I've got an Onix I wanna make into a Steelix. Guides say that the Metal Coat is on Iron Island, but I went through it and didn't find it - where is it?

It's definitely on Iron Island. If you haven't found it by picking up Pokeballs then try the Item Finder, but it's defo there.

Alternatively just hunt down wild Bronzor, Bronzong, Steelix, Magnemite and Beldum and try and pick one off of those.

But that would require teaching someone Thief, and I like to hoard TMs until I'm sure I wanna use 'em...

You could just catch half a dozen of them. Chances are you'd pick up at least one or two Metal Coats - and hey, maybe even in the process pick up a decent natured Pokemon.

Go into the house on Iron Island; Byron is there and he gives it to you. However, I don't know what triggers his appearance; I checked after I defeated the Champion.

Alternatively, if you haven't leveled up the Onix or anything yet, you could catch a wild Steelix.

They have those on Iron Island (IIRC) and in Victory Road (definitely).

They do have them on Iron Island. But I want to evolve her for battling, not for the 'dex entry.

Linoone learns Covet and Alakazam learns Trick naturally, so you don't need to TM anyone Thief.

Yeah

Yeah It's true after beating the e4 go to iron island go into the house and that guy gives it to you, I just got it, Im going to evolve me adament scyther.

It's after getting the natonal dex,not beating the E4.He wasn't there until I got the national dex(I checked after beating the e4).

Actually, the way to get Byron to appear isn't just having the national Dex. You need to have used the Lunar wing to help the sick girl in Canalave city first. After that, then he appears. ;)

The metal coat is also held by wild Magnemite, Magneton*, Beldum, Metang*, Metagross*, Bronzor, Bronzong, and Magnezone*.

*Wild versions of these Pokemon only occur through hacking.
