Hello!
On Wikipedia, anyone can get a torrent of their entire mediawiki article database (Wikipedia:Database download - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia).

I think this would be a great idea with Bulbapedia also, for several reasons:
  • If you use torrents, there will not be any extra load on the servers.
  • The database would mean that a user could lookup things on Bulbapedia without an Internet connection, by setting up a wiki on his own computer using the Bulbapedia database.
  • By doing so, there would be less load on the actual Bulbagarden servers.

I'd just like to throw that out there, and add this option is a lot better than crawling Bulbapedia onto a hard drive for many reasons.

I don't think necessarily downloading it, but if there was an advanced Pokedex EXE available out there based on the database. It would be really useful. I'd try to make one, but I don't know much about programming, all I have been able to do is make a fairly precise computer information tool.

The database would be a better idea than a Pokedex program. An entire database (minus the userspace articles) would allow private wikis. Also, if it was an EXE, what about Linux and Mac users? And to get the actual data from an EXE requires quite a bit of hacking. A SQL database is much more versatile, and is cross-platform too. It wouldn't need to be debugged, as if Bulbapedia works, then its database works too.
