Team Rocket - by this I mean a big showdown with Giovanni, and the Team Rocket HQ. The writers now suck, but imagine in Indigo before they copped out and had Mewtwo destory the Team Rocket HQ - I bet that would have been a nice dark mysterious story ark in Indigo.

People would say then what would be the end of Jessie/James. I think Jessie and James could have easily just stayed as Team Rocket rebuilding it, and even have James join Team Magma while Jessie Joins Team Aqua and they still travel together trying to best each other.

Kyroge/Groundon...ugh enough said, what a serious waste...

what do you guys think??

I know of a missed opportunity. Most of the Battle Frontier season. I mean, we could have at least revisted SOME of the filler characters and Gym Leaders.

I thought that whole showdown between magma and aqua was a missed opportunity. TR could've called their boss about the legends, have him send over his army for a massive showdon to end all showdowns. But no, they sat on a rock and got blown by an angry Pikachu.

Yep, this topic pretty much lost it's purpose. *shot*

I will say, right now, Ashachu. A concept that wasn't used before until Gen III with the PMD series, and they do pretty much nothing with him. I'm sure Lisa, if she's reading this, can agree with me in saying not only do they need to bring him back, but they needed to do some more on him than what they did.

And pretty much a portion of Johto. =)

Not naming "Weekend Warrior" "Rock Star: In Contest".

I can never forgive them for that.

Brock's character himself is wasted potential. To think he's been around for 11 years and he's barely changed at all from Season 1. :)

Seconded.

Yep, I agree with you 100%! =D

Ashachu definitely deserves a reappearence, and I don't care how it happens, just so long as we get to see Ashachu again. ^_^

Jnoo is right, they DO need to do something more with Ashachu...he could become a Pikachu again and be seperated from his friends and have only Pikachu with him (and then, they might run into Meowth who could've gotten seperated from Jessie and James). But yeah, my point is, that the possibilities with Ashachu are pretty much endless, and the writers could've done so much with that storyline.

I mean, I still don't understand why the writers would think of something THAT amazing in Johto, only to completely ditch the storyline in the next episode....it makes no sense to me.

Personally, I would've liked to have known what Ash truly thought of being a Pikachu, other than what little we got to see in the two episodes. (however, one could assume from those scenes that he enjoyed the experience, BUT he also felt weird and he really missed his human form too)

I think movie 9 was pretty much a wasted opportunity. I've ranted on this before, but Phantom especially. Why create a character with physical traits that reflect a specific vitally important heritage--in his case, the dark skin and blue hair of the People of the Water--and then not connect him with them in any way? It would have been incredibly more badass if he'd been one of them and gotten exiled or something. And they wouldn't have to be vague about how he got that special bracelet.

And not so much for the plot, but at least for balance and irony--if he'd been an ex-Aqua. We had an ex-Magma in 6, and being an Aqua could have at least made the Kyogre scene seem like less of a Deus Ex and more of a "he had it coming!"

Scott85 brought it up in the Johto trimming thread already, but Gary was a missed opporunity. To think that he was a fairly important character being Ash's rival and yet he barely showed up in Johto at all. It's also weird how he just magically seemed to do a 180 on his personality without any in-depth exploration of this change.

I'd also like to say Giovanni, but they still have an opportunity to utilize his character, even if they seemed to have forgotten about him. I mean, the Mewtwo plot couldn't be the only thing he was working on. In fact, people have been desiring to make the series darker. I say just give Giovanni a half-decent role and you've got a darker plot already.

I'd have Onix, Togepi, and Cyndiquil evolve In Johto. Ash would catch Noctowl as Hoothoot and evolve it. Mudkip wouldn't evolve. Brock would ditch Geodude when he came back from the Orange Islands. Combusken would evolve sooner. Dawn would have Aipom a little longer. Ash would catch Hippopotas instead of Turtwig.

I think it would've been really cool to see Silph Co. in Indigo League with Giovanni trying to take it over. They could've made a few episodes about that. Of course, Ash wouldn't be "allowed" to battle Giovanni but they could've made someone else battle him (I dunno, Lance popping up in his own region or something) or maybe Giovanni keeps his distance from being associated with crime and it's the grunts that are seen to have taken it over.

I'd also have Brock leave Foretress at Pewter gym instead of Ludicolo.
TR reciting their minute long motto every episode also gets tiresome.

I see you've mistaken "missed oppurtunity" with "scrapped plot".

They had it all planned out before, but they decided to drop it. A missed oppurtunity would actually be something that could have been expaneded upon but the writers never acted on it (either because they didn't think of it or didn't have enough time to).

Sorry to bump but I've been watching my Indigo Leage DVD set and antoher thing that bothered me is that they show random trainers in the Indigo Stadium...I don't see why Giselle, AJ, Joel, Kenji, and others that he met along the way couldn't be sprinkled into the trainers...or why couldn't we see some other characters he met in the crowd as well.

Really should have just had a filler episode of Ash running into some trainers he met at the village...but alas a wasted opportunity.

Ashachu and the GS Ball.

I don't care that they planned out a GS story, I still think they missed something by omitting it. Why not have Celebi in both the episode and movie.

Ashachu would've been epic. There's no telling where that storyline could've gone. Heck, it could've been made so that there was a chance that he couldn't turn back. Plus, he could've had a chance to get to know his Pokemon even more, especially Pikachu. I would've loved a few episodes with Ashachu.

i agree with the Giovanni/darker topic, and the Battle Frontier Topic.
those were defintely times when the anime could have been improved a lot. Out of the two i was less disappointed with the Battle Frontier. It seemed like they didn't even go to the original cities in the region.
Besides Giovanni, the Indigo league was definitely the most dark closest to your "typical japanese anime," along with being the most related to Japanese culture. I appreciate how the writers have decided to not just limit culture to Japanese, but others as well, but it seemed like the original eps/jap culture almost nvr showed up again. On the same not, even Johto had its darker moments like the ep with houndour, ecruteak city, and the weird one when the ppl were inside larvitar's dream. After Johto, everything seemed cheesier or pokemon just seemed less of a "special" anime. As for D&P, its almost all comedy and no memorable adventures/dark moments/character development(except for Dawn)...etc. I really would like to see another ep like Indigo's Stray Charmander, Ghost of Maiden's Peak, Abra Psychic Showdown, sparks for magnemite, and the pokemopolis one.
Also i was equally disappointed as well Gary never showed up in Advanced. Then he suddenly appears in at the end of advanced (which i think ash should have won the battle, it reminded me of the battle they had after the orange islands).

On a lighter side, i'm just gonna throw in some useless ones lol....
pokeshipping...
ash winning a league...

The Kyogre vs. Groudon arc and Team Aqua/Magma were definitely wasted opportunities. After Mt. Chimney Team Aqua/Magma pretty much appeared in three episodes (one in Weather Institute, other two in Kyogre vs. groudon arc). Also, instead of having the Kyogre vs. Groudon arc being some epic showdown that threatens the world we are instead stuck with a two parter. Seriously, just think of how the arc would have been if it was actually well done. Wasted potential here.
