One of the running gags throughout the original series is Misty's love of Tentacruel and that she thinks they are cute.

I just realised this may have been a big joke on the part of the writers. Could it be referencing certain tentacles in certain hentai... :naughty:
 
If they were referencing tentacle rape with Misty's love of Tentacool/Tentacruel, I think the target audience for Pokemon would have moved to adults (Hey, Hentai is NOT allowed on kids programs, even in Japan!)

No, I think it was just supposed to be a quirk of Misty.

No, it's not. If it was, then Pokemon's target demographic, even in Japan, would NOT be kids, but rather adults. Name me one OFFICIAL media in Japan (ie, NOT FAN-MADE) that is both geared to kids of the 5-8 year range and yet also has hentai in it?
 
It's called "Getting Crap Past the Radar". They're never going to show it, but it's a little in-joke for them. And anyone who figures it out.

Besides, Rule 34. It was going to happen anyway.

Also, the joke is that Kasumi loves a pokemon that most people find to be really fucking ugly and thinks it's cute. I thought that was really, really obvious.
 
It doesn't matter- that hasn't been referenced in a long time anyway.
 
Haha I knew it. If the show did have such things like tentacle rape and all the DS games would be hilarious. XD

Well yes of course. But anyone who knows about hentai may speculate there was a hidden in joke by the writers!
 
Just because Pokémon is for kids, doesn't mean that the writers can't sneak in a little joke.

Exactly. You know, as much as my mind is in the gutter, I never even considered there being another joke to it. :| It was just obvious what the real one was.
 
That's a huge stretch to assume her love of a Water Pokémon that has tentacles (like many sea creatures in real life) is something sexual. She also happens to love a lot of Water Pokémon that have penises (unless she has all girls... and Starus) but that doesn't mean anything sexual. Why would the Tentacruel be like that? I'm pretty sure there's no joke intended, and your mind is just in the gutter.

This could POSSIBLY be an inside joke. It is in the same way there's an ester egg in Runescape where you can see "the dirty outline of a penis" in the water. Some people have odd ways of thinking, some have odd ways of seeing.

If Pokemon had to be completely kid friendly, they couldn't have made ANY pokemon with tentacles for this reason. I think the writers know what goes on inside their fandom. I think IF this is the writers having a little fun, they deserve it. Everyone needs to laugh.

You do remember that people here have absolutely no sense of subtext or even wit and humor. They take everything at face value.

Hence why people are unbelievably obtuse sometimes.

This is more accurate. Fandoms can ruin more than just tentacles.

I do agree with you on this, I think that was the original intent of the joke. And not anything more than that.

Yeah there are some instances where they do try to get stuff under the radar, but this is'nt one of them.
 
-_-;; I doubt that was why she likes tentacruel. I doubt that they would have that on the anime (athough they did referrence it in the Electric Tale of Pikachu).
