It's nice to see Marvel getting smart and following up the movies with animated series. Wonder if this means we'll eventually get a Deadpool cartoon if that movie ever sees the light of day. But until then...we get Thor. Which I'm happy about. Lot of good stuff they can do with Thor, and a lot of stuff that will translate well into a Masters of the Universe-like cartoon.
While Marvel has recently shelved the idea of Hulk: Gamma Corps animated series, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that a Thor animated series is coming in 2010. The new series will debut after the live action film starring the character.
According to the trade, Marvel Animation is developing and self-producing 26 half hour episodes which will follow Thor’s adventures on Asgard and beyond. Supporting cast will include Balder the Brave, the Warriors Three and Loki.
From Hollywood Reporter: Marvel president of animation Eric Rollman said the series is part of the company's plan to follow each live-action movie with an animated series and "offer a continued awareness in the marketplace." It already is in production on cartoon series "The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes," which will be available for broadcast in 2011, in time for Marvel Studios' releases of the live-action "The First Avenger: Captain America" and "The Avengers."
Marvel’s Wolverine and the X-Men is slated to debut on Nickelodeon’s Nicktoons network in January. Iron Man: Armored Avengers is slated to debut in 2009 as well.
