There need to be loads more bug Pokémon. There aren't any ant Pokémon, cockroach, fly or mosquito. We need lots more.

For an ant Pokémon it could start off as a larval, then if it's male and has a high attack or something it becomes a soldier ant, if it's male and has a high HP or something it becomes a worker ant. If the larval is female (which would be very rare, like female Combee) it would become a queen ant.

While I wouldn't say we need loads more, we could use some of the ones you listed. And following the patterns of older games, we very well may.

So long as it is not Bug/Flying or Bug /Poison, some innovation cannot go amiss.

Yes let's make 30 bug type Pokemon, then they will never be used due to Stealth Rock.

We just need more stronger bug Pokémon if you as me.

Since ants live in the ground, they could easily be Bug/Ground.

Or bug/fire in the case of fire ants.

You're right there definitely needs to be more bug types. Maybe bug/electric?

Bullet ants could turn out pretty cool. Don't think anyone would want a cockroach, fly or mosquito.

Unless there's some sort of RL insect that emits/stores electric power, I doubt it.

Don't tell me they can't do it, they could make it half electric if they wanted to. It's pokemon, they aren't restricted by logic.

EDIT: That's a perfect example Ryuutakesh!

Thing is, we already have Volbeat and Illumise. Do we need any more fireflies?

Yes, because...

1) We need actual Bug/Electric lightning bugs
2) We need ones that don't suck

...which should be the premise for all future Bug Pokemon: Different type combinations and ones that don't suck.

Doing it Wrong
Surskit -> Masquerain
Wurmple -> Cascoon/Silcoon -> Duxtox/Beautifly
Volbeat
Illumise
Combee -> Vespiquen

Doing it Right
Heracross
Scyther -> Scizor
Pineco -> Forretress
Yanma -> Yanmega
Nincada -> Ninjask + Shedinja

We do need more bug pokemon, Instrutilus is running out of things to stalk LOL

How are these doing it wrong?

I think he means they're taking good concepts, and making crap Pokemon out of them, whereas things like Yanmega/Scizor etc are great Pokemon - we need more good Bug Pokemon.

How are these doing it wrong?

Surskit: Took an awesome combination (Water/Bug) and instead of evolving it to a strong Water/Bug stage, like you'd expect, they made it... another Bug/Flying type. Didn't make sense.

Wurmple and friends: The idea of evolving via natures was clever, but I'm not happy that they decided to go with they typical weak low level Bug concept again. At the very least, they could've made the last evolutions something OTHER than Bug/Poison and Bug/Flying, which we had a whole mess of already. The reason why these are 'Doing it Wrong' and not, say, Venonat/Venomoth, is because they're newer Pokemon. Meaning GF actually had the chance to make these Pokemon slightly more unique and seemingly tripped before the finish line.

Combee/Vespiquen: Actually, these are decent Pokemon. Vespiquen more so with Attack Order, Defend Order, Power Gem, and all of that. It's a mistake because... well, Bug/Flying and still not viable for heavy combat. But again, the concept is cool, it's about half-and-half.

Ah, understood. So really, Surskit is the one that was really done wrong. The others at least had concepts and ideas. It's just the final product that wasn't great.
