The NAOJ states that the exhibit is designed to “spark children’s interest in space, strengthen the talent pool which studies science, and increase overall support for basic science.” Visitors to the exhibit will find a learning and entertainment experience with an emphasis on exploration and discovery, and featuring mysterious Pokémon. The exhibit centers on Pokémon that are somehow connected to space and astronomy, like Cosmog, Deoxys, Minior, and the program’s mascot, Starry Sky Pikachu.
Most of the schedule details for Pokémon Astronomical Observatory are still to be announced, but there is a current list of upcoming locations. The exhibit’s grand opening will be at the Sagamihara City Museum in Kanagawa Prefecture on November 1st, where it will remain until January 12th, 2026. Visit the museum’s website for details regarding tickets and transportation.
Pokémon Astronomical Observatory will then travel to the following locations throughout 2026. Further details and any new locations will be announced here.
- Kenshin Koriyama Cultural Center - Spring 2026
- Kakuda Denen Hall - Summer 2026
- Toyohashi City Museum of Natural History - Autumn 2026
- Nagasaki Museum of History and Culture - Winter 2026
There will also be a somewhat large collection of merchandise available in conjunction with each museum’s hosting of the exhibit. Each location is scheduled to have the exact same merch, which will be available exclusively in-person at the exhibit. Sagamihara City Museum has already announced that purchases per person will be limited, ostensibly to avoid a similar situation to the Pokémon x Van Gogh collaboration from 2023.
