May, What do you think?

Well... seeing as this was a big subject in the Jungle Battle thread, I thoguht I'd make a topic here! =D Obviously May is the second most important character. Maybe even bigger than Misty. She definitely has had a lot more attention drawn to her. Even in the last two intros. Both of them has a few frames directed only to her, and then another one with Ash, and another with Max and Brock, who are probably the two least important characters. She is starting to steal most of the spotlight a bit from Ash for sure. She has her own storyline, the contests, her own Rivals, Drew and Harley, etc. For some reason I think Something's gonna happen to Ash and May'll become the main character, but who knows?

What do you guys think will happen after May aqquires her last 3 ribbons in the Kanto Contests? I think she'll probably win this one, and will probably beat Drew. Also, her Pokemon have done a lot of work in contests too. Like, how did Squirtle become so good in contests? and it learned Ice Beam already. Plus, May got an Eevee, one of the most favoured Pokemon of all. She also got Munchlax, the first 4th Generation Pokemon to appear in the anime.

When she came back in Kanto, I would of thought she would have some different clothes... But I guess she didn't. XD Another addition to her in Kanto, her Pokedex. I wonder if it has anything different from Ash's Pokedex, seeing as hers is a creamish colour unlike any other Pokedexes which are red.

Anyways, back to the Grande Festival, I think she could win this one.. She has become a much better trainer from way back in the first few Hoenn episodes. And for after the Grande Festival, I somehow think that Her or Max will go back to the Petalburg Gym and become Gym Leader there cause something may have happened to their dad, but it's just a thought.

So what do you guys think about May?

I wouldn't say May's stealing spotlight from Ash. She is the co-star of AG with Ash. She of course is more important than Misty. I dont see her winning the GF. We dont know specifics of how Squirtle managed Ice beam but, I suspect it was passed on to it from its mother or father.
Anyway May's alright I guess. Her saga is alot more interesting IMO than Ash's quest so far.

She isn't my favorite character, but I don't see her leaving any time soon. I do agree that she is taking the spotlight from Ash and I find that annoying. I'm getting kind of tired of all the Harukaphilia, but that's another subject altogether. I don't think she's going to win the Grand Festival, however. Ash has never won a League and the Grand Festival is supposed to be equivalent to that, right?

Ash HAS one the Orange Islands leagu though. And Besides, Contests are much different from Gym Battles.

I don't really consider the Orange League a major "league" and I'm saying that the Grand Festival is supposed to be on the same level as the Leagues. Unless they want to prove that the Almighty May is superior to Ash, which would annoy the hell out of me, but *shrugs*

Considering for the first 5 seasons all the writers shoved down our throats was ASH, ASH, ASH I'm GLAD that we finally have another major character.

Ash is one of my favorite characters but I can't see how anyone is disappointed that he has to share the spotlight with someone now. He's had 276 episodes as the star of the series. I'm glad that we finally have a female character who gets a major story arc like he does.

I'm glad they finally made an "Ash" character for girls, because it's exactly what the show needed. May's Contests are what have made AG so enjoyable, and I like the way the show is kind of split between shonen and shoujo now with Ash and May's seperate storylines.

And no, May won't be winning the Grand Festival anytime soon. I expect her to lose as many times as Ash has.

Well, I think she'll stay around for awhile, unfortunitly.

I think some of more annoying things about her is that she's a girl verson of early series Ash. Heck, she even wins many battles like him too[Super Skitty be damned]. Also, she's pretty much Mrs. Advertisment too.

The whole show is an advertisment, so that last part is counted for everyone. Why do you think Ash is suddenly battling the Frontier Brains? To *gasp* advertise Emerald!

Why do Brock and James have D/P Pokemon? To *gasp* advertise D/P!

*GASP* the anime is made to be a counterpart to the game.

Everything about her is 3rd-gen, though: The design, the quest, even the Pokémon until recently...

So unless she stops travelling with Ash, she can never win since Ash is already two losses ahead of her.

Well, I have no problem with Ash facing the Frontier Brains, because it's a given that he'd fight them. And James and Brock getting those two Pokemon isn't bad ether, especially in Brock's case since it's the first ever Rock Pokemon he's ever gotten in the whole series.

It's just that the whole advertising thing is really obvious on May I can count the many reasons why.......

She's the female hero of Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald.

She just so happens to complete in contests, which are a new feature in the 3rd Generation.

She caught a Bulbasaur, just about at the time Fire Red and Leaf Green came out in Japan.

Also to add on that, she just recently got a Squrtle , which also can be got in Fire Red and Leaf Green.

We can't forget about her Munchlax ether. He's there for the 4th Generation.

And of course, her most recent Pokemon, Eevee. It of course is a popular Pokemon that's the starter Pokemon in Pokemon Colossuem and XD.

I still don't see Eevee as a Colosseum/XD advertisement, the writers don't even acknowledge that those games exist. I see Eevee as just another popular Kanto Pokemon that the writers always wanted a main character to have (remember when Misty wanted to keep Eevee?) but they never had the chance until now.

Since we're in Kanto, and May only had 3 Pokemon, they finally decided to give Eevee to a main character in the group. I just hope there are no D/P Eevee forms, because...blah.

I meant the baseline, the whole plot up to the 6th season was Ash going to more gyms and battling Gym Leaders, it kinda was time for something else. and Vinny.. the Frontier thing.. I was saying that The Battle Frontier is in Emerald. Because Misty_Lover was saying that the only reason contests were in the anime were cause of Ruby and Sapphire.

The thing I don't like about May taking the spotlight away from Ash is that I don't really think it's all that balanced at this point. They've already made contests more difficult than they should be by including the battle angle, and to top things of they've given her more victories than Ash could ever have hoped to have had in early Kanto. They seem to be trying to make May superior to Ash, not equal, which bothers me.

They changed the contests because let's face it, the contests in the games just plain suck. They're just a bunch of crappy appeals. The writers included battling in the anime contests to actually make it interesting. You don't think anybody watches the Contests for the appeals do you? I wouldn't be surprised if the D/P contests are altered to make them like the anime ones.

The writers have changed the Contests drastically from the games to make them more like Ash's quest. Battling in the contests, winning 5 ribbons, and the Grand Festival were all created for the anime to make them interesting.

Ash still gets more screentime than May I believe, and his leagues are longer. :/

Well, I wonder what new Pokemon she could capture. Eevee was a surprize. It's definity a unique Pokemon. I bet she'll get an Espeon in the future, since it fits her girly girl nature.

May won't leave because fans of anime love her. If she really wins Grand Festival, she won't leave also. Johto was really boring so writers put May and now she is a star of the show, teenagers have a crush on her, she has a lot of fan clubs, fan sites, galleries etc. Misty's fans don't like her that much because they would love to see Misty again, but question is: what would Misty do? She would be Ash's fangirl again. Nobody has an idea for her next goal so they will keep May.

About her Eevee. Probably it will evolve into new D/P evolution.
