Magearna
Artificial Pokemon
Type: ???
Ability: ???
Height: 1.0m
Weight: 80.5kg
Its body is entirely metallic and contains tricky machinery. It was made by humans 500 years ago. There is a secret hidden inside its body.

Some questions to spark discussion on our new friend:
  • What type do you think it will be?
  • Could it be a legendary Pokemon? Or just a one-of-a-kind gift/wild Pokemon? Confirmed mythical (event legendary) Pokemon.
  • What ability and moves do you think it could have?
  • Will the PokeBall theme be relevant other than in design?
  • Will the "secret" Volcanion knows about Magiania (in the movie) be relevant in the game series? Could the secret be tied to the PokeBall theme? (Don't want to get too heavily into anime territory with this but it's a thought)
  • Do you like it? Simple question but of course it matters :p
And anything else you guys want to discuss of course!

Just don't start arguing about Gen 6.5 vs Gen 7 in here. It's tiring. Go do that in the Gen VI: The Future thread.

  • What type do you think it will be?
Fairy/Steel, seems fairly obvious.
  • Could it be a legendary Pokemon? Or just a one-of-a-kind gift/wild Pokemon?
Hmm, could be both, really. Possibly one-of-a-kind like Spiritomb? It seems unique.
  • Will the PokeBall theme be relevant other than in design?
I think it should. Its "core" seems to be a Poke Ball and its dress also resembles a Poke Ball.
  • Will the "secret" Volcanion knows about Magiania (in the movie) be relevant in the game series? Could the secret be tied to the PokeBall theme? (Don't want to get too heavily into anime territory with this but it's a thought)
Hmm, well one theory I read is that Volcanion itself is man-made, so perhaps there could be a connection?
  • Do you like it? Simple question but of course it matters
Yes, it has an appealing design IMO. :D

Alright, I' going to repost my speculation here (hope you don't mind ;D):

I think someone might have tried to artificially recreate the process of Carbink mutating into Diancie and made Magiana by "accident".

Carbink looks alot like a bunny and many people have already stated the similarities between Magiana and Diancie.

So Magiana could be an new legendary, created from Carbink or even an evolution for Carbink with some kind of mechanical upgrade.

By mechanically altering Carbink it evolves from a Rock/Fairy into a Steel/Fairy. I think that would be really cool as link to 6.5, by making the first revealed Pokemon an actual evolution of a Gen 6 Poke.

I think an evolution for Carbink could make it great, giving it even better stats and a better defensive typing. Although I'm kinda scared of Eviolite Carbink xD

But hey, that's just a theory. A GAME... oh wait...

I imagine this will be some kind of standard or mythical Pokemon. I don't see it being a boxart Pokemon, but stranger things have happened.

As for the typing, I think Fairy/Steel is a good bet, but I'm not sure. I think they'd just come out and say it if that was the case. There's not much reason for hiding it bar the element of surprise. As someone pointed out in another thread, Zekrom & Reshiram's typings were hidden at first, but as boxart legends, I think it's a little different for them. They are mascots after all. Xerneas & Yveltal's typings were also hidden, but I think that's moreso to do with that Xerneas is Fairy, an unannounced type at the time of their announcement.

I think the "secret" will be some kind of form change for either it, or it has the key to unlock Volcanion's theorized form, hencewhy it is pursuing Magiana. Or it may just be a film plot element, and both have no forms, or forms unrelated to that "secret".

Kindof hoping we keep the name Magiana for the English name, as it's rather pretty.

  • What type do you think it will be?
Fairy/Steel or Steel/Fairy is most likely. Could be pure Steel but I'm getting Fairy vibes from it idk.
  • Could it be a legendary Pokemon? Or just a one-of-a-kind gift/wild Pokemon?
Definitely a Mythical. Possibly the all-100-stats Mythical that's missing from Gen VI.
  • Will the PokeBall theme be relevant other than in design?
Maybe it has to do something with its status as a man-made Pokemon.
  • Will the "secret" Volcanion knows about Magiania (in the movie) be relevant in the game series?
It may be referenced in the Pokedex entries or an in-game event but I doubt it will have much to do with the next game's main plot.
  • Do you like it? Simple question but of course it matters
Definitely, it looks cute.

What type do you think it will be?
- Personally I think either Steel alone, or Steel/Psychic, as Fairy just seems to predictable to me. Could still be Fairy, just think it would be given the wider approach as opposed to the obvious.

Could it be a legendary Pokemon? Or just a one-of-a-kind gift/wild Pokemon?
- I think it will be our intro to the Gen 6.5 idea Pokémon, and also, if this is was there intro Pokémon for Gen 7, I would of picked something completely different, not something fitting similarly with Gen 6's current theme, although the fitting could only be relevant to the movie for Volcanion's sake.

What ability and moves do you think it could have?
- Clear Body or something vaguely similar with different effects. Moves; probably will have a lacking movepool as I can't see it learning too many.

Will the PokeBall theme be relevant other than in design?
- No, I think it's just pure coincidence that it looks like that, and if it was for "pokéball purpose" in design, then that will be just it, and nothing else. I doubt the pokémon looking aspects of it will be considered in the bigger picture.

Will the "secret" Volcanion knows about Magiania (in the movie) be relevant in the game series? Could the secret be tied to the PokeBall theme? (Don't want to get too heavily into anime territory with this but it's a thought)
- No, I just think Magiana was created in the AZOTH Kingdom, and will be our intro to Southern/those parts of Kalos. A sort of "princess" for the Southern Kalos since we got Diancie previously and it bares a similar look.

Do you like it? Simple question but of course it matters
- I mean, I don't hate it, just, if this is there "intro to Gen 7" Pokémon, they could of done 1000000000 times better, and it's not even that the design is bad. It's the concept we know so far that makes me believe it's a Gen 6.5 thing going on.

You guys don't have to answer all the questions :p I just put them there to spark discussion and not make the first post boring.

Also just saw speculation on another site that the "ears" fill the gap at the bottom of the dress and that Magiana can fold itself in the PokeBall dress. Seems pretty solid at the minute.

And it looks like it has a third eye shape on its forehead. Could be nothing, could be intentional.

Man if this is a 600 BST Steel/Fairy it's going to be amazing. Give it cool useful moves like Shift Gear, Calm Mind, Thunder Wave and Volt Switch and we'll be laughing.

Over designed IMO but it's interesting with the unknowns about it right now!

  • What type do you think it will be? Fairy/Steel
  • Could it be a legendary Pokemon? Or just a one-of-a-kind gift/wild Pokemon? I'm leaning towards a Lucario/Zoroark situation.
  • What ability and moves do you think it could have? Light metal/unique move
  • Will the PokeBall theme be relevant other than in design? I doubt it
  • Do you like it? Give it some time.

Definately no ordinary Pokémon. Up near the left corner of the page it says 'maboroshi no Pokémon'. That's used to refer to event legendaries, I think. So here's to hoping we get another Deoxys situation?

  • What type do you think it will be? - Steel/Fairy
  • Could it be a legendary Pokemon? Or just a one-of-a-kind gift/wild Pokemon? - Considering it's made by humans and looks advanced for a 500 year old machine, legendary.
  • What ability and moves do you think it could have? - A signature attack, and Levitate
  • Will the PokeBall theme be relevant other than in design? - I don't think so
  • Will the "secret" Volcanion knows about Magiania (in the movie) be relevant in the game series? Could the secret be tied to the PokeBall theme? (Don't want to get too heavily into anime territory with this but it's a thought) - I think if the next game is set in Kalos, then yes. I don't think it will have anything to do with pokeballs.
  • Do you like it? Simple question but of course it matters - Like most Pokemon I will have to get used to it. And like most Pokemon, yes I do. To me it reminds me of Diancie, a Steel version of it anyway.

I definitely hope it is a Steel type. Also, since it is featured alongside Volcanion in the movie, it is highly likely it is a legendary. The pokeball design seems to have a special meaning - otherwise, why would it be emphasized?

Also, I like the design :) It is fairly unique. Even with all those 700+ pokemon, we haven't seen something so steampunk like Magiana :D

This is interesting. If it really does have a third eye, that's giving me a Jirachi vibe.

Actually...if it really does turn out to be Fairy/Steel, then this may explain why Jirachi didn't become a Fairy type in Gen VI, as they wouldn't want the Pokemon to be too similar to eachother.

I wonder if Magiana will get a signature move? If the legendary/mythical pattern is anything to go by, it may well do.

Oh my god didn't even think about Shift Gear! Another Shift Gear/Gear Grind User would be incredible! Now I'm even more hoping it isn't a legendary xD

I definitely don't think that the Poke Ball design is a coincidence or that it's unlikely to be significant. My bet is that Magiana is a legendary that maintains a virtual reality for Pokemon contained in Poke Balls. Volcanion sees it as an enemy because it deems Poke Balls as enslaving.

As a game feature, the next take on Pokemon Amie might emulate this so-called virtual reality.

What type do you think it will be?
My current line of thinking is that it will be a Steel/Fairy-type.
Could it be a legendary Pokemon? Or just a one-of-a-kind gift/wild Pokemon?

I've heard some talk that CoroCoro has outright referred to it as being "Mythical", but until that's verified it could be anything really. I mean, look at Lucario and Zoroark.
What ability and moves do you think it could have?

Goodness knows. Hopefully something more interesting than "Pressure"? It has legs, so I doubt we've got a "Levitate" user too.
Will the PokeBall theme be relevant other than in design?
Probably not.
Will the "secret" Volcanion knows about Magiania (in the movie) be relevant in the game series? Could the secret be tied to the PokeBall theme? (Don't want to get too heavily into anime territory with this but it's a thought).
Aside from being a case of "To obtain Magiana, transfer this event Volcanion to [FUTURE GAME]"? Probably not.
Do you like it? Simple question but of course it matters :p
Yes. I think it's absolutely adorable.

CoroCoro does indeed confirm that it's a mythical (see the text in the first bulletin point on the left).

Oh does it say that? I hadn't seen that reported anywhere. Is that not referring to Volcanion either? I mean I was getting definite legendary vibes from Magiana anyway but confirmation is always good.

Edit: Ok that's good to know.

I'm leaning towards it being related to Carbink/Diancie too, not necessarily as a Carbink evolution though. It could be that someone just tried to make a robot Diancie and it came to life.

It would be pretty interesting if it had some Rozen Maiden-esque backstory :D
