Meaning of the mark.

I have seen this in so many animes,there this swirly mark on the fingers of many characters which only shows when they are pointing it at someone what does it mean?

That's what I thought it was too (it's basically just looking at an up-close view of their finger, so why not see their fingerprint?)

I'd wager it's a visual gag, much like x's are used for dented or protruding "questionable areas" and how belly-buttons stick out on the nonserious characters. Swirly eyes are in the same category.

I think they're fingerprints. They're just there for fun, I guess.

That is what i used to think but red colour for a fingerprint seemed weird.
