Since the Missingno. trick was abolished G/S/C, it has become a great acheivement to raise a pokemon to level one hundred. But Why? Most are for just bragging rights or beating friends pokemon, but if you were playing R/S you'd be raising them for the level 100 Battle tower tourney (your pokemon most likely being above lvl 50.) Most of my friends do not have Emerald (the poor souls) and all they can do on their R/S is raise their pokemon; there is nothing left to do. I'm playing emerald and they wonder why I don't raise my pokemon. I tell them 1.)You don't need lv.100 pokemon to beat the battle frontier. 2.) I still have plenty more to do on my game (emerald being nearly twice as long as R/S. I keep my pokemon around the level 75 mark.

So is there really any point to owning ANY level 100 pokemon in emerald or higher? And am I the only one that feels that having a lv.100 pokemon takes all the fun away from owning it in the first place?

Oh yeah thats fun:ohdear: . You know it's trainers like you that make the game franchise become tedious. You're the kind of person that doesn't care about fully finishing the game. If you actually PLAYED the game through until you have nothing left to do, THEN you may need to raise your pokemon to LvL.100, but wouldn't a normal person just restart?

I don't restart cuz I hate losing all my pokemon. I generaly restart my XD game though after transfering all the goodies.

Bragging rights.

Never mind that anyone with $40 who's willing to risk killing their files can just do that via Action Replay anymore.

I do the same thing that you do, Sapphire_Dragonite.

I don't really care for getting my Pokemon up to Level 100 (I've only done that once, and it was cause I used Rare Candies, lol).

And I agree with you, if you get most or all your Pokemon up to Level 100, it does take away a lot of fun from the game. Because then, in R/S you basically only use your Pokemon games to battle your friends after that. So, like you said, there isn't much to do in R/S, if you have your Pokemon on Level 100.

Anyway, for the Battle Frontier, my Emerald Pokemon team isn't even on Level 50. XD

They are only on Level 40 to 43, yet somehow or another, I still manage to do very well in the Level 50 events there (I can win the events once, but it's winning them multiple times in a row that's the hard part for me).

In competitive battling, where you must take every opportunity offered to you in order to win, it is critical that you raise all of your Pokemon to level 100 in addition to giving them proper EVs and movesets. Since people do use the cartridge-based games for such an environment (though it is indisputably less flexible in this environment than on Netbattle), this is one area in which level 100 Pokemon have their heyday.

Otherwise, I don't see too much point to using level 100 Pokemon; however, in an in-game environment it always helps if your Pokemon were swindled with terrible IVs.

Well then what's the point of keeping them at Lv.75? The in-game limit is 100,which is what I raise them to.If you keep them around the 70's or 80's,then your just choosing a different limit.I don't see how raising it to 100 makes the Pokemon less fun,or how that interferes with completing the game.

It seems to me you enjoy the process of raising the Pokemon, and I do to.The only difference is that when I raise them I take them all the way to Lv.100.After that,I move on to the next Pokemon.Thinking about raising a Dunsparce.

And of course there's the whole competitive battling thing too.

The overall ability to "kill", as you say, the files generally ended with the first and second generations, it would seem. Due to the fact that was much easier to hack back in those days, more hackers were about and reaching levels of achievements that no one would dare to consider, nowadays, due to sheer difficulty. The codes were more secure, and there were much more glitches and such to exploit and to take advantage of. (</redundancy>)
Plus, it was a new "style" of game, per se, and Gamefreak wasn't the most technologically advanced at the time, and left holes for people to exploit.
Now that the games are more advanced, there are fewer holes and fewer glitches, and thus fewer codes to use that would be potentially gamesave-killing.
Wow, please excuse the rant.
Anyway, It's fun to own lv 100 pokemon in case you want to own someone, or merely for bragging rights. Although, you can still pop in an AR and Hax your way to 255. But for 101+, people would know that you had to use some form of cheats, so you'd be more frowned upon, not revered. CHEATING IS BAD, FOLKS! (Not really. I live for discovering more information about the 3rd generation through ROM hacking, glitches, and cheats. :D )

UNless you battle competitively, LV 100 is a waste of time. UNless you like bragging.

i'm not saying that lvl 100 pokemon aren't good. i'm just saying there are more fulfilling ways to use your gameplay time than to train them to the max. it is a lot more impressive to fill the national dex or beat the battle frontier than to raise your team for weeks on end for no apparant advantage in the game...

not to mention there are very few pokemon that need to wait till after lvl 80 to learn their last move.

It is not more fulfilling to complete a Pokedex than have a Pokemon that is fully battle ready. I say again, the point of this game is to battle, not to complete sidequests.

I train my pokemon to level 100 for the fun of it, not because I compeditively battle. I don't even do it for bragging rights. It's more of a why the heck not factor.

And why not do all of the above? I've got a team and a half to level 100 on my ruby game, along with a full pokedex. Whenever I finish raising the last three on my team, I plan on beating all the contests. I'm currently working through Leafgreen to raise a new team to level 100, along with finishing the dex and everything else in the game.

Just because someone has level 100 pokes doesn't mean that's all they do. I'll also add that if the game was all about battling, there wouldn't be any sidequests in the first place. It's not a single-task game, no matter what you think is the most important element.

I raise my Pokémon to Lv 100 (save for those that I suspect will evolve n DP, like my Furret) because I am a trainer, and therefore my goal is to raise my Pokémon to be the best they can be.

That's why, in my Emerald game, I haven't trained any above 65 (except the legendary I caught) and went onto breeding instead =P Personally, I don't really want a level 100 pokemon because there's noohing really left to do after that.

That's something I don't get. After I train a team to level 100, I train a new team to level 100. Is the popular mentality really that you only have one team and that's the end of things?

Well, I know at least on G/S/C there's always Pokemon Stadium 2. Man, I was addicted to leveling up my pokemon as well as writing down different movesets, team combos, etc. I had like at least 10-15 level 50 pokemon and some 75+ ones and I was determined to create the perfect level 100 team so I could say with confidence that I beat the game 100%.

Well then what's the point of keeping them at Lv.75? The in-game limit is 100,which is what I raise them to.

I don't object training to lv. 100. What I don't know is... HOW? Collect rare candies and feed? Or just the old school way? Or repeated Pokemon League battles? Well, of course, not to mention a big help from a Lucky Egg, maybe?

Battle Tower Tourney. I have Emerald and is raising my team toward Lv.100. I will try and battle there, I'm so tired of the E4. My pkmn are around Lv.80 right now. They're traded from Ruby so they get boosted exp.
