Most of the Pokémon characters' names have fairly straightforward meanings: Hikari means light, Kasumi means mist, and so on. I was just reading Diamond and Pearl Adventure, and I was wondering the same about the names of the main characters. I didn't know of any similar Japanese words that the name could come from, so I looked online, but that didn't help at all. Does anyone know what the names Hareta and Mitsumi mean?

"Hareta" means "has become clear/sunny" (as in weather).

"Mitsumi" I would guess is derived from "mitsu," another reading for hikari/light.

Then Romaji.org and Wiktionary would be wrong. Trust me, I know what I'm talking about.

So since "mi" can mean "beautiful", the name Mitsumi most likely means "beautiful light". Rather ironic if you consider her past.
