What kind of vocals do you tend to listen to? Are you more drawn to women singing, or prefer a frontman?

(Note, I've deliberately worded as such to include feminine male vocals, etc.)

When I listen to vocally-focused music, it tends to be men. I have more male-fronted music than I do women, and the vocal delivery tends to be masculine as well. Most of my listening is of instrumental music, but I'd say at least 90% of my vocal collection is male-dominant. I guess I just gravitate towards my own gender.

Depends on my mood I guess. When I want my blood to run I listen to male vocals, if I want to relax I'd listen to female vocals. In the end I like vocals that sound good.

I don't have a preference, really. As long as the music and lyrics are good, I'll enjoy it. However, I did choose the first choice because male-voiced bands are what I dominantly listen to.

masculine, for this reason pretty much

I prefer female vocals. Maybe as you say it's a predisposition to your own gender. I prefer the tone and range a female voice can achieve. I do like male vocals as well though. The majority of my favourite singers are women but my favourite bands are all guys. Strange. It depends heavily on the individual, regardless of gender a lot of vocals can be masculine or feminine sounding.

It depends of the genre of music, but I lean towards male vocals in my metal bands.

Female, I guess like everyone else I tend to gravitate towards my own gender. Though I personally find feminine vocals to be more soothing to listen to, which is probably why I listen to female vocals more. To unwind and lay back.

While I have a MUCH greater volume of male vocalists than female in my music library, most of my favourite singers are women. I've yet to find a male singer who can reach my soul like Amy Winehouse can.

I have three male favs (God Freddie Mercury, David Bowie and the Argentinian legend Gustavo Cerati), but by far most of the music I listen to, are feminine voices.

Female for 'calm' music, male for hard rock. But I do think I have more music with female voices.

I'm surprised at the results as I've been asking my friends and their preference is usually that of their sexual orientation, not their gender identification. I like men and prefer more masculine vocals.

But then it may be because I'm not a fan of high notes that feminine vocals usually go for.

I'm not sure I can vote, because I don't really have a preference. I mostly listen to Death Metal and other extreme kinds of music, which is mostly made up of male vocalists, but I guess it just depends on the mood I'm in. Female metal vocalists do exist, and though harder to find, are just as heavy and awesome as male vocalists. Likewise, male vocalists can be hardcore or they can be beautiful and uplifting. So really, it's hard for me to say.

I guess I'l just do what everyone else is doing and say - based on my preferred genres and the more prominent gender in those genres - masculine.

Is there a third option? I find that I have a soft spot for androgynes, such as Neil Tennant (Pet Shop Boys) or Antony Hegarty (Antony And The Johnsons).

Looking at my favourite playlist, there are hardly any female singers in there. Therefore I think it's safe to conclude that I prefer a male voice
There is a large variety in male voices in said playlist though

Dragonforce, Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin have a lead singer with a relatively high pitched voice, whereas Sabaton and Disturbed are on the other end of the spectrum
Then there's also a lot of voices from around the middle of said spectrum, e.g. Pink Floyd, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jimi Hendrix, Metallica, Alestorm and Gorillaz

I think my apparent preference for male vocals is caused by the fact that most singers in the genres that I tend to listen to (heavy metal, classic rock and everything in between, reggae and drum and bass) are male

I've added a third option for you :)

Aw, thanks. I was kinda joking about adding a third option to the poll, but still, that's very nice of you.
And I still stand by what I've said. There's good singers both masculine (David Gahan) and feminine (Tujiko Noriko), but Tennant and Hegarty are in a league all their own.

Depends of the music style they play, I'm mostly neutral about it because if it comes to my taste of music (industrial metal, symphonic power metal etc) both are good options. And if androgynous or a little robotic-ish, it's just awesome.

I could say there are more favourite bands for me, which have male vocals, but I get used to them easier and then I start looking for something new. Those few female vocals bands are usually longer term favourites.

I looked at my playlist in my phone, and it's half and half. Vocals don't really matter if the song itself is good. Though, I do have a liking for male vocals :3

I listen to 99% female vocals. I just think female vocals are prettier and easier to listen to.
