Bulbapedia says that it is based on German Sheppards(I see that) and Hyena(Only because of the name?)

I have suspicions that it is not based on a Hyena, it just got it's name for a "Cool factor". I believe it looks more like a Black Backed Jackel. The main picture on Wikipedia artical for Jackals looks an awful lot like Mightyena, including the black back and facial construction.
