Mew's real life counter-part

While I was browsing wikipedia I came across the kangaroo rat which looks nearly identicle to mew, even the end of its tail is enlarged.
 
Mew's... a cat. In case you didn't notice from the name. Raichu's more based on a kangaroo rat.
 
Even if mew is like a cat, its more based of a feoutes (sp?) which is where life starts forming, a.k.a why it can learn any move and is supposidly the ancestor of nearly all pokemon (minus the ones Arceus created and groudnon/kyogre which were born from the world)

So... exactly why can't it be based on a cat foetus? Or even cat baby?
 
Well, he has a point but it really is a feline-ish creature.
 
Compromise:

It's a floating fetus-cat.
