Shippers and non-shippers are welcome to vote. I'm just curious about this.

Due to it being spawned by the dub, it seems a lot of people supposedly despise the song. Or so I've been told.

So i just want to know what the posters here think about it. I'd rather hear what actual Pokemon fans think of it and why you like/dislike it.
 
I like it, but mainly because I'm a pokeshipper. If I wasn't i'd prolly think the song is crap :/
 
I like it very much, not just because I'm a Pokeshipper. =P But I've heard a better version...
 
According to a member here (not throwing names) Misty in the original was more of a throwaway character like May was. Well, I think it was better to give her more character, such as this song.

Who was singing that?

I don't think it was ever in an episode. The YT video owner suggest 4kdis made it to complete Misty's character, something the original didn't fully do.

Then the song has no meaning to the series if it isn't a (somewhat) decent translation from a song that was in its place from the raw.

Exactly, just a fun little thing to put on a CD.
 
It was just pure fanservice for the romantics. The dub people thought the anime needed romance between the main characters so they did that.
 
Then I don't like it on the grounds that it is unfaithful to the raw. Following the link to the song, some commenters take it as fact.

So many things wrong with this particular one, especially as the dubbers were the ones who technically made a mistake.

Just because something isn't faithful to the raw, doesn't mean it can't be enjoyed.
 
Well, I don't think it's a "false illusion", 'cause the anime (and I'm talking about the raw, not just the dub) made it kind of obvious Misty had a crush on Ash.

But this is my opinion. Don't attack me.
 
The perception that PokeShipping is purely a 4Kids creation comes precisely from these extra pieces outside the anime that spell it out much louder than the show. But to be fair, extra songs that explore the characters are pretty common in the Japanese side of anime.


The problem with Misty's Song that it doesn't really capture the relationship in either version of the series. The suggestion is that Ash and Misty know they have feelings for each other but just can't bring themselves to express them. Maybe this is true in Misty's case but the very idea that Ash has been shy around Misty is just wrong. He mostly sees her as annoying/a normal friend.

And then on Misty's side, a later album gives us "He Drives Me Crazy" where Misty hasn't figured her feelings for Ash. Clearly, that can't match up.

"Under the Mistletoe" is the only Pokeshipping song that really captures their dynamic.

^ Yeah, I never actually noticed that it says "we both" in the song... And I admit that it's not quite true. But it's a good song anyway.

You make a good point. I had never heard the song before just now. (God bless YouTube) It really does better represent their relationship.
