I am bored.

So, choose.

I personally can't decide...

And I have no idea what the difference between a Pokémon Watcher and a Pokémon Researcher is. But I've heard both terms, so I'm going with both of them.

Drug dealer.

He'll probably catch a Sneasel, and have it cut up the crack rocks to make them into a fine powder.

Either that, or male prostitute. :)

Gym leader.

He already said in "Stairway to Devon" that he wanted to become a Gym leader like his father. I assume after Norman retires he'd take over the Petalburg Gym.

I have no idea if that line was dub added or not though.

The results of the poll so far prove that people are mean Max haters. I could never understand little kid character haters. =(

I voted for Pokemon researcher. Sometimes, people want to become one thing when they're a certain age and end up choosing something different when they grow up. While I can see Max becoming a rather talented Pokemon trainer (he certainly has the attitude and the knowledge for it), I don't think he'd like staying in one place. He seems eager to go out and explore. What does he think about, the moment he and May part with Ash? Going off to a new adventure. Being a Gym Leader will confine him to one place. Being a Pokemon researcher, however, will let him travel around and learn things. And Max likes learning things.

He could be a Pokemon Watcher, I guess, but Max in a lab coat is a fun image.

That's why he'll end up being the accountant for his father's gym. Maybe the family lawyer too.

Aren't all kid characters commonly hated? ^^; I vote Gym Leader. ^^

Yes, and I still don't get why! I love kid characters, they're usually so full of enthusiasm and wonder and they're often so naive... they make me smile. And then people go on and hate them. And it makes me sad.

Yeah, Blackjack, I know exactly who you're talking about. That poor boy, of all people they decided to pick on the most developed character in the goddamned franchise.

And Max won't be a lawyer or an accountant. He's not that boring. In any case, he doesn't seem to like boring things like that. =/

The thing with Max at the moment that is he is so full of potential. He looks up to different people and from there we see him considering different paths. I don't think he has given up on the idea of being a Gym Leader yet but he knows there are other options out there as well.

I think he'll spend some time trying different things out (giving the writers an excuse to put him in a contest against May, though I don't think that will be his final choice) and probably become a researcher after some time as a trainer.

Cody Hida from Digimon Adventure 02. He's the youngest of the bunch, but carries a responsibility beyond his years, especially from what we see in the ending. In the epilogue, he was shown to have grown up to be a lawyer, which is why I brought it up (this despite the fact that lying made him physically ill in one episode).

You can read more about Cody here, if you scroll down on the page. Gives spoilers, but hey, I just gave away the ending.

Like Cousin Oliver, Max will grow up to be in a rock and roll band. :p

You want to know the honest reason why some people dislike Max? While others see him as useless, (I don't, because it helped give May a foil and was an interesting dynamic on the group, as well as showed a protective side of her, one of the reasons Hikari isn't as interesting is she has no foil), but some people dislike Max because they're bitter that he was there and Misty wasn't.

Take a moment and think about it. Would most people have prefered an AG team of Ash, May, Misty and Brock or Ash, May, Max and Brock? A lot of people here would have preffered the first for AG.

As such, being Misty fans, they can't bash May because they know they would never get away with it, (especially since May was the only thing seperating AG from being another Johto), so they take it out on Max, because they can.

To be honest I didn't mind Max, although I liked him much more in Hoenn than in BF. In BF they seemed to forget about him, so he was just "there" without any real purpose. Back in Hoenn it was really neat to have him looking up to both Ash and May, as well as both of them taking care and looking after him. I think some Max bashers need to look at the extra depth it gave Ash and May in AG, because it made them look more responsible by having a younger kid to look out for.

And he did act as a great foil to May, and they played off each other well. As said, Hikari doesn't have a foil to play off of. Which is why her dynamic within the group is kinda meh.

Ah, I had a feeling it would all turn out to be the Misty fans' fault. Glad we got that sorted.

But wait... I thought we did bash May? Why would we need to bash Max as a displacement activity? Agggh, too much logic -!

I always figured little kid characters get bashed because they're often so annoyingly chirpy. Kids in movies rarely get to do anything except spout off cute (read: puke-tastic) one-liners. That doesn't explain why Cody gets hated on, though, since he's nothing like that. For that matter, neither is Max (Max fits under another annoying heading, however: The Precocious Wiseass Punk).

As I said, Max represents alot of the fanbase.

And that is why people hate him. XD
