Intro
I have been playing through Pokemon Y to prepare for the release of Legends Z-A and journaling my playthrough as I go! I thought I would share my journal entries here, as well as how my journal is set up. I will probably update in batches as I go :^)

Journal Setup
I have three sections in my Pokemon Y playthrough journal. First I have the encounter tables - I am doing a catch challenge, where I catch every new encounter before progressing to the next route. This helps me keep track of what needs to be caught every time I enter a new area.
Encounter table 3.jpg
Then I have the pokedex entries. After I add a new pokemon to the pokedex, I add it here as well. I never pay attention to these, even when I am doing playthroughs where I actively fill in the pokedex. This is a way for me to appreciate that part of the game!
Pokedex 1.jpg
Finally, the journal entries. I am picking out important moments in the game, as well as lore details to prepare for Legends Z-A! I have really enjoyed drawing my team members and other memorable parts of Kalos. I started out leaving these as what I accomplished in one real-world day, but started combining days to what would feel like an in-game day's progress.

Day 1
Moved in with Mom to our new place in Vaniville Town. I quickly met our new neighbors Calem and Shauna, who took me to Aquacorde Town. There I met Trevor and Tierno. The group nicknamed me "S.". I got my starter, fennekin, and named him Stranger. He has a modest nature. Together we won our first battle against Shauna and her chespin. We picked up some pokeballs and Mom sent us on our journey with a town map. Mom's rhyhorn said goodbye as we left. We passed through Aquacorde Town and saw the 'water and civilization in harmony.'
Full 1.jpg
When we made it to Route 2 (Avance Trail), Calem showed us how to catch pokemon. His parents are professional trainers. On Route 2, we caught the new encounters and then entered Santalune Forest. Shauna helped us catch the new encounters there. We caught our new team member - Pride, the panpour. He has a naughty nature.

Day 2
We traveled to Route 3 and caught the new encounters there. We also took some time to play games and snack on some Poke Puffs.

Day 3
We made it to Santalune City - 'a traditional city.' We explored and fought a trainer who gave me some roller skates.

Day 4
Went to Route 22 and caught all the encounters there. Bonded some more in Pokémon Amie.

Day 5
We fought all the trainers on Routes 3 and 22 to prepare for the gym battle. Then we made our way through the gym - full of spider webs. We beat Viola without issue and she rewarded us with the Bug Badge.
Viola is a photographer. Her photography is displayed in her gym. It showcases her love of bug pokemon.
Viola's team: surskit, vivillon - meadow form.
Full 2.jpg

Day 6
We made our way to Route 4, but first Alexa, Viola's older sister, stopped us at the gate. She gave us the experience share. Alexa works as a journalist, I bet Viola contributes to her journal articles with her photography.
On Route 4, or Parterre Way, we started by catching all the new encounters. We found red, orange, yellow, and white flabébé forms in the flowers here.
We finished up Route 4 by battling all the trainers in the area. Stranger and Pride are getting stronger and working well as a team.
The Kalos region is covered in flowers.

Day 7
At the end of Route 4, we met the two assistants to Professor Sycamore, Dexio and Sina. They showed me the way to Professor Sycamore's lab in Lumiose City.
Professor Sycamore studied pokemon with Professor Rowan in the Sinnoh region when he was young. He now continues to study evolution in his own lab.
We battled Professor Sycamore - he had the three Kanto starters. Afterwards, he gave us one starter of our choice. We chose bulbasaur.
On our way out we met Lysandre, the head of Lysandre Labs. He invented the holo caster. Lysandre and Professor Sycamore seem to know each other.
Full 3.jpg

Day 8
Calem invited us to a cafe in Lumiose City. While there, we once again encounter Lysandre. He was speaking to Diantha, the famous movie star, and trying to convince her she should stay young and beautiful forever. It seems Lysandre is trying to make the world more beautiful, and thinks I may be one of the 'chosen ones' who can achieve this.
We explored what we could of Lumiose City, but most of it was blocked from a power outage.
We then headed to Route 5 - Versant Road and met Korrina. She is the Shalour City gym leader. Her lucario like our 'aura.'
We caught a few encounters and Stranger evolved into a braixen.

Day 9
We continued to explore Route 5, which has a skate park and several grind rails for skating. We battled all the trainers on Route 5, including Tierno. He has trouble focusing on pokemon battles because he was born to dance and will never stop. Trevor, however, dreams of completing the pokedex.
We caught all the new encounters and then made it to Camphrier Town - 'a town where you can taste the ages.' We found the name rater in the pokemon center here. Other notable people here include Cassius, who runs the PC system, and a woman in the hotel who gives the shock ribbon on Tuesdays.

Thank you so much! I have loved creating it :^)
I’m totally copying you for my Emerald playthrough!! I’m going to get a journal and do something similar, this looks like SUCH a fun way to keep track of progress!! ;w;
Please do! I would love to see more people do this - I have looked all over the internet and there isn't enough pokemon journaling out there!

Yay! Welcome to BulbaBlogs! :yay:
I'm so excited to see how this progresses!
Your drawings are so cute and your handwriting is so neat and easy to read, this is such a phenomenal little project!! :>
You've inspired me to do something similar to this for when I eventually play Pokémon White 2...!

Thank you I really appreciate it!
You've inspired me to do something similar to this for when I eventually play Pokémon White 2...!
I hope you do!!! I am waiting

Days 10-16
Day 10
A little background - My husband is playing through Omega Ruby, so I had him trade me a surprise member for my team. He chose a whismur named Shriek!

We backtracked to Lumiose City because I heard a rumor that you can buy evolution stones on Vernal Avenue. I picked up a water stone for Pride.
While there, I traded pokemon with my friend from the Hoenn region. She traded me a whismur named Shriek. She has a bashful nature.
We returned to Camphrier Town and spent the evening playing games and eating poke puffs.

Day 11
We stopped by Shabboneau Castle before heading to Route 7, but apparently the castle's treasure is missing.
On Route 7, Riviere Walk, we encountered a field of berries. The man in charge of them can no longer work and asked me to take over. We immediately got to work planting the berries we had collected so far.
After collecting our first crop, a scientist approached us, hoping to study berry mutations. I will be sure to save our findings here as well.
We had to fight a few bug pokemon to protect our berries - one of which was a volbeat we caught for the pokedex.
Full 5.jpg

Day 12
We traveled through Route 6 to Parfum Palace, where Shauna was waiting to look for a pokeflute. Upon entering, we saw the owner looking for his furfrou and decided to help him.
The gardens of Parfum Palace have statues of Reshiram and Zekrom. Apparently, Kalos and Unova were in contact with each other. There is also a statue of a knight with three pokemon - golem, palpitoad, and eevee. How does this knight play a part in the history of Kalos?
Shauna and I found the missing furfrou and were rewarded with a fireworks show we watched from the balcony.
The owner of Parfum Palace gave us the pokeflute. He had the flute because he took it as payment for a loan. Originally, the flute was Shabboneau Castle's treasure.
When we left the gate attendant expressed his doubt that the entry fee is used for maintaining the palace. The owner of Parfum Palace does not seem like a good guy. At least we got what we needed.
Full 6.jpg
Full 7.jpg

Day 13

We caught the new encounters on Route 6, including the pokemon that hide in the bushes along the walking path. We also fought all the trainers in the area - and Shriek evolved into a loudred.
Back on Route 7, we used the pokeflute to wake up snorlax. We caught him for the pokedex. The owner of Parfum Palace promptly took back his pokeflute.

Day 14
Onto Route 7 proper - we ran into Trevor and Tierno at the pokemon daycare. I left a couple of pokemon there for safe keeping.
Trevor showed me the Battle Chateau, where trainers battle to join the nobility. Viola and Hennessy gave me a tour and bestowed me with the 'Baroness' title.
We cleared out the trainers there and ranked up to the 'Viscountess' title. The trainers in the Chateau change every day.
We started catching the new Route 7 encounters and found a new team member - Vanilla. He is a ducklett with a naive nature.
Full 8.jpg

Day 15

We finished catching the new encounters for Route 7 and battled all the trainers as well. This included Calem, who challenged us to a battle. Vanilla got his debut battle and did a great job.
We passed through Connecting Cave and caught the new encounters there.
On Route 8 (Muraille Coast) we quickly caught all the new encounters but one - zangoose. They can only be found in hordes with seviper, who attack zangoose mercilessly. We had to travel to Route 9 and catch a sandile with intimidate + sand tomb to weaken and defeat the seviper. After several tries, we managed to save a zangoose just in time to catch him.
Full 9.jpg

Day 16
We started the day by exploring Route 9, Spikes Passage, with the help of a rhyhorn. Riding on the rhyhorn reminded me of my mom and her retired rhyhorn back at home.
We beat the trainers on Route 9 and the few encounters there. From there we went to Glittering Cave, which has a winding path that leads to a mine. When we entered the mine, Team Flare confronted us. With the help of Calem, we beat all the grunts in the area and rescued the Fossil Lab assistant. He let us take home the pokemon fossils - I chose the sail fossil.
We returned to Ambrette Town and I revived the fossil - obtaining the pokemon amaura.

Love the rumination on the environmental details of Parfum Palace!!! And that illustration page of the gates is stunning!!

Love the rumination on the environmental details of Parfum Palace!!! And that illustration page of the gates is stunning!!
I love slowing down to appreciate the details! The gates of Parfum Palace are so pretty.

So, question: What do you consider a day? Like, do you play for a certain amount of time and have that be a day?
It's just whatever feels like an in-game day to me. Just vibes, pretty much!

All the pages you've shared are truly wonderful, but I simply have to highlight Day 12! I love interact-able details like that, it really makes the journal pop and spring into life. The drawings are wonderful as always! :enzap:
I can really imagine your character sitting down after a long day to write all of this down with her Pokémon curiously looking at everything she's writing. :bulbaLove:

Thank you, that's so kind! That's how I imagine it too :bulbaLove:

Days 17-22
Day 17
Today we fully explored Ambrette Town - 'where amber dust dances.' At Hotel Ambrette, Vanilla got the alert ribbon, which is given every Monday. The aquarium has some beautiful tanks full of water pokemon. A fisherman at the aquarium gave me an old rod. I went ahead and caught the Ambrette encounter (luvdisc), as well as the rock smash exclusives.
We then did some back-tracking to get another old rod encounter - a magikarp on Route 22.
Then we traveled through the lower part of Route 8 and fought the trainers there. The experience was good for the team as we make our way to the next gym in Cyllage City.

Day 18
We explored Cyllage City - 'a city of peaceful strolls.' There is a winding bike path through the city, and after being gifted a bike from the bike shop, we took a few laps. There were a lot of interesting people in Cyllage City. A man in the pokemon center sings this song about the Kalos War.
"So many lives were lost - both man and 'mon.
It seemed a night that ne'er would bring dawn.
No beauty, no joy in those days of yore.
Only the pain of parting was in store.
For victims of the ancient Kalos War."
A woman in the house by the pokemon center gives pokemon massages once per day. In the pokemon center, you can trade a luvdisc for a Steelix named Thumper - so cute!
Full 11.jpg

Day 18 Continued
A man in the hotel told us about Professor Rowan's research into evolution, and how pokemon release a new kind of energy when they evolve.
We made our way to the Cyllage City gym. There are massive rock climbing walls to traverse to get to the gym leader. Grant sits on top of the climbing walls and a waterfall reflects a rainbow behind him. I think this is my favorite gym in Kalos.
Our team defeated Grant and we obtained the Cliff Badge.
Full 12.jpg

Day 19
We started the day by catching the Route 10 (Menhir Trail) encounters. When we battled the trainers, we once again encountered Team Flare. It seems they are interested in Geosenge Town.
Pride evolved into a simipour with the water stone we got in Lumiose City.
The rocks on Route 10 are from an event 3000 years ago. We learned more about them in Geosenge Town - 'quiet stones speak volumes.' The stones are said to emit a mysterious power - some people think they mark the burial site of warriors from ancient times.
On Route 11, Mirior Way, Sycamore called us and told us Shalour City has a mega evolution guru. We caught the new encounters on Route 11, which included a new team member - Garden the lonely dedenne. He is so adorable.

Day 20
We passed through Reflection Cave and arrived at Shalour City - 'a city of awakening.' Tierno gave me an intriguing stone on the way to the Tower of Mastery.
There we met the evolution guru - Korrina's grandfather, Gurkinn. The whole friend group was there, and we had to decide who would take the mega ring. We battled Calem for it and won - but Korrina still thought we had to prove ourselves.
We went to the Shalour City gym - a huge skate park with roller skating trainers. We beat Korrina's fighting pokemon and received the Rumble Badge.
Full 13.jpg

Day 21
We went back to the Tower of Mastery -'the tower of further awakening.' We learned more about the tower on our way to the top. Long ago, a trainer came to this land accompanied by a lucario. They found two stones - which led to the first mega evolution. Gurkinn and Korrina are descended from this trainer.
Professor Sycamore trained at the tower in hopes of learning about mega evolution. He left after deciding he doesn't have what it takes.
On top of the tower, Korrina gave us a mega ring, and her lucario joined our team to demonstrate the power of mega evolution.

Day 22
We made our way to Route 12, Fourrage Road, where we were given a lapras. From there, we went to Baa de Mer Ranch and rode a skiddo around the rest of Route 12. North of Route 12 is Azure Bay, which has a handful of trainers and items. After clearing the trainers and catching new encounters, we explored Coumarine City -'the city where bay and butte are bound.'
Coumarine City has two parts. The first you encounter is the bay. You have to take the monorail to the other side of the city. In the monorail station, we encountered Professor Sycamore and Diantha. Sycamore told us about his theory that a strong bond with your pokemon is required to master mega evolution.

i finally got around to perusing this after being so excited to see it in your introduction thread a while back! i've never thought about physically journaling a pokemon playthrough this way but i'm seriously tempted seeing after seeing your journal pages. all the doodles are seriously adorable and i love that you also write down pokedex entries - do you think you'll take more pictures of that when you're closer to completion? i also do a lot of catch-em-all challenges but i find myself spamming A through the dex entry text these days and this seems like such a good way to actually engage with the dex again. seeing those pages filled out in real life must be really satisfying after a while.

also, thanks for writing out the journal entries as actual text too! though your handwriting is lovely :bulbaLove:

i haven't fully backread everything that's happened so far in your playthrough but i've gotten through some of the initial posts and i love that your husband traded you a whismur for your team. i love using pokemon traded to me by friends/loved ones and i always love seeing other people do that. i hope he knows "Shriek" is an incredible nickname for a whismur lol

and bugfacts already said it but wow i love all of your doodles but that art of the palace gates... REALLY beautiful in particular. like it really stands out to me. kudos!

Aww thank you so much! I will include more pictures of my dex completion! I hope this thread inspires others to do pokemon journals because I would love see them :^)

I didnt even notice those gates until this playthrough... that's why a journal like this is so great!

Days 23-28
Day 23
On our way to the Coumarine City gym, we learned about the legendary pokemon of the Kalos region. It is said that the pokemon is in a deep sleep, that's why there aren't many stories about it.
In front of the gym, Calem challenged us to a battle. After beating him, we navigated the vine-covered jungle that is the Coumarine City gym. We beat Ramos's grass pokemon and received our fourth gym badge - the plant badge.
Vanilla the ducklett carried the team for much of this battle - he is small but mighty!

Day 24
Now that we have a good rod, surf, and fly, I decided we should go back to routes that have new encounters we can access.
We also took the chance to fully explore routes with surf - battling trainers swimming in the water and finding items with the item finder.
Finally, we did some chain fishing in Shalour City. I love both the good rod encounters there - remoraid and chinchou. After 69 fishing encounters in our chain, we caught a new team member - Inkwell the shiny remoraid. He has a mild nature and the sniper ability.
Full 15.jpg

Day 25
On our way out of Coumarine City, we got a call from Lysandre. He rambled on & on about our ability to mega evolve, the potential it gives us, and his ideas of beauty. It was pretty strange - he seems to be getting more obsessive with each interaction.
At the Route 13 gate, Sycamore's assistants upgraded our pokedex to include mountain pokemon. On Route 13, the Lumiose Badlands, we caught the pokemon in dust clouds and via rock smash. We found the entrance to the power plant - guarded by a Team Flare grunt. After beating him and finding his key card, we entered the power plant.
The power plant was taken over by Team Flare. We beat all the grunts present, and found out the leader of the takeover was Aliana - one of Team Flare's head scientists. During the battle Vanilla evolved into a Swanna!
As we left Route 13 to head to Lumiose city, we encountered a giant man muttering about a flower given eternal life. There were a lot of strange people we encountered today.
Full 16.jpg

Day 26
In Lumiose City, we went straight to Prism Tower, where Clemont fixed the tower's lights thanks to our help at the power plant. Inside the tower is the Lumisoe City gym, with quizzes on pokemon silhouettes as you ascend the tower. At the top awaits Clemont, an inventor with a team of electric pokemon. Stranger defeated several of his team members and evolved into a delphox!
Clemont's team: emolga, magneton, heliolisk
Full 17.jpg

Day 27
After our gym battle success, Professor Sycamore invited us to the Lysandre Cafe. There we saw Sycamore and Lysandre discussing mega evolution. Lysandre told us he is descended from royal ancestry. The king of Kalos sought to take everything for his own, creating a terrible weapon that caused massive destruction. Lysandre defended the use of the ultimate weapon, saying 'it washed clean that era's filth.'
Sycamore claims Lysandre is a good man, but I think he is blinded by their long-time friendship.

Day 28
Now that all of Lumiose City is accessible, we took some time to explore. We found Trevor's house, where his sister told us he travels the region with his pokedex in hopes of being like his parents, who left Trevor and his sister behind to travel the world with their pokemon.
We then went to Route 14, Laverre Nature Trail, where we saw the entire friend group waiting for us. We battled Calem again and Inkwell evolved into an octillery after learning ice beam at level 34. Then, we all went to a nearby haunted house, but nothing scary was there.
Full 18.jpg

SHINY REMORAID!! THAT'S SICK!! i love your drawing of him (he looks so happy to be there) and i love his name :bulbaCute: i assume you held off his evolution to get ice beam 6 levels earlier, and perhaps to just look at remoraid a little longer because it evolves so early? that's cool. in general i love your team, it's such an eclectic choice of pokemon (particularly with Shriek from ORAS lol) which i always love to see. i literally don't think i've ever seen someone use the combo of swanna, (eventual) exploud, and shiny octillery on the same team before, especially in XY. i suppose you're going to be passing on mega evolution for your playthrough team? i did the same when i played X last :bulbaLol: and in speaking of my recent X playthrough from last year, i found it very hard to keep track of the team flare admins and now i wish i had kept a journal like this because i think explicitly naming Aliana and drawing her like that would have been very helpful in that regard LOL. i love how the positioning of the drawings on those pages make it look like vanilla is screaming at her.

Ice beam is exactly why I held off! It is nice seeing purple remoraid shine for a little while too though :bulbaLove:

I will be switching out my simipour once I get to a pokemon with a mega I want to use... I have grown attached though :hmm: I'm sure I will still switch him in here and there to avoid over leveling, at least.

I've been really trying to pay attention to all the characters in this playthrough, especially after seeing that Mable is in Legends Z-A. I wonder who else we will see from X&Y!

Days 29-33
Day 29
We explored Laverre City - ‘the city of otherworldly dreams.’ We went to the Laverre City gym, which is structured like a dollhouse which has many rooms to navigate, full of trainers in beautiful outfits. We beat Valerie’s team of fairy pokemon - having a little difficulty taking out her sylveon.
Valerie’s team: mawile, mr. mime, sylveon
We heard another verse to the song about the Kalos war in the pokemon center:
Man’s grief brought the end, the land did tear,
Wartime finished in a lightning flare.
‘Mon’s rage brought the end, a furious roar.
Lightning crackled forth to end the war –
Kalos’s long pain was then no more.
Full 19.jpg

Day 30
Trevor and Shauna directed me to head north of Laverre City to visit the Poke Ball Factory. There we found a Team Flare grunt blocking the entrance. Shauna distracted the grunt, allowing us to head inside and investigate.
We navigated the conveyor belts and fought the Team Flare grunts on the way to the leaders of the takeover - admins Celosia and Bryony. After defeating the admins with Calem, the owner of the Poke Ball Factory gave us each a Master Ball and a nugget.

Day 31
We left Laverre City to explore Route 15, or Brun Way. We started by fighting the trainers there - and Shriek evolved into an exploud! She is so big now.
A backpacker told us about his encounter with Professor Sycamore in a cafe. Sycamore told him a story about a fairy type pokemon that saved the life of a king long ago.
Lysandre called us on the Holo Caster to once again share his insights. He continually refers to me as a ‘chosen one.’ He insinuates that those who have the potential for great power are considered ‘chosen.’ What does he think a chosen one should do with this power?
Full 20.jpg

Day 32
We finished catching the Route 15 encounters and then explored the Lost Hotel - which is hidden underground. We caught the pokemon there - including those that appear in the trash cans.
When we got to Dendemille Town, we ran into Professor Sycamore. He told us about the legendary pokemon of Kalos, Yveltal. This pokemon absorbs energy, overwhelming people with its power. After its 1000 year lifespan, it seals all the spirits around it and goes to sleep in a secret place.
Dendemille Town’s motto is ‘a town where fluff dances on the wind,’ referencing the huge windmill and snowy weather. The move deleter and move reminder can be found in a house here.
Full 21.jpg
The windmill I made for Dendemille Town actually spins! I really like how it turned out :bulbaLove:
Day 32 2.gif

Day 33
North of Dendemille Town we explored the icy cave of Frost Cavern. There we found a mamoswine frightened about something in the cave. Trevor and I decided to investigate.
At the end of Frost Cavern we found the source of the trouble was once again Team Flare. This time, Mable was the leader of the scheme. Team Flare was using their previously stolen poke balls to catch a powerful abomasnow.
After defeating Team Flare, the abomasnow gave me an abomasite. We navigated out of the cavern, battling the remaining trainers and catching the new encounters.
Full 22.jpg

Next time I update I will be showing my pokedex progress as well as some special pages I've made to go along with some of the game mechanics!
