms, but if evil did threaten the kingdom, the people would fight with the fury of a summer storm.

--Pearl Deerling watched over the starry Moon Kingdom, where it was eternally nighttime. The starry skies in the kingdom led to many that studied and read the stars, as well as other divine pursuits.

--Amethyst Braviary watched over the Snow Kingdom high in the mountains. Even though the people of the Snow Kingdom were in a cold and snowy place, their Noble Spirit always kept a path clear for them to venture down into the valleys--and for intrepid travelers to venture into the mountains. No matter how cold the mountains get, the people's deep love and respect for themselves and others would ever keep them warm.

--Garnet Mightyena watched over the hills and cliffs of the Thunder Kingdom, where many traveled to the many mountains to train in the way of the warrior, or pay their respects to the Spirits at a temple or shrine. The people of the Thunder Kingdom could strike quicker than lightning if evil ever threatened, but were often the first to create and share new ideas, Even if their ideas didn't work on the first try, they would keep trying until something worked.

But there is also a ninth kingdom--the Rainbow Kingdom. Here, peoples from all the kingdoms lived, worked, and played together, in a shining beacon of unity, spirit, and hope.

Yet the Eight Spirits are not content to lounge in the heavenly realm, and only intercede when called. They actively walk among their people--and the people of the Elemental Kingdoms know well to treat all those who wander and the less fortunate well, They know that that poor person or wandering traveler could be one of the Noble Spirits!

The Eight Spirits are also aware that even though they did their best to create a piece of paradise in the mortal realm, that evil still lurks in the shadows--and they will always be there to defend the kingdoms and protect their people from evil.

What follows are the tales of the Eight Spirits, and their adventures through the Elemental Kingdoms...

The Eight Secret Arts (a thought experiment based on The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess)

In "The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess", Link can learn seven hidden skills on his quest. But what if we were to expand seven skills into eight martial arts, with multiple moves each?

The main character for such an idea would meet the eight Spirits by following an apparition of their spirit form (so if they met Golden Delphox, for example, they would follow a Delphox somewhere, which would then be revealed in human form once they reached the appointed place)

Like Twilight Princess, you couldn't learn the skills of each art out of order--you'd have to learn them in sequence.

Traveling for Secret Skills Idea (reworking an old idea based on the above)

In a fantastic ancient Pokeworld far from the one we know, many tales are told of the Eight Spirits--a band of martial artists so powerful, they were revered as gods. But what many do not know is that the Eight Spirits also took in apprentices of all ages and skill levels--this tale is about one of these apprentices.

Lost and alone on a stormy night, a girl named Riko was rescued by Emerald Raikou, after her parents' merchant caravan was ambushed by bandits, and her parents taken prisoner. Emerald Raikou brought Riko to the Verdant Jade Grove, and explained her plight to the other seven Spirits.

Riko was welcomed with open arms, and given the martial title Crystal Rainbow--or often just Cryst for short. She proved to be an energetic and dedicated student, but of all the weapons she was trained to use, Cryst chose a bow as her preferred weapon, in honor of Emerald Raikou rescuing her on that fateful rainy night long ago.

Before she left on a journey to rescue her parents, Emerald Raikou told Cryst that each of the Eight Spirits had left her a manual of their most powerful skills for her to find as she journeyed across Waku--and that these secret arts would be very helpful both on her journey and her ultimate goal of rescuing her parents.

What wonders and terrors await Cryst on her journey? Can she master her eight teachers' final gifts, rescue her parents, and become the martial heroine she was meant to be?

Journeying Through User Generated Content (inspired by the creative game Dreams)

The latest hot craze in Pokeworld gaming is the creative game Reverie--which invites players to create games, music, movies, art, and more--or browse through what other users have made. With a robust community uploading millions of new creations each day, every day is a new surprise, and you'll never know what you'll find next.

Lately, streamers have taken to using the Explore function, which provides the user with random creations to play with and view. With every creation a new surprise, part of the fun is watching streamers react to something amazing, terrible, or plain weird.

The group is one of the many creators in the Reverie, as well as Explorers (those who use the explore option often)--and they are pleasantly surprised when they find someone has used anything they created.

So on one rainy Friday night, the group got together to explore Reverie together, and the resulting stream was so popular, the group decided to host Reverie explorations twice a week during the week (Wednesday and Friday) and on weekends. During the summer, they stream Reverie explorations every day, in what Brock bills "The Summer of Reverie".

As the Summer of Reverie kicks off for this year, what will the group find as they explore what the Reverie community has made?

Questing Through Zillions of Zelda-likes (revisiting an old idea)

At the pivotal battle against Sada-bot in Area Zero, Koraidon's ancient energy from the final blow of Sada-bot sent Ash, Misty, and Brock into a fantasy world, where they were tasked with a quest to rescue Liko from the counterpart of Sada. But once the Trio completed this quest, were they taken into another fantasy world, and given another Zelda-esque quest to rescue a counterpart of Liko from a counterpart of Sada by collecting so many items--usually eight items, but some worlds would require more, and some would require a little less.

But the key to escape the endless loop of of questing is the Ancient Diamond--and that will require a Zelda-esque quest in itself!

Can the Trio complete the quest of all quests, find the Ancient Diamond, and find a way back to the modern day?

Ash. Misty, and Brock always have these items between worlds:

–a one handed sword (Ash)
–a pair of twinblades (Misty)
–a bow, and x30 arrows (Brock; the quiver can be upgraded over the quest to hold a hundred arrows)
–a map of the world
–a cracker bag with 20 crackers inside (for breaking open weak walls and floors–this can be upgraded over the quest to hold a hundred crackers. Some monsters are vulnerable to a cracker’s explosion)
–a magic whistle (Ash)
–a magic fiddle (Misty)
–a magic lute (Brock)
–a Berry bag with a hundred Berries inside (can be upgraded to hold 500 or 1000 Berries, depending on the world)

A Zelda-esque Dungeon Name Generator (something I made to help the community)

Writing a Zelda fic (or something Zelda inspired) and need a dungeon name that sounds like it could come from Zelda?

I've made a very basic dungeon name generator (which you can access here)

Basically, I went through all the Zelda games where the dungeons had unique names, and compiled common name elements into lists of data, so when you hit the button, you'll get a name that would sound right at home in A Link to the Past/A Link Between Worlds, Ocarina of Time/Majora's Mask, Twilight Princess, or the Oracle games.

Some examples of what you might get:

Cold Leopard's Mines
Heavenly Darknut's Ruins
Fox's Domain
Moblin's Tower
Grieving Mantis's Maze

Of course, it's still a work in progress, so if you have any suggestions for words I could include in names, or find that something's not working, let me know!
