The exact opposite to the Most unbelievable victories thread, what were some of the most believable victories in the show? Were the victories justified by strategy? Type advantage? Previous training? Or perhaps something else?

Satoshi's battle against Asuna was pretty believable. It was nice to see him handle Heigani when it fell asleep as well as him switching out his Pokémon like Trainers do in the video games.

Arceus vs. the Meteor

Mamoswine & Pachirisu vs. Ursula's Flareon & Gabite

Dr. Proctor vs. Team Rocket

Dino vs. Antonio

Ash vs. Tamato Berry Filling inside ice cream

Yawn vs. Vital Spirit

Sing vs. Soundproof

Iris vs. Stephan

Ash's rematch against Surge. This time he used Pikachu's strength (his speed) to counter Raichu's weakness (lack of speed).

The most believable victories were mostly normal battles with trainers or the league. I can't name names because there are alot I find believable.

Ones where the 'mons overcome type disadvantages in a sensible way tend to be the better examples imo.
Grovyle vs. Winona's Altaria got a lot of flak back in the day, but I thought they handled it really well. They managed to get around Altaria being too high to reach by using Grovyle's tree hopping skills to their advantage, and screw the type chart; Bullet Seed to the back before slamming the opponent into the ground with a Leaf Blade to the fecking neck is gonna hurt.

Ash Vs Wake. Ash used type advantages and strategy effectively to win without losing a single Pokemon, but Wake still put up a good fight and had many excellent battle tactics of his own, such as using Quagsire's hearing to evade Turtwig's attacks and Floatzel's flotation sac to withstand and reflect moves.

Pikachu vs Excadrill. There's no way Pikachu could have won that battle believably.

Indeed, I really thought what is widely considered as Sinnoh's worst gym battle to actually be rather well written. Shame the other aspects (read: animation) of that battle didn't match it up.

Buizel Vs. Lucario. Not only was it handled well, its easily the highlight of DP.

I found Ash vs Drake (Orange League Championship) to be rather believable, for the most part. Taking down Dragonite took the combined effort of four of Ash's Pokemon, and that's what I would call realistic writing.

I'll try to go by main characters, there were many more, but I'll name the unique ones:

For Ash: Ash vs Ash vs Misty(battle for Totodile): Ash used all type advantages, and he won best 2 out of 3. Despite an evolution, there was no cheapness involved on Misty's part, yet the writers were still able to make them both come out with something from the battle. That is rare, but good.

For Dawn: Dawn vs Ursula(2nd contest battle): By this point, I think everyone wanted Dawn to get her final ribbon, but that's not the reason for the victory's believable factor. Despite being behind in points, Dawn's comeback was phenomenal. Flameice, having Mamoswine and Cyndaquil attack each other to break free of Encore, and Dawn's constant prevention of letting Ursula gaining more of a lead in the last 30 seconds was awesome. Even if, it was the LONGEST 30 seconds ever lol

For May: May vs Grace(May's first Hoenn Ribbon): This battle was proof experience with contests don't matter much when battling at times. Beautifly wrapping Medicham in string shot and immobilizing it's arms with Silver Wind, with one final collision strike was beautiful, and well done. Probably one of my fav battles of May's in general.

For Misty: Misty vs Harrison(Quilfish vs Corsola): I liked it, I thought it was funny how Quilfish got caught in the horns of Corsola. It was realistic in the sense that a spike cannon in the mouth must be fucking painful. It was also a time where I actually gave Misty some credit. So, for it's time, it was definitely a believable victory.

For Brock: Honestly.....it really is hard for me to even give him one, because he barely had any. I don't remember any promising victories very well. Loved Brock....before DP. Nothing against him, just....can't...think...of...anything.

For Cilan: Cilan vs Trip(Just for seeing Trip get his ass handed to him, it was some Karma and I had no qualms about giving Dent props).

For Iris: To be fair, if Lucario vs Buizel can be counted, I'll count Excadrill vs Beartic(2nd time)

For non-main characters or such: Definitely Nando vs Zoey, and Paul vs Barry.

^ Brock's best battles were the tag match with Ash in Pewter Gym against TR and the tag battle with Holly.

Thanks for clarifying but isn't that a shame? His best battles were shared with others and not even that memorable. I enjoyed pre-DP Brock just as much as the next fan but it's a shame he doesn't have more to list.

I am pretty sure he won some battles in Kanto or Johto. In AG he battled...erm...someone.

You know I don't think Ludicolo in any of it's forms ever had a proper trainer battle outside of TR.

I liked the battle between Ash and that girl with the Walrein dugtrio, and misdreavus in the hoenn league. Both sides used a ton of strategies and I especially liked the trainer sacrificing misdreavus with destiny bond that got rid of glalie .That was very well done .

Iris's Excadrill VS. Ash's Pikachu

Georgia Beartic VS. Iris's Axew

Sewaddle VS. Dwebble

Palpitoad VS. Zebstrika

Oshawott VS. Krokorok

Trip's Tranquill VS. Ash's Tepig and Oshawott

Ash's Pikachu VS. Trip's Tranquill

Iris's Emolga VS. Stephan's Sawk

Drayden's Haxorus VS. Iris's Excadrill

Ash's Snivy and Pikachu VS. Professor Zager's Helicopter

Subway Bosses VS. Ash and Cilan

Against Gary in the Johto League and against Paul in the Sinnoh League.

I guess the Blaine battle. Specially looking back now that Magmar has been retconned to middle evolution since then. xD
