Everytime I load any page of bulbapedia a weird site comes up (assumedly attempting to get me to download a file) saying that bulbapedia contains malware. Has the site been compromised or something?

Malware, I don't seem to have this problem.

Hm, I'm not having any issue like this.

Are you logged into Bulbapedia when this happens to you, or are you just viewing articles as a guest?

If you're browsing as a guest, it may be an ad causing this issue. Please try to find out what ad is causing this problem, and report a screenshot of it to evkl. (There's supposed to be a thread for ad reports, but it doesn't seem to exist anymore)

If you're logged in while this happens, you might have some malware on your computer that is trying you to download more malicious files. If this is the case, scan your computer ASAP.

I'm not having this issue, but my internet just crashes and says "We are sorry but this page has to close" on IE7 on XP when I try and go on bulbapedia and can't view any articles. Anyone know why this is?

Can't view any articles or just the Main Page? If it's the Main Page it might be an issue with javascript (since we have the awesome countdown there to Platinum), but for all pages, I'd say it's just because IE sucks. You should use Firefox.

I can only view the main page and I have never had too much problems with IE before. Think its ok now, but one page I knew it crashed on was the user talk rotom page (It debates its status)

@ slade428 - Looks like your browser or a firewall doesn't like an ad that was appearing for you and that other person. Best thing to do would be to find out the URL of the ad that caused the problem (if it happens again, look for a URL in the warning or if possible, try to obtain more information from whatever is creating the warning) and report it.

@ Shinx3000 - Extremely odd. I tested loading some pages on IE and had no problems, so I'm not sure what exactly was causing your IE to freak out. But I must agree with the Echidna and say, IE really, really sucks for incompatibilities & security holes. Firefox is much better.

Everything seems fine now, guess it just was a technicial error I having for a while earlier

Getting the same thing on my mac (opera) and pc (chrome).
givemelog.cn

givemelog.cn <---this, I saw this too

Anyway, as I was browsing through bulbapedia yesterday, I think the page suddenly changed to the pdf format thingie without my consent. I think this has something to do with one of the ads. It freeezs my browser and slows down my PC. I had to use task manager to close my browser. Then, I restart my PC. I think I went back to bulbapedia to view some pages with no problem after that.

Today, I went to the main page of bulbapedia and I'm very sure I did not click anything and the page changed to the pdf view format again. As usual, the browser freezes and PC slows down. I can't access the task manager this time with the error 'Your admin has disabled the task manager (something like that).' A while later, my antivirus detected a trojan inside the system32 folder. Had to delete it. For safety measures, I restart and performed system restore.

Either way, maybe it's just me but I've never had this problem before until yesterday. I'll be avoiding bulbapedia for awhile until I'm sure it's safe again.

I encountered similar problems. After seeing the particular web address that was causing the problem, I googled for it to see if there was anything out on the web that could help me find out what was going on, and I only got a couple of actual results returned for the search.

One result was a link to this thread. I decided to sign up for an account so that I could post in this thread that I too was experiencing problems with getting Bulbapedia to load due to the website address being discussed.

The other result was to the website itself, givemelog.cn. In its listing of the site in the search results, Google warns, "This site may harm your computer."

I'm running Firefox, and the full web address that's causing the problem as listed in my browser history is:

http://givemelog.cn/spl/pdf.php?f=all

All I've done is tried to load the front page of Bulbapedia, and as it's loading, it acts as if I clicked on a link to a pdf file, and my browser pretty much just sits there until I end the program in the Windows Task Manager.

Whatever it is that's happening is making using Bulbapedia impossible and makes me wonder if it's currently safe.

Bulbapedia is absolutely 100% safe. I've yet to encounter any virus-related problems on the wiki.

Your problem is that you have rouge antivirus program. It is fake. It is telling you to delete things that you can't delete without ruining your computer. You must get rid of your antivirus program. Is it antivirus 360? I had that for two days and it completely took over my computer. It was blocking every site I tried to go to on IE, and there were annoying pop-ups every minute. It also claimed that system files were trojans and tried to get me to delete them, with a ton of other files that your computer needs to stay alive. You have to get rid of the program. The problem is not with Bulbapedia, its with your fake antivirus program.

Nate is 100% correct. Nothing's wrong with Bulbapedia--apparently one of the malware programs that's out there enjoys saying so, though.

Well, there's something new or different about Bulbapedia because it wasn't doing this before this morning. But now, when I tried just now to load the main page, the main page stops loading and I'm redirected to

http://givemelog.cn/spl/pdf.php?f=all

as if I had clicked on a link to a pdf file. Just trying to have the main page of Bulbapedia load causes Adobe to start up. I decided to just let it sit there running until it stopped, just to see what'd happen. After my hard drive ran like crazy and my computer system slowed to slug-speed, now whatever it was doing has stopped and it's just sitting on a blank page, the address of which is as I posted

http://givemelog.cn/spl/pdf.php?f=all

and who knows what the heck happened to Bulbapedia 'cause it's not returning to Bulbapedia now that it's loaded the givemelog.cn address.

So, I open a new tab and try to go to Bulbapedia again and it'll finally finish loading in the new tab, but the first one never took me back to Bulbapedia after the whole pdf redirect. Something that's been added to Bulbapedia is super screwy because this never happened to me before this morning, and I've been visit Bulbapedia daily lately. Bulbapedia shouldn't be triggering some weird pdf loading redirect just because I try to load the main page only to end with a blank page making me have to reenter the Bulbapedia address into my browswer/click on my saved link to the main page a second time.

Oh, and this morning after this happened the first time, I ran a full scan of my computer with http://free.avg.com/ the AVG Anti-virus and it found no viruses or anything.

But something is still screwy even if it isn't a virus because something is causing Adobe to boot and the page to redirect that is most definitely coming from Bulbapedia.

There is most definitely a problem with Bulbapedia's Ads. I use a Mac and therefore have no antivirus software and Safari (my web browser) alerts me about the same givemelog.cn site others have mentioned. Thankfully nothing bad happens since I'm not running windows. Regardless of what OS I'm using, logging into Bulbapedia (versus visiting it as a guest) removes the ads and allows me to browse in peace.

So yes, there is a problem, and it is directly caused by the ads given to guests of Bulbapedia.

The admins need to take a look at their ad provider and disable this site. The site is trying to exploit a recently discovered flaw in Adobe Reader that allows code to be executed (i.e Virus installation.)

Indeed. Also running on a mac, which has never had any antivirus programs added to it other than what came with it (like most macs).

No other website has ever done this to me. It's only bulbapedia. This is not something that is caused by some "rouge antivirus program."
