I was just wondering something about the Masuda method...
Some say to use Pokèmon from two different regions, other two different language sets... so I was wondering, my Pokèmon all have English name, as they originated on an UK-version game.
Does the chance of getting a shiny increase if the partner is from USA? They will be from different regions, but their names are still the same.. Or does it only count for those who actually do have different languages (like the Spanish or Japanese versions etc)

On a sidenote (just for fun) how many languages are the games translated into?

From Bulbapedia:

If an egg is hatched from a Pokémon received from a game originating from a language other than the language of the player's cartridge, the chances of hatching a shiny Pokémon from that egg increase.

I know that but the very same site also says different region.
EU and US are not the same region, heck for most game consoles (except the more recent zone-free ones) American games doesn't even work on European consoles unless you alter them. (I know this isn't the case with DS-games but the versions are still somewhat different)

It has to be a different language I think (i.e. one that would give you the foreign pokedex entry). French, Spanish, German and UK are all in the EU region, but French and German 'mons will work on UK cartridges for Masuda, suggesting it's a language thing and not a region thing.

This may be a very noobish question but how do you check if the Pokemon you get gives you a foreign entry? I trade a lot on GTS and I'm sure most Pokemon have the same spelling in the US as in foreign language countries.

If you go to your pokedex and select a pokemon check the touch screen if there is a new button that has ENG, JPN, GER, etc. then you have received a foreign dex entry. You can push the button to see the entry.

This works for Platinum, but only a few pokemon (6?) in DP. To check if the pokemons name is the same in English and other languages you can generally check right at the bottom of a pokemons page on Bulbapedia

[bp=Meister#Diamond_and_Pearl]Here is a list of Pokémon with foreign dex entries in DP[/bp]. Use the Simple Questions thread or, preferably, the Shiny Pokémon via Masuda Method thread next time.

Please note that by foreign Pokémon they mean of different language. Therefore, US and EU would not be considered a foreign couple.

In DPt you first need to unlock the feature with the Meister, a hiker found in a house on Route 226. Diamond and Pearl have only a selected Pokémon, but in the case of Platinum all the 493 species display their entry in other languages. For HGSS the feature is unlocked as soon as you get a foreign language version Pokémon in a trade, either local or via Wi-Fi.
