I've always wondered this. We wait for episodes of pokemon every week. Then on Saturdays (or whenever you get a chance to watch your DVR) we sit down to watch that week's episode. Sometimes though it feels like a particular episode has a great storyline and potential for other interactions between trainers and pokemon, but because of the half-hour time limit, plots are condensed, interactions are cut, and quality is sometimes low-par.

So, if the writers proposed for the anime to be lengthened into an hour-long episode would you approve. If you don't please explain why.

Also if there is a thread like this, *I was never here :-|*

Depends.

A lot of episodes are endless wandering around, and they feel like they go on for an hour. If those kinds of episodes actually did last an hour, I'd rip off my own face and eat it. There are stories that should go on for longer, but I guess they could always be covered in other episodes.

If the each half-hour was a separate episode, making it similar to 15-minute, two-segment shows, then I'd love that. But then again, that would just be two regular episodes slapped together.

If it were an hour long, they would be able to squeeze in the fillers shortly in every episode, and every chapter of the show would be following the route of the game play

This.

So many times I'm surprised I'm only half-way done.

So rather than making an hour's worth of plot, they should add fluff?

It doesn't really matter what we think since Japan doesn't even make hour-long animated programming in the first place.

Length is not the problem, it's the quality of the writing itself. Giving them more time to fill would be fruitless.

The only way I can see this working is if we get more 1-hour story arcs like the recent Battle Subway ep, longer Gym battlers, or more mini-tournaments.

The typical fillers barely have enough to last for 22 minutes, let along 44.

Quite the opposite. The writers would have to include plot important stories - like battling a rival, or having one of the main pokes evolve. While the story progresses, they could include short fillers. For example, they could come across some random person who needs help, and the rival appears to help, and then after problem is solved, Ash and rival have a battle - end XDD

I don't think it should last an hour, unless all of the younger fanbase would actually enjoy it. But, for us that are part of the older fanbase, that would be an hour of Ash.

And really, do we need more of him?

However long the episodes would be, one phrase should always stay in people's minds- it's not quantity, it's quality.

If N and Team Plasma existed with a much better plot focused around B/W then I'd be all for it.

But as it stands right now... I doubt highly they'd focus on plot. They'd probably go filler crazy.

It would suck. The animation and writing would lose greatly in quality, especially since the anime is so long and low-quality already. I've never even heard of a cartoon where one episode lasts more than the usual ~22 minutes.
Instead of long individual episodes, though, we could get more two-parters or longer continuous arcs... I think that's what you'd want more.

It'd probably need to be on a case-by-case basis. I love Oshawott, but I don't know if I'd need an entire hour to see it look for its lost scalchop, you know?

Perhaps when a new, important character (like a rival) debuts an hour long episode would be beneficial, though. Doing hour long specials would be cool, too. I'd say to save longer episodes for ones that count and aren't very "filler" in nature, like condensing parts 1 and 2, and then 3 and 4, of the Club/Don Battles into two separate hour long specials.

When you have a show that lasts 20 minutes every episode you get the chance of make 2 part episodes to last 40 minutes. If you make a 40 minute long episode for the majority you won't have the freedom of making a 20 minute one.

Only the most eye-catching scenes of certain areas deserve an hour length. For Pokemon's case, they can be either the villain's story and activity, some Gym battles/Contest arcs, League/Festival, or any others that would be better if they're stretched over 22-23 minutes and wishes for 44-45 minutes worth.

A weekly's worth? Nah. Especially if it's just filler or stories that are better off not stretching even over 20 minutes.

That doesn't stop us from discussing it. :-/

I agree. I don't think Pokemon could consistantly come up with A+, hour-long, well-written, episodes where it's not a hassle to sit through. The only show where I've seen this work is probably Criminal Minds, but that's another obsession. However, I think arcs would make great hour-long episodes, if they're good arcs in the first place. Perhaps the problem of out-of-the-butt wins or DEMs would be reduced if major rival battles or gym battles, like Glisocor'd mentioned, were extended.

For example, I feel as though parts of the Sinnoh League would have fit into this system perfectly.

Hahahahahahahaahahhhaa! If an episode is an hour long and it's a bad filler(which has been happening a lot lately) do you really think it's worth the money to even air it? I'm sorry but I'm not seeing anything that good to make me want to watch an hour long of Osha- Best Wishes unless Team Plasma is going to finally show.

I guess I cant' judge an hour long episode until I see one but I can see a ton of filler happening. I fee like the writers have troubles making a 22 min. episode and need to add in lots of fluff and filler, and "ooohhh look at the pretty sceniary". I dunno if they will be able to pull off an effective hour episode.
