Mattel Recalls Second Batch of Chinese Made Toys

This is just shotty manufacturing. The Chinese should be better than this. How hard is it to not use lead based paint?

Very easy if you don't have anyone monitoring things. The Chinese are just practicing capitalism. These things don't get caught until they've been sold here for some time.

The better question is why do these products get into this country. Does no one check these things? These things are imported by major American companies like Mattel. You would think they would be interested in and concerned about how they are produced.

Unless costs are the over-riding concern.

Here's a scary thought--something like 90 percent of the toys sold in the U.S. come from China.

We can complain as much as we want, but it's American companies who sell them to us.

So, who do we direct our complaints to? Chinese companies or the U.S. companies buying those products? Assuming we can identify the country of origin.

Then, there's the question of HOW MUCH MORE YOU'RE WILLING TO PAY for products made in the USA? Which is no guarantee they'll be any safer. Anyone remember Ford Pintos exploding when rear-ended or Explorers turning turtle because of their Firestone tires?
