Hello! I have done a rewrite of my entry from the 2024 Fall One Shot Contest. My reason: It could have been much better than it was. Due to writer's block and not coming up with the idea until like a couple of days before the deadline, it was honestly kind of rushed. Here it is:
=======================================================
One fine autumn day, Carol Anne is organizing the picture scrap books that have been made by members of the Ghost Type Pokémon Club, some of which she made. She is also one of the club's photographers who go out to take pictures of ghost type Pokémon. The club is one of 18 around the academy, each dedicated to a different type. While there are rivalries and pranks between clubs, it's all in the name of harmless fun. Each club has a Pokemon mascot that matches their type. The Ghost Type Pokemon Club's mascot is Trevenant as it's the favorite of club founder, Chris. As she shelves the last one, Chris, approaches her.

"Carol Anne, I have an assignment for you," he says.
"What is it?" she asks.
"I was informed by some friends that they found some ruins near Medali. I want you to go and see if you can get any pictures to add to our collection," he replies.
"I think I know of the ruins they are talking about. Would make sense for Ghost Types to hang out there," she says with a nod.
"Just be careful of any Litwick. Remember what happened at that mansion in Eterna Forest?" he asks.
"I will. I didn't enjoy that at all," she says, shuddering and rubbing her arms as she remembers what happened:

"I got you, just hold on!" Chris shouts as he clings to the bedroom door frame to keep from getting pulled into the portal in the closet. In front of the door is a trio of Liwick.
"I can't! I… I'm starting to slip!" Carol Anne shouts fearfully as her grip on the whicker headboard starting to fail as the force causes the headboard to start breaking. She looks over her shoulder at the closet, the portal spinning violently while ominous lights flicker within. She can feel the pull of the wind tunnel that emanates from the strange ghostly purple portal.

"Trevenant, use Shadow Punch!" Chris shouts as he pushes the button on his poke ball. The Elder Tree Pokémon appears and, with a ghostly roar, thrusts out its fist as if throwing a punch. A shadowy fist is then launched towards the Litwick. The three attempt to dodge, but the shadow splits into three smaller ones and hit anyway, knocking all three out and breaking their concentration on the portal. The headboard breaks at the same time the portal closes, causing Carol Anne to fly backwards, though Trevenant catches her before she hits the floor. After a moment to catch his breath, Chris looks at Carol Anne," Come on. We're heading home," he said.

Carol Anne walks over to her locker and grabs her backpack off of the hook before also grabbing her camera and putting it into the top pocket along with her Lampent themed flashlight. "Looks like Amy was able to fix the zipper. Stupid Tinkatink," she mutters as she puts her back on her back. After tightening the straps, she walks through the common area of the club and out the door and makes her way to the main entrance to the academy. Outside, she calls a taxi to give her a lift to Medali.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Sometimes I wish I was back in Galar. At least Corviknight is less annoying than Squawkabilly," Carol Anne mutters as she steps out of the taxi once it landed at Medali. "Such a lovely day compared to last time I was here," she says as she walks along the sidewalk.

Carol Anne walks along until she arrives at the Treasure Eatery, one of her favorite places to go. "Can I get a… Great Veggie Sandwich to go?" She asks the cashier.
Of course," The cashier says with a smile.

Hearing a voice behind her as she waits, she turns to see her friend, Zelda, standing there.
"Hi! Been a while!" Carol Anne exclaims as she embraces her friend and mentor.
"Indeed it has been, dear. What are you doing today?" she asks.
"I am checking out some ruins to take pictures of Ghost Types for the Ghost Type Pokemon Club," Carol Anne replies.
Zelda nods with a smile. "I see they still have the type-themed clubs. I remember when I was part of the Rock Type Club before I graduated," she says.

The two continued talking until Carol Anne's sandwich was ready. Zelda offers to pay for her as she still owed her lunch. Afterwards, Carol Anne heads out of Medali towards the ruins. As the sun dips behind the below the hill, she arrives at the ruins of a stone church. "Looks like their kind of haunt for sure," she says as she looks around.

Looking around, she spots a flat patch of dirt near some trees. "That looks like a spot to set up camp," she says as she walks over to the spot. She pulls her tent from her bag and sets it up. She also pulls a small folding seat and sets it up under the tree. "Now I wait," she says as she sits down to eat her sandwich, unaware of a doglike Pokémon wandering around near the building. One with a strange ghostly candle-like object on its head.

At quarter to midnight, the alarm on Carol Anne's phone goes off. Carol Anne lets out a groan as she shuts off the alarm, the light from the phone almost blinding her. She then sits up and stretches before climbing out of her Shuppet themed sleeping bag. Pulling her camera and flashlight from her bag, she leaves the tent to see that the area is lit up thanks to the moonlight of a full moon.

"Ok. Time to check out the place and see if I can find Ghost Types. I would like to get a better Mismagius picture since the last one I took was of one far away," she mutters as she turns on her flashlight.

She approaches the front of the stone structure and peers inside, shining her flashlight around as she does. As she steps inside, a sound causes her to jump. She turns her flashlight in that direction with a shout. "Oh, it's just a Mimikyu… Just a Mimikyu," She mutters after a taking a few deep breaths. She snaps a picture as the Disguise Pokémon scurries away. Suddenly, she hears a strange ghostly bark. "What was…?" She looks around for the source, but sees nothing.

Continuing inside, she looks around the building. It's a large room with a raised platform at the back. "I wonder what this place was used for---" she says only to stop as she is hit by a sudden chill. Her heart starts pounding as the air grows cold enough that she can see her own breath. She pans around the area slowly, knowing that a certain Pokémon is nearby.

Spotting movement out of the corner of her eye, she spins around and snaps a picture of a Gengar as it zips off from behind a tree outside the ruined area. "Called it. There was a Gengar around. I remember someone saying that if there is a sudden chill, a Gengar is probably nearby. Glad it didn't attack me. Didn't like the last time I encountered one," she mutters.

As she continues looking around, she hears the bark again. "Where is that coming from?" As she passes a window, she spots something glowing on the ground outside. "Is that…? Is that a Litwick?" She asks. Heading back outside, she approaches the spot slowly and carefully. "Is it a…?" She asks as she looks at the candle-like object, which burns with a small purplish-yellow light.

Suddenly, there is a burst of dust and dirt. Carol Anne shouts in surprise as she falls backwards. After a moment, she looks up to see a quadrupedal Pokémon. The body is covered in long shaggy fur. Its snout peeks out from under the hair covering most of its head.

After catching her breath, she smiles. "You are so cute!" She exclaims as she watches it run around. After a moment, it grabs a stick and drops it at Carol Anne's feet, its thin wispy tail wagging.

"You want to play? OK," Carol Anne says as she picks up the stick. She throws the stick and as it runs to go get it, she snaps a picture of it. The Pokémon runs back and again drops the stick at her feet. As she reaches down and picks it up, she starts to feel tired. "Man…why am I…suddenly so…tired?" She asks. She tosses the stick, though not as far this time. "Looking for Ghost Types…really sucks the life out of…" she mutters before passing out.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Carol Anne wakes up with a groan. After laying there for a bit, she can see that she is back inside her tent and the sun has come up. She slides out of her sleeping bag and unzips the tent flap. Stepping outside, she sees Zelda is now there with her tent set up nearby. Zelda's Garganacl, Basalt, lumbers around the perimeter of the camp.

On the table is a pair of sandwiches, one of which Zelda already too come bites out of while waiting for Carol Anne. She can see that her chair has been from its original spot under the tree to the table.

"Morning, dear," Zelda says with a warm smile as Carol Anne approaches the table.
"Hello. Uh…What happened?" she asks as she sits at the table and picks up a sandwich.
"Well, my dear, you are very fortunate that I had come to check on you. That Greavard was draining your Life Force, though it seemed like it was not a malicious one. Looked friendly," Zelda replies.

Carol Anne nods. "It wanted me to throw a stick for it. How long has it been?" Carol Anne asks.
"Since I found you, dearie, it's been a few hours. I don't know how long you were laying there. While Basalt scared off the Greavard with its Mud Shot, I was concerned I was too late. I carried you back to your tent and checked your vitals to ensure that you were still alive. Thankfully, here you are," Zelda replies with a smile.
"Do all Greavard do that? I know there are other Ghost Types that do," Carol Anne says.
Zelda shakes her head. "Not all of them. They can be trained to not do that. As can other Ghost Types,"

"I… thought it was a Litwick. Glad it wasn't honestly," Carol Anne says.
"Oh? Did something happen involving one?" Zelda asks.
Carol Anne nods. "Three of them almost pulled me into a portal to the spirit realm a few months ago at the old mansion in Eterna Forest over in the Sinnoh Region. Chris did save my life. We're even now since I saved him from some Frillish," Carol Anne said.
"I would be careful around Litwick and Greavard from now on," Zelda said.
Carol Anne nods with a smile before taking another bit of her sandwich.
"Well, best if we finish eating so we can get you back," she adds.
Carol Anne nods as she takes another bite of her sandwich. Once the two have finished eating and packed everything up, they went back to Medali and got a taxi back to Mezagoza.
