I Found My Very First Gen 9 Shiny! (an update on how my Z/A adventure is going)

So I'm looking for a Meditite to evolve to Medicham to complete a sidequest, and as I'm taking a shortcut to Wild Area 6 through Wild Area 3, I hear a weird noise around where Pikachu is.

When I get closer, I noticed that one of the chus was Shiny!

Naturally, I got him--his name is Tintri, my imagined name for the Pikachu we know and love.

Touring Magic Act Idea (another possible traveling story through a re-imagined full Kalos)

Ash and Serena started their magic act Fenice Rossa (red phoenix) and La Goupeline (the lady Delphox) as what was meant to be a one off for a community talent show back home in Pallet Town. However, their act proved such a hit, they decided to continue performing both on the stage as their personas, and on the street in their normal clothes. But once they take the stage, they take common parlor tricks to the next level, and create their own colorful illusions. Onstage, they don't talk, but let music, and their skill do the talking. While they are on the street, they will talk to guide the audience through their trick. They will tailor street tricks to what is on hand or what is available, but onstage, their tricks go beyond pulling Bunearies out of a hat (evolving the trick to pulling a Pikachu out of the hat, then conjuring balloons to have the Pikachu fly)

On the street, their signature trick is colorizing the Pikachu image on a 100 credit coin without any art supplies. They will sometimes build on the trick by rapidly "evolving" the 100 credit coin all the way to the largest publicly available note. But their rules of magic are simple--only perform a trick with the audience's consent, and don't do anything that would cause lasting harm.

They are immediately recognizable in their costumes as the traditional magician and assistant. But Serena is more than the pretty face to get sawed in half or levitated--she is just as much involved in the tricks as Ash is--and this teamwork leaves a lasting impression on audiences, whether on the stage or the street.

So when an opportunity arises for the two of them to come perform in Kalos--the birthplace of stage magic--they quickly agree, eager to show off their tricks to both old friends and new. But little do they know that a foe they thought they defeated twelve years ago at the height of the Kalos League somehow survived their final stand.

While Serena was initially worried when she learned from friends in Lumiose that Lysandre still lived, Ash's courage and resolve calmed her--"If we beat him once before, we can do it again--since we've grown stronger since then, too."

The two of them went on ahead with their planned magic show, while also training the true magic of light in their hearts for the inevitable rematch with an old foe--and preventing Team Flare from being reborn.

The Phoenix's Signature Song (a sneak peek of upcoming story "The Three Guardians Among Lilies")

(the song's basic tune)

Red lightsticks lit up the Lumiere Theatre as the backing band played the intro to Ash's signature song, the Song of Hope. Let us take the time to grieve, let the tears begin to fall,
Down upon the earth like rain, until it becomes the sea...
Ash sang as he walked across the stage, stopping near where Urbaine, Harmonie, and Naveen were seated.

He then looked out at the rest of the huge crowd. One day we will look back, and reflect upon this day.
We'll remember that we loved, then we'll let that love run free!

Let our love shine on, through the mist of many years,
Deep inside my heart, is the hope that's roamed everywhere!

He then looked out at the sea of silver, red, blue, and green lightsticks in the theater. When you're in despair, and the rain falls,
I will sing, and summon forth the sun!
As if on cue, the "rain" lighting effect on the stage dissipated, and the set's "sky" became a colorful sunrise!

I will sing of dreams, and what could be
I'll be right here by your side,
Singing a song of hope...

He then started the second verse. On those nights without a moon, and you're waiting all alone,
You can come and stay with me, I won't even ask you why.

Beautifly, awake! It's the miracle of life!
The circle of life, it goes on...and it will endure!

When the sun rises, and lights the world,
That is when all our dreams come true!
I'll be by your side, protecting you
I will sing a song for you,
A song to touch your heart!

A smile formed on Harmonie's face as Ash started the song's bridge. Now if my voice should reach you, and my song should touch your heart,
I hope it heals all of your grief and pain.
Then if you hear Him calling you to go and do the same,
Go forth, and heal the world through your song!

Ash looked out on the audience again, and unleashed the final two choruses. When you're in despair, and the rain falls,
I will sing, and summon forth the sun!
I will sing of dreams, and what could be
I'll be right here by your side,
Singing a song of hope, ah...

When the sun rises, and lights the world,
That is when all our dreams come true!
I'll be by your side, protecting you
I will sing a song for you,
A song to touch your heart!

The crowd roared and lightsticks waved as Ash took a bow, then the lights went down for the next song of the concert...

Once I reached the SBC arc in Legends: Z/A, I had to write a drabble showing the Trio and Harmonie (nee Moni) knocking Jacinthe and her minions down a peg with the power of rock n' roll...

Blasting Away the Brat (a preview of an upcoming story)

(The basic tune of what the Trio and Moni perform)

Moni balked at the pinkish-purple aura surrounding the plaza near the hotel. "Don't tell me..."

"I'm not letting you go anywhere until I see the power of the Phoenix, Dragon, and Raikou for myself..." Jacinthe explained as she, some SBC members, and Lebanne met Ash, Misty, Brock, and the rest of Team MZ.

There was a moment of silence before Brock motioned for Moni to come closer. "We'll let her see our sacred power, all right--just not as the dancing bunraku puppets she wants."

With that, he snapped, summoning his standard performance coord, Emerald Forest, onto him. "You too, Lida..." Misty smiled, snapping her performance coord, Sapphire Waters, on her, and snapping Lida's backup dancer outfit onto her.

"Come on, Moni..." Ash snapped his performance coord Ruby Fire onto him, then a yellow-green pantsuit that evoked Zygarde onto Moni, complete with a matching fedora. "Now you can help us show Jacinthe that we're not going to bow before her."

"I know exactly what song we should perform..." Moni smiled.

With that, she kicked off a familiar song. Get out on the floor! It's time to move your feet!
Let the rhythm move you, wave your hands in the air!

So let us all forget our troubles and our cares!
the Trio joined in.
And let the music play, play it all night long...

A growing crowd roared and danced along to the beat, their lightsticks and the lights on the boys' costumes lighting up the makeshift arena. Aha! Gotcha! I see that saddened face
Your broken heart, giving up on the world!
Why do you quit, when you just didn't try?
But you only sigh, and the tears begin to fall!
Ash sang, triggering an appeal that looked like a wave of flames. The divine flames burned away Lebanne's maid outfit and long hair, revealing her as the warrior she really was.

If you look without a plan,
What kind of answer will you find?
Moni sang.
It's before you, if you only see...

A blast of rainbow light exploded into the area on the verse's last note, making the crowd dance even more and Jacinthe gasp in horror as the new quartet sang the song's chorus:

Get out on the floor! It's time to move your feet!
Let the rhythm move you, wave your hands in the air!
So let us all forget our troubles and our cares!
And let the music play, play it all night long...

If you look around, there's so much you can see!
There's a world to explore, so where do you begin?
Lift up your voice and sing, the satisfaction's there
Trust me, it brings you joy, hope, and happiness!...

Post Main Story Review of Pokemon Legends Z/A (some quick thoughts now that I've finished the main story)

+The Good:

--A wide variety of side quests that made Lumiose feel more alive
--Some of my questions about XY have been answered (and I'm told the DLC ties together RSE and DP too)
--It was sweet to allow AZ to finally find peace and join Arceus in heaven after all he'd been through--now the ending of XY makes sense.
--I love the camaraderie that Team MZ has together, and the bond they form as the story progresses.
--The ending where Zygarde delivers the final blow was worth the bad final boss fight

-The Not-so-Good:

--I didn't like that you, the player, could also be hit and KOed--I had to try some bosses multiple times because I was KOed.
--Joy-Con drift made many puzzles much harder than they needed to be
--I wanted the other members of Team MZ to be more helpful in boss fights
--Some of the boss fights were HARD.
--The final boss was far too easy--like a Mario fight turned up to 11.
--The last part of the story made no sense
--Where are/were Calem and Serena? I wanted to see more of the XY cast, and what they've been doing since XY, even if only in a passing reference.
--Why stop with just Lumiose? It was hard just to even GET to a few objectives because the city looked very same-y, and I wasn't sure where I was supposed to be going.
--I didn't like my team building choices limited to who could Mega Evolve.

Some of the boss fights were HARD.
Maybe because I spent too much time exploring, catching Pokémon, doing side quests, and not progressing the story so I ended up with a rotating team of 18 different Pokémon during the main story and got overleveled more often than not but I feel the boss fights just... aren't hard at all. It's based on what Pokémon you bring to them.
I didn't like my team building choices limited to who could Mega Evolve.
I'm not sure about that. While all but 2 of my main story team could Mega Evolve, I didn't really feel like I was playing at a disadvantage when I used a Mega-less Pokémon.

What an Irish Gaelic dub of Pokemon Could Have Looked Like, part 4 (a thought experiment)

Episode 3 title: "Casann Séan ar chara" (Ash meets a friend)

While this sounds simple compared to the English title, I felt this title would make sense considering Caterpie's bond with Pikachu, and his heroic stand against Team Rocket in the episode.

Episode 4 title: "Seán agus an gaiscíoch mór!" (Ash and the great warrior!)

The samurai in an imagined Irish Gaelic dub would be changed to a traditional Irish warrior--the basic plot of the episode would still work, though.

Episode 5 title: "Liam, coimeádaí na Cathrach Airgid" (Brock, the guardian of Pewter City)

Irish Ash (Sean) would be a little more aware of the type chart during battle scenes. The title refers to Brock's personality as a protective person, which his Irish name (Liam) refers to.

Episode 6 title: "Finscéal Chnoc na Gealaí" (The Legend of Moonlight Mountain)

Mt. Moon's Gaelic name would translate to Moonlight Mountain. The Moon Stone would keep its English name. Seymour's Irish name would be Firin, a male form of the Irish girl name Firinne, which means "truth", which is what he is seeking.

Episode 7 title: "Trí bhláth na Cathrach Gorma" (The three flowers of Cerulean City)

Cerulean City's Gaelic name would be Cathrach Gorma (Blue City).

Lily, Violet, and Daisy would get Irish forms of their English names--Lile, Corcra, and Lúbán.

My 30th Anniversary Pokememory (in honor of Pokemon's 30th anniversary this year)

The Time: Fall/Winter 1998

The Place: My house

I had just received my newest issue of Disney Adventures (may it rest in peace) in the mail. The ad on the very last page depicts a bunch of weird creatures about to be caught in a giant net. One of the creatures stands out to me--a mouse-like creature with a thunderbolt tail. I keep the little guy in mind as I put the finished magazine on the shelf with all my other back issues.

The next day, at school, I ask one of my friends at the time what was this "Pokémon" thing taking the school (a middle school, mind you) by storm. He then shows me a figurine of the mouse creature, and tells me its name is "Pikachu".

I see the famous bus commercial (you know the one) on TV later that afternoon, and that was it--I ended up getting Blue the weekend Red and Blue arrived in the USA.

The rest, as they say, is history.

Traveling Minstrel Story Idea (inspired by Sylveon's Shield Pokedex entry and Legend of Heroes V: Cagesong of the Ocean)

The fantasy Pokeworld of Galaria--which will eventually become modern day Galar. A legend is told of a minstrel's epic ballad that told of a powerful Sylveon known as the Diamond Princess, and her journey to defeat Eternatus. While many Galarians believe the ballad to be a fairy tale, one band of minstrels that have learned to channel their song into magic believe that the ballad could have at least been inspired by history, if not true.

For Ash and Serena of Whitecrest, Misty of Keelford--which will eventually become modern day Hulbury--and Brock of Ladera--which will eventually become modern day Stow-on-Side--the Ballad of the Diamond Princess becomes the key to answer a burning question every Galarian wants to know--is the tale of the Diamond Princess true? If so, could she ever be awakened again should Eternatus return?

So these four best friends gathered their instruments--Ash with his collection of flutes, Misty with her fiddle, Brock with his lute, and Serena with her mandolin--and set off on a journey that was part concert tour, part quest, and part lore gathering expedition to find the truth of the ballad's veracity.

Little do they know, the Ballad of the Diamond Princess is truer than they think!

Looking Ahead to Pokemon Day (my predictions for Friday)

--We're probably going to see Gen 10 for sure, with it being the 30th anniversary. But will it be at all like what the leaks suggest?
--An expanded Pokemon Conquest with a bigger story, and a Fairy Kingdom
--a Pokemon Legends: Kanto that explains the origin of Team Rocket (although if you believe the leaks, Galar is next for the Legends treatment--does that mean we'll see a Poke-Robin Hood character?)

Looking Ahead to Gen 10 (some thoughts on the new gen)

--What is the name of the new region? Where is it based on?
--What are Hero and Heroine's names?
--What will the mascots look like? Winds logo has a more rainbow-y look to it
--I like how Hero's and Heroine's outfits change depending on what game you get--Wind look reminds me of cowboys/cowgirls, and Wave look is a traditional trainer look
--What role will the new Pikachu pair play in the games?
--They learned from SV--this new region feels much more alive than Paldea.
--Pombon is my choice of starter for this new adventure

I do like the protagonist designs and WOW the game looks amazing. They must be using that Switch 2 power well.

I'm on team Browt

My gut instinct is that the region is based on an Oceania country, but that's definitely influenced by me liking the Australia region theory that was floating around right after Scarlet and Violet came out. The Wind hats do look a bit Crocodile Dundee, though...hmmm...

I also like the protagonist designs quite a bit! Both genders' outfits look equally cool and adventure-ready, which I appreciate (Dawn running around the demonstrably cold climate of Sinnoh in a sleeveless, short-skirted dress still bothers me, haha.) For the protagonist names, I guess they could straight-up name them Waverly and Wendy, but that seems unlikely (albeit hilarious if it does happen) given they already named the Pikachu pair after the versions. For now, I think I'm going to call them Wade (M) and Wren (F)...it matches the alliteration of the game titles and echoes the "water and air" idea without being super blatant. We'll see if I get even a fraction as close as I did for my Z-A protagonist name guesses, haha.

Gecqua had me quite literally from the moment I saw it. I love lizards! I've seen lots of comparisons to Sobble, but geckos and chameleons are quite different in real life, so I'm optimistic about the line standing out when all is said and done.

@Viridian Beedrill

Hayate (boy) and Umi (girl) make perfect Japanese names--Hayate can mean "swift wind", and Umi means "sea"

Australia does sound plausible, but Indonesia and the Maldives are the two leading theories.

If we do go the Indonesia route, the big city will be inspired by Jakarta.

How will battles underwater work (assuming we will be going underwater)? Back in Gen 3 (and Gen 6 Hoenn), they didn't need to worry about that because of the screen transitions, but since all battles happen in the overworld, what will they do? Of battles at the surface, I imagine that it would be similar to how the past games do it, where Pokémon that don't swim have a platform to stand on.
