I hnoestly LOVED the first generation pokemon (anime and games), and the second was ok as well, dont like anything about the anime afterwards, BUT in every game, it would be awesome if u could have one than one save file, i mean i got all the pokemon in platinum, but ill have to delete everything to start a new file? that just sucks...agree or disagree? it would be a good feature in gen 5?

I've always wanted this. Problem is, data storage. They could probably easily store a half dozen Gen. I files on a DS size cart now, but a game like Platinum squeezes a bit as it is.

The only games that I can think of right off the bat to where you could have different game files are examples like Colosseum and XD. What it would be, is saving a game file to two different Gamecube memory cards. When my bro had first gotten Colosseum, that's what we did so that I could play my own game file on Card B while his was on Card A.

That would be so neat, but very hard to fit in I imagine. D: Would be nice if a huge 3D console game did that, though!

I wouldn't think it's too hard to do. I mean, the DS hardware is more than capable. I guess they just never thought it was a good idea or something.

You can do this on several GBA games, but that's because after you complete each level they give you a CODE instead of a file.

Kinda misses the point there, but you could just look up all the codes online.

The problem is that a Pokémon save file uses much more space than any other games (just look how much memory a single Pokémon data structure takes), and the way in which the storage system and checksums are handled would require bigger DS carts.

Yeah. Even Bulbapedia says if you run out of a building in Hearthome in Platinum the DS lags a bit.

True. One file is a bit too much, so imagine how much space it would need for three files.

I don't think that there's actually memory limit in DS cartridges like in older games. I mean, if they need more memory, it would be possible. Nowadays there's not such a problem like "space limit" like in the past, technology constantly develops smaller ways to save more and more data. And DS cartiridges aren't that small, I belive that we haven't seen yet the full memory potential. But of course more memory in DS card is more expensive for them too.

I think it's just their decision, and maybe about sells too. Many people actually buy both versions (and third too) of Pokémon games, not only because of version exclusive Pokémons, but because they want play the story again without losing their old save.

Another reason besides the above mentioned is probably that it makes it too easy to obtain almost endless legendaries with one save file.

I second Pokèmon taking up a lot of space.
I have Pokèmon Colloseum, and when I tried to save on it I figured I had to clear some space on my brother's Memory card to fit it in... and it had one file on it...
A single file from Pokèmon Colloseum pretty much fills up the old Game Cube-card O.O
I also had a hacked copy called "Pokèmon 2" once, which contained both Gold and Silver, even so, it could still only save one file at a time. (True it was fake but still...)

Also even if technology does give it more space, Nintendo keeps creating more and more new Pokèmon, Generation IV has 493 Pokèmon installed, even more various movesets, different forms for certain Pokèmon (Shaymin even has different level-up moves depending on its form)

i think if nintendo tried, they can pull it off. i read somewhere that nsmb wii only filled up like half a disk. the only problem they might have with it is people using one file as a main and the other to constantly collect legendaries/events even though some of us already do that with multiple carts.

The concept of having multiple save files in one cart sounds cool, but that may not happen due to technological limitations.

I hope GameFreak does multiple save files in Gen V (or possibly beyond that).

I think it could have been possible if they could make some cards, paks or something which contained save files.

It would be cool, but they would need LOTS of saveram. Of course, they could use flash, as flash memory is cheap, but its slow.

Also, other RPGs use multiple save slots, and i've seen games like Kotor or mass effect do it.

Though, on the console games, you can use multiple memory cards.
