MediaWiki 1.6 has been released. We will be upgrading shortly - feel free to read the release notes if you wish and, or plan any experiments with new features.

New features worth considering are Captcha confirmation for edits (it is unlikely that we will employ them) and default values for parameters.

The test site is now online. Your Bulbapedia user accounts and passwords have been copied over. Please report any problems you encounter in this thread.

I wonder what features this expanded Protect/Unprotect form will have. Perhaps it will incorporate some sort of access list, possibly by username or IP address. I also think that it might also have a setting where you can protect certain parts of the page, not necessarily the whole page. Anyway, i'll have to see this for myself...I think i'll run a test wiki on my localhost.

As on Wikipedia, it allows you to protect from anonymous, from new users, and from non-sysops. (This functionality already existed to some extent within the code in 1.5, but no interface existed.)

Bump.

If there are no problems reported - the main sites will be converted to 1.6 on Tuesday.

Test site is now offline. All sites have been upgraded to MediaWiki 1.6.2.
