First, we had House of M, which reduced to mutant population in the Marvel Universe to a mere 198 (roughly). Then came the Decimation, which screwed with that number to a weird extent. Starting next week, Endangered Species looks to bring back the missing mutant gene. But, succeed or fail, the X-Men will then have to deal with...the Messiah Complex. Not much has been revealed, but apparently the link below has two covers for the event, and we've also got these interesting pieces of information:

NRAMA: So can you break down the gameplan a little – word has it that this is an “old school” style crossover, moving throughout all the X-Men titles. Where does it start, where does it all end?

NL: Our checklist looks like this:

• Chapter 1: (X-Men: Messiah Complex One Shot).
• Chapter 2: (Uncanny X-Men [HASHTAG]#492[/HASHTAG])
• Chapter 3: (X-Factor #25)
• Chapter 4: (New X-Men #44)
• Chapter 5: (X-Men [HASHTAG]#206[/HASHTAG])
• Chapter 6: (Uncanny X-Men [HASHTAG]#493[/HASHTAG])
• Chapter 7: (X-Factor #26)
• Chapter 8: (New X-Men #45)
• Chapter 9: (X-Men [HASHTAG]#207[/HASHTAG])
• Chapter 10: (Uncanny X-Men [HASHTAG]#494[/HASHTAG])
• Chapter 11: (X-Factor #27)
• Chapter 12: (New X-Men #46)
• Chapter 13: (X-Men [HASHTAG]#208[/HASHTAG])

NRAMA: What can you tell us about the story at this point, without giving too much away?

NL: Something happens in Chapter One that changes everything. It stratifies the world of the X-Men in a clear way. It unifies the heroes in a way they haven’t been for years, and all under Scott Summers. Cyclops steps up huge in this event and will get people talking.

NRAMA: Let’s talk about the cover images that have been released – how significant are the players shown? Important in the story, of just Marc’s favorites?

NL: They are all important. Some others who are important are: Jaime Madrox, Hellion, Bishop, Gambit, Wolfsbane, Warpath and X-23.

It's nice to see the old way of doing crossovers coming back. Though I'm sure it'll piss off a LOT of people. And it's VERY nice to see Cyclops taking back his leadership role in a big way. I just want to know why he's leading the X-Men off the side of a mountain.

Well, this could be cool, I guess. I was planning on dropping Uncanny and Adjectiveless, but if this whole thing is good, I'll probably continue on with them.

Haven't been buying X-Factor, but I heard it's really good. May as well get these issues for completion's sake.

Messiah... reminds me of Apocalypse. I certainly hope not; the recent Apocalypse story in X-Men was teh suck.

It was (Peter) David who provided some insight into one of the bigger announcements so far, the “Messiah Complex” storyline, set to run throughout the X-books this fall. “'Messiah Complex' deals with mutants being an endangered species,” said David, “and what happens when Cerebra detects the birth of a child with the X-gene.” He went on to say that both the Marauders and Purifiers also find out about the child, who then disappears, prompting a race to see who can find the baby first. “We had a mutant summit a couple of month ago and beat out the story. It's twelve parts over four books for three months.”

Sounds like the kid will be the opposite of Leech from X-men 3.

Yeah, I am getting an X3 vibe from the kid, too. I think it'd be a good story if done right. Perhaps this will undo what Quesada did. All we really need now is for the Avengers to reassemble.

"Wanna get your powers back? Lick this kid."

Hey it's better than what Quicksilver tried to do. "Hey. get your powers back with some Inhuman Terrigan mist crystals!"
