According to Dengenki Playstation Magazine, Nippon Ichi has announced Disgaea 2. Called Makai Senki Disgaea 2 on the other side of the pond, it will launch in 2006.

The game will feature new main characters, and takes place three years after the first Disgaea. The main character is 17-year-old Adel, whose world's population was turned to demons 15 years ago upon the arrival of the dark lord Xenon. Adel was unaffected by the demon's curse, and sets out to fight Xenon and save his family.

Disgaea 2 returns to the humorous roots of the first game, so fans of the original shouldn't be dissapointed. Disgaea 2 also brings back many of the features from the first game, including the demonic congress. Makai Senki Disgaea 2 has not been announced for US release, but it will more than likely reach our shores.

RPGamer's Dengeki scans show some of the character classes: from the much-loved Warriors, Mages, and Archers, to the return of the (female) Clerics and the Ninja, and the introduction of a few new class-lines. Plus, it shows that characters from their latest release, Makai Kingdom, will make brief appearances when casting high-level spells such as the Omega and Tera lines. (Micky-chaaan! ♥)

Aaaand the fans are off and complaining already: "(...) no matter how GOOD it is, it is still going to be looked at as Final Fantasy X-2 without all the porn..." Apparently, because the title is "Disgaea 2", having anyone but Laharl for a hero is akin to committing a mortal sin, driving some fans to drown their sorrows in booze or prophesize about the end of everything good and right in the world of strategy games. Yeah.

I think it has the potential to be wonderful, personally. :x Banzai, N1!
