Mega Evolution—Pitch Black expansion for the Pokémon TCG announced for release on July 17th, featuring cards from the Japanese Abyss Eye expansion

The next Pokémon Trading Card Game expansion in the Mega Evolution Series has been officially announced in a press release by The Pokémon Company International. Mega Evolution—Pitch Black will release internationally from July 17th. The set will primarily contain cards from the Japanese Abyss Eye expansion, which releases there late next month on May 22nd.

Pitch Black is the fifth main expansion of cards for the Mega Evolution Series. It is the first main set to be based on the Mega Dimension DLC of Pokémon Legends: Z-A, and the fourth overall to be based on the video game. The central Pokémon featured in this set include Mega Darkrai ex, Mega Excadrill ex, Mega Chandelure ex, and Mega Zeraora ex.

Players and collectors can expect the set to include the following:

• A total of over 115 new cards
• 6 Mega Pokémon ex
• 5 Pokémon ex
• More than 20 Trainer cards
• 35 full art cards, including:
  • 11 illustration rate Pokémon
  • 18 ultra rare Mega Evolution Pokémon ex, Trainer, and Energy cards
  • 6 special illustration rare Pokémon and Supporter cards

Physical pre-release tournaments for this set will begin from July 4th at participating locations worldwide. As usual, Mega Evolution—Pitch Black will also be available for players of the Pokémon TCG Live app one day ahead of the physical release, on July 16th.

Mega Evolution—Pitch Black will be available across the typical variety of formats, including a variety of collections. This set's Elite Trainer Box features a light grey Mega Darkrai on a swirly background of greys and blacks, and includes nine boosters together with the usual assortment of energy cards, card sleeves, and other gameplay accessories, as well as an illustration-rare style promo card of arude. A Pokémon Center edition of this Elite Trainer Box will also be available, which includes all the contents of the regular Elite Trainer Box plus two additional booster packs, and an additional illustration-rare style promo card of Zarude with a Pokémon Center logo.
