Mega Charizard Y joins the fray December 19th!
Mega Charizard Y is the latest Pokémon to join the fray in Pokémon UNITE. Mega Charizard Y is a separate Unite License from Charizard's regular Unite License. It is a Melee All-Rounder with Novice difficulty that deals Physical damage. It can Mega Evolve for a short while after using its Unite Move Seismic Slam.

To celebrate the introduction of Mega Evolution Unite licenses, Pokémon UNITE will hold a special event from Friday, December 19th, to Thursday, January 8th, in which players can complete designated missions to earn the Unite license for Mega Charizard Y. After the event, Mega Charizard Y’s Unite license will be available at the Unite Battle Committee shop in exchange for Aeos gems.

Mega Charizard Y is the last of four Mega Evolution Pokémon joining the fray this year, with Mega Lucario, Mega Charizard X, and Mega Gyarados debuting on September 28th, October 4th, and December 5th, respectively. The licenses for these Pokémon will be treated distinctly from regular Unite licenses, allowing players on the same team to be able to select both Charizard and Mega Charizard Y, and so on. Mega Evolution Unite license Pokémon will also be limited to a single fixed moveset, and be limited to two held item slots, with one occupied by the appropriate Mega Stone. Holowear owned by the standard Unite license will be shared with the Mega Evolution Unite license; however, Pokémon will not wear Holowear after Mega Evolving in battle.

Mega Charizard Y starts off as Charmander, and evolves into Charmeleon at level 5, and then into Charizard at level 7, and can Mega Evolve for a short time after using its Unite Move. As Charizard, it has the ability Blaze, which increases the allows it to deal increased damage upon receiving damage itself. As Mega Charizard Y, its Ability changes to Drought, which strengthens the sunlight around itself, and deals increased damage inside the sunny area of effect.

Mega Charizard Y's first move slot consists of Flame Burst, which can upgrade into Flamethrower. Flame Burst deals damage by attacking with a bursting flame, and leaves opposing Pokémon burned and increases the user's movement speed. Flamethrower deals damage with an intense blast of fire, leaving opponents burned and increasing the user's movement speed for a short time. On Mega Evolving, the user's movement speed is increased further.

Fire Spin encircles opposing Pokémon in a vortex of fire, dealing damage over time and decreasing opponents' movement speed for a short time. Fire Blast damages opponents over time by blasting intense, all-consuming fire, and decreasing their movement speed for some time. On Mega Evolving, this move's area of effect is increased.

Mega Charizard Y's Unite Move is Seismic Slam, which has the "Sure Hit" effect. The user grabs an opposing Pokémon and slams it into the ground from the air. After using this Unite Move, the user Mega Evolves and can move freely over obstacles for a short while.
