For some reason lately I've had poetry on the brain. So why not actually write them down and share them. Here's two to start off with:

Leader
Lovely not like a swan, but like a jaguar.
Energetic not like a rabbit, but like a lion.
Amusing not like a monkey, but like a tiger.
Daring not like a dog, but like a cougar.
Earnest not like an owl, but like a leopard.
Reliable not like an animal, but like you.

Will You Wait For Me?

Will you stand in the rain,
Even if it never enters the drain.

You who I cannot tame,
Even in a game.

Wait for me only,
Even if it is lonely.

For the others who try to get you to go,
Even if you want to, just tell them no.

Me who tries to make you hate me,
Even though I wish for you to love me.

Will you wait for me?

How To Tell If A Book Is Loved
A book with perfect pages
No mars, tears, or crinkles
Is not loved.

A book that is loved shows it

It has crumbs in the cracks.
So good
That it joined meal time.
A book that is loved

Has spots on pages.
From a drink that was near it
Or from hands just washed.

A book that is loved

Has ripped pages.
Some small
Some big.

A book that is loved

Has crinkles.
From pages that are bent
And from pages that are folded.

A book that is loved

Has stains on it.
From food
Drinks
And other strange things.

A book that is loved

Will never be perfect.
It will never look brand new.

Because a book that is loved

Is taken everywhere.
It suffers like us
But like us it is happy.

Because a book that is loved

Bears scars from the love.

Owls
Openly flying everywhere, day or night.
Who is not the question they all ask.
Lovely in flight whether to hunt or alight.
Strong in the night, weak in the day when the crows come to play.

The Best Christmas Present
Young
Playful and energetic
Cutely sleeping in the arms of a bear
Ribbons, snakes, and pink footballs
She loves to tear.

Middle Age
With looks that say Mommy is crazy
Lazing around when then the weather isn't hazy.
Scared of the storms that come her way
Happy when mommy wants to play.

Psychic link to know when its mommy at a door
No fear for an stranger that may come to war.
Warm and soft, and horrible breath
Whining for food and treats even when it makes stains on the bed.

Cuddling when mommy wants to
Whining when mommy leaves for too long
Giving mommy kisses of love
Everyday brightening mommy's day.

Old-aged
Is the one that's scary
Because with it comes with the possible
The possible fact that one day she will leave
And leave mommy all alone

The best Christmas Present for mommy ever
At four am in the desert night
A gift that brightens mommy's day everyday
No matter the plight.
And a day without her, is one that is sad.

Preadolescence
That time before we are teens
When we are still children
And yet not

An age right before
One could marry
Younger than Juliet in her story

An age of heroes
The start of their journeys
The beginning of their stories

Harry Potter
Percy Jackson
Gregor the Overlander

Lina Mayfleet
Klaus Baudelaire
Artemis Fowl

Examples of this time
So different from us
And yet so like us

The time right before we ascend
From children to teenagers
That start of a leg to adulthood

That time when we start
The periods
And hair

Our last bit of childhood
The time of beginnings to destines
Preadolescence

Penitence
He watched the water run down the now red drain
Feeling no penitence at what he had done
No penitence at opening the door
To the house
To the bathroom
To the shower.

No penitence as he grabbed
The shower head
Her head.

No penitence
At the struggle
At the banging
At the wrapping

Nothing
Staring down
And seeing nothing

Nothing
Nothing as the play ended
And he the audience clapped
Even though he was not content with the performance.
