No, it's not the brainchild of a demented fanfic author, it's an actual TV special movie to be screened in Japan later this year, with the script being written as a joint collaboration between series original creators Monkey Punch (Lupin the 3rd) and Gosho Aoyama (Detective Conan).

Looking forward to seeing this one. =)

Oh, wow. This should be positively awesome. I've loved both series during their run on AS, and I hope that this neat match-up sees the light of day in the US.

Reminds me that I need to get the entire Lupin the 3rd series on DVD, though...

It'll be hard to get the entire Lupin series on DVD as the first season has not been licensed in the US. Fansubs of it are easy to find though.

The Pioneer dvd's start with the second season iirc (or whoever is releasing it now). I have never seen the entire Lupin series myself either, though I really do need to catch up one of these days.

Hehehe

(Amusingly enough, the author of the original Lupin book came up with the idea of having him face someone else's famous detective, too. Instead of making it a collaboration, though, he simply made a few, very few changes. The result was "Arsene Lupin vs Herlock Sholmes")

Conan could definitely catch Lupin because he isn't an idiot like Zenigata, canceling out his Elmer Fudd factor. Of course it's obvious that it's going to end with Conan and Lupin teaming up, but I'm still going to watch this, it seems like it'll be awesome!

Now, if there was a Kochi-Kame vs Lupin the 3rd crossover... (actually, I think there could be)

Conan has plenty of experience against another thief that happens to also be the protagonist of a manga and those confrontations always end the same way. Lupin won't be caught but it will be a believable even match.

I thought I'd bump this thread and remind everyone that this is airing on friday, so anyone who has a way to watch this, enjoy! This will be quite fun to watch methinks. :)

Hey wasn't that an Adult Swim show. So, they're going to play it on the Adult Swim channel this Friday which is in just merely 2 more days? I can't wait to start seeing that show again.

They probably won't. But yeah, Lupin III did air for a while on Adult Swim, though I'm not sure if Detective Conan (released as "Case Closed" in the US) had an airing or not. This will possibly end up not being licensed in the US like a lot of the Lupin III TV Specials, though I could be wrong.

Wooooah. Woah. How did I know not this. D: I love both of those series. Either it's going to be amazing, or it'll fail so hard that it's amazing anyway. I can't wait! Thanks for the news! :D

Case Closed had an airing, yup. Really short-lived, though...

Case Closed got pretty shitty ratings and lost FUNimation a ton of money (rumor has it that the reason they weren't able to pick up the rights to One Piece the first time around was because they had just spent all their money acquiring Detective Conan), so I doubt we'll see this appear in English. FUNi probably won't think it worth the risk.

We could be pleasantly surprised, though.

Hopefully. As a fan of both series, this is something I want to see.

So the special aired last night.

Overall...the title is really misleading. Because this wasn't a "Detective Conan vs. Lupin III" story...it was more like a "Detective Conan vs. a guy who Lupin III just happens to be stealing from." Hell, the two don't even find out each's other's names until the end of the two-hour special.

Still, it was a pretty decent special, from what I saw of it (I kept getting distracted by phone calls and the like). My favorite part was when Conan did his poison dart thing and accidentally hit Zenigata with it and then proceeds to do his "talking into the bowtie" thing in Zenigata's voice. Pretty hilarious stuff.

Well, it definitely sounds worth watching. I can't wait to watch it! :)

And for some reason, to think of Conan using Zenigata's voice to solve a case just sounds very right... hehehe
