Many users on this forum strike me as the type to have played the series religiously since it's initial release.
After you've played every game since Red/Blue, the experience might sort of blur for you. You've probably already hit the point where you feel like you know everything, where every useless Pokemon fact is cataloged in the back of your head ready to be randomly spouted off (much to your embarrassment in front of non-Pokemon obsessed friends.)

But every once in a while, there's the chance you'll run into some feature that surprises you.

For example, only about 2 weeks ago did I learn that if you press Y on the box menu under the Move option, your cursor will turn gold and you can quickly move Pokemon without having to use the menu. Or that by using the same trick, you can drag-select mass groups of Pokemon to re-organize entire boxes at once, or just small clumps. It's saved me a lot of time since I've learned, and I'm glad I was randomly mashing buttons, because that feature was never explained to me.

Sometimes even the veterans have something to learn. What are some things that, even in your infinite knowledge, have come out of the blue and shocked you in the world of Pokemon?

Well, here I am reading this thread, and I just learned a new trick to try out in my box when I play later!

Oh yes, definitely. Just 2 weeks ago I learned that struggle hits ghost pokemon. I learned this while fighting a shiny Beldum that I chained. I threw about 6*10^10,000 balls at it, and it finally woke up and struggled itself to death. What's more, my Gengar ran out of hypnosis PP and I had no ethers. I master balled the next one and called it a day.

Lol,you like overreacting don't you? 10^100 already is too much for a graphical calculator to handle xD (it gets an overflow error)

No, I actually threw that many at it. I know it seems hard to believe, but that's what happened. I am, after all, The Missingno.

Wow, that's a really neat trick. I had no idea that feature existed. Cool, very useful.

OHMYGOSH! That is so cool...Sucks that you can't select individual Pokemon from different spots in the box to move at once...

Usually I go looking for stuff to find out. The kind of thing like, "what if I transform into Origin Forme Giratina", and such. Heck, when I was testing that, I found out that nothing besides Giratina could hold the Griseous Orb anyway.

I very only recently learnt the whole Select + Item in bag + directional arrow = quick movement method.

I wonder what would happen if you had Ditto transform into Origin Forme Giratina at the encounter in the Distortion World?

I've played pokemon since the first grade and I'm just now learning about EV training and the benefits of breeding. Pokerus was news to me when I first signed on here. I've got a LOT to learn.

I'm pleased to see other people just as surprised as I was over this feature. I had the sneaking suspicion it would be news here, since most of my Pokemon obsessed friends also did not know if it. It saves a lot of time and am glad you are now aware of this helpful little shortcut. ^.^

I discovered this as well shortly after beginning. I was trying to find quick ways to navigate the ATROCIOUS items pocket, and this is by far the fastest way to get around. Though, it doesn't work if you select a Pokemon and then the Give option. Only in your inventory menu.
I really, really hope there will be PC item storing in HG/SS for just this reason. It's a mess.

Same here. EV training was just a big word to me before I started browsing here, and though I knew what the Pokerus was, I had never had it until recently with the dawn of the GTS.

I didn't know about EV training untill I signed up here and bought platinum. I also (even though I've played gens I-IV) never knew that shiny pokemon could be found in the wild untill I bought Platinum.

I'd like to think I know quite a bit about pokemon, I even knew about the clicking y in the boxes thing. There are however a few things I have learned recently...

1. Gravity reduces all pokemon's evasion stat by 2 levels for the 5 turns it is active. To put this in perspective that means an unboosted dynamic punch hits about 82% of the time, and anything with 60% or better pretty much hits every time...
2. I just learned about acid rain... fun stuff, but I think it is stupid that people build teams around it.

Fun Question: I haven't tried this so I'm not even 100% sure of the answer but I think I know.

Say player 1 in a double battle leads with Alakazam and Regigigas. What player 2 leads with doesn't really matter but we'll say Ambipom and Scizor... Ambipom uses Fake out on Regigigas. Next Alakazam uses Skill Swap on Regigigas and gives Regigigas Inner Focus (one of Alakazam's abilities). Does Regigigas flinch?

I'll check that for you Chari.
I'm ashamed to admit it, but i had no clue that water resisted steel until a month ago.

I was like o_O! when I discovered that Miltank and Kangaskhan have this ability called Scrappy that enables them to hit any ghost type with any normal and fighting attack.

It turns out I don't know as much as I think. For example before joining this sight, I had no idea what EV's were, I didn't even know that a Porygon could breed with a Ditto, etc. Heck, I didn't even know about the Regis existence before I started using bulbapedia a long time ago. xD

I just tried out this little box trick today. Very useful, very useful indeed. And, before I joined Bulbagarden, I had no idea about EVs, IVs, and all that stuff. It took me a while to learn. :p

That's too complicated for me to even pretend to know the answer.
You just inspired me to research abilities, however, particularly with Skill Swap in mind. I always thought he was useless because of his detrimental ability, but maybe there's hope.

That might help out a Buneary with Klutz as well, since it can still hold the item before battle...

Glad you find it useful. ^.^

And yeah, I still don't know how to manipulate IV's.

@ValentineRain - There really isn't much you can do to manipulate IV's. The first thing you can do is just catch a lot of whatever pokemon you want and use the best one. A slightly more controlled way is through breeding. Some IV's are passed down through breeding. The offspring takes 3 IV's at random from the parents. It takes one IV from the mother, one from the father, and the 3rd is taken from either the mother or the father at random. The other 3 IV's are random. So if you have a 2 pokemon, both 31 IV's in Attack, about 1/3 of the offspring should have a 31 IV in Attack. Breeding for IVs is a long and boring process... in my opinion its not worth and I've done it before. I've bred parents with good IVs and usually just keep offspring that just don't have terrible IVs. I may breed for 1 specific IV but almost never more than that. For example, a good chunk of the pokemon in my trick room team have 0 IV in speed (my level 50 shuckle has 9 speed!!!)
