In the message you send to new forum members, you tell them to post in the Introductions forum...

I tell you what, *smirking* I spent about 45 minutes trying to find the 'Introductions' forum, then finally gave up and started posting on the Threads I was interested in. Today I finally realized that 'The Garden Grotto' was the equivalent of the 'Introductions' forum, but that wasn't extremely clear. My suggestion is to either change the message sent to new members listing the 'Garden Grotto' as the place to post hello, or make it more obvious that the 'Garden Grotto' is the 'Introductions' forum.

Great site and great forum. I'm really enjoying my time here so far.

For members, a place to stay informed about upcoming forum events and topics of interest regarding the site. For newcomers, a place to stand up and say hello!

Says right in its description.

to be honest, i couldn't find this forum when i first joined, either ;x i felt kind of stupid when i finally found it, but i agree that perhaps the fact that this is also an introduction forum be made a bit more obvious...i don't recall there being a direct link to this forum in the welcome message. maybe one could be placed there?

Are you kidding me? It's the SECOND forum from the top, all you had to do is read and you would have found it or you could have moved your eyes further to the right and there is almost always a title of a generic intro thread like "New here" or "Hello" etc.

um, no, i'm not kidding you. :| granted, i didn't take a whole 45 minutes (more like 5) to find this forum, but in the interests of people who did take a long time to find it and those who have yet to sign up...i just found it a bit strange that there was no direct link in the welcome message, since there usually is one, even on forums that are rather easy to navigate through.

The initial message says something like: "You're new, you should go post in the Introductions forum and say hello." That makes you want to look for a forum titled "Introductions" not Garden Grotto. I'm just trying help make this forum more new user friendly.

Personally I never saw the point in an intro thread. I just jumped right in and started discussing. One rule I stand by is to not make any new threads until I am sure that what I want to discuss has not been brought up yet.

So, yeah. If people know to make an intro board (and some don't) then all they have to do is look. Logic dictates this board would be at the top of the page and would be labeled as such. And the grotto is both.

This. Most of the introduction threads are anyway "my name is xyz123 i liek pokemon hi all". And if someone needs to know my personal information, they'll need to ask me, not just look it up from a random thread.

Please note: The thread is from 16 years ago.
Please take the age of this thread into consideration in writing your reply. Depending on what exactly you wanted to say, you may want to consider if it would be better to post a new thread instead.
