I am referring to the battle techniques that make you either want to punch the trainer or Pokemon using because they are so cruel and painful or make you wish that you could use them because they are reckless yet effective.

Examples; Sho’s Raichu trapping opponents with its tail for a close-range Hyper Beam, Paul telling Chimchar to use Flame Wheel on Ash’s Turtwig during the Tag Battle Competition or Lt. Surge’s Raichu hitting Pikachu over and over again with its tail while it was on the ground and couldn’t get up, etc.

So, what moments do you recall when brutal techniques were used in the show?

In Chim-Charred, when Paul's Gliscor was battling against Ash's Gligar. That Guillotine attack looked extremely painful. I think it's the only time I felt bad for a Pokémon because it received an attack like that.

That was a brutal battle, its like in the early days of DP when Ash battled Paul, he would purposefully pick a Pokemon with an advantage over Ash. Chimchar vs. Turtwig, Gliscor vs. Gligar or Honchcrow vs. Turwig, etc.

That attack even the Knock Off attack before the finishing move looked extremely painful. I'd say Paul used some of the most brutal attacks not just in battle but in training his Pokemon as well.

@Paulisthebest I agree. That's why I didn't like Paul at first, his Pokémon just looked like they wanted to hurt to opposing Pokémon, instead of battling fair and square. In the end his character grew on me, but I still feel a bit uneasy about his style of battle.

True, being a Paul fan, I felt that he didn't make the battles fair but with Ash being Ash even when he lost he had a way of making his Pokemon go out in style by doing some techniques that were pretty unique like Turtwig dodging numerous attacks from a flying type or putting up a good fight against Chimchar a type its weak against.

Yeah, especially during his first full battle with Ash all of his Pokemon especially Ursaring did major damage before knocking out Ash's team.

Some strategies I agree with and others I don't but at the first gym when dealing with Stealth Rock I think he did the right thing if he didn't then he would have lost for sure.

I was just thinking about this topic earlier in the afternoon. In the Battle Frontier Arc against Brandon's Regirock when "posessed" Ash told Grovyle to use Leaf Blade on its Legs/knees.

Paul's Ursaring Throhing Pikachu into Lake Acuity after gaining power from Guts.

Let the N jokes Begin........

Or telling Grovyle to hide behind the referee to avoid a Hyper Beam (I think that was the attack, maybe it was Zap Cannon).

I think Ursaring went a bit overboard in that battle. Guts helped but it was like he was going berserk. He managed to defeat 3 of Ash's Pokémon, which is a bit too much, in my opinion, no matter how strong he is. It was probably just to be sure that Ash would lose the battle afterward while giving Chimchar his time to shine against Ursaring and Electabuzz. On that note, I think he should've defeated both, considering that he evolved during the battle.

Paul was pushing Chimchar hard enough in that battle. I think it was actually hard enough to win, even if he didn't get rid of Stealth Rock, considering the type advantage of Dig and Brick Break. That was actually a good move from Paul's part, in my opinion.

Err... Paul's Ursaring takes the prize...
And as much as I like Raichu, I have to admit that their trainer's techniques are pretty brutal... though being thrown against a tree isn't all that good for your back, ya know...
As for Tail Whip being constantly used on Pikachu, we saw Pikachu do almost the same thing to Volkner's Luxray.

"From Brags to Riches": Ash having Corphish eject bubblebeam directly into Swalot's guts. That looked painful. :/

I don't think this was necessary cruel, but I found the Kikuno's battle with Satoshi to be incredibly dangerous at the end. Kabaldon literally used Fire Fang to implant Dodaitoise's head straight into the ground with both the weight of their bodies behind it. While humans obviously =/= Pokémon, doing that to a human has a fair chance of severely damaging their spinal cord and neck and so I'm sure that would have KO'd any Pokémon.

That part in Losing It's Lustrous where Saturn's Toxicroak sent Croagunk crashing through the glass roof, and then used the full force of diving off the roof to stab it in the chest with it's knuckle claw. It was especially jarring since it actually looked like Toxicroak had just killed Croagunk.

I thought Aipom Focus Punching Gardenia's Roserade through a tree and into a wall back in DP037 was pretty brutal. ><

When you put into prospective how painful a battle can and most likely will be for a pokemon they all look pretty brutal in that prospective.I mean after some battles pokemon look like there ready to die it makes me wonder how many trainers actually think about that. Also it makes me wonder why pokemon battle so much if it causes at least one most of the time both of them some pain to extreme pain.It is clear that pokemon can take quite the beating they should get quite a bit of respect for all they can take on.

love this thread it's thread like these that make it worth while to be active in more then one pokemon forum.

as for brutal battles/techniques dang i know there are a lot but i can't actually seem to remeber any.

i guess conway shooting sludge bomb into gibles mouth? that certainly seemed pretty dang brutal and also i loved conway's smug little "please put shuckle down" after it. oh and lets not forget gibles responce of draco meteoring shuckle into the air that was pretty brutal.

Toxicroak's "meteor smash" Poison Jab definitely takes the cake. Seriously, I did not expect something so brutal from the anime.

Of course, Ash's Gible using point-blank shots with Draco Meteor is a close second.

Third is Brock's Croagunk bouncing Saturn's Toxicroak's head off a tile floor.

I wouldn't call that cruel because remember Ash had Treecko do it to Brawly's Hariyama and Paul told Elekid and Chimchar to aim their attacks at Roark's Cranidos' legs it is good strategy because these Pokemon use their legs to support and or move quickly (in Cranidos' case) because of their heavy body weights and that is a good way to slow them down in order to prevent them from successfully landing attacks and so that your Pokemon can do some real damage.

Now if you want brutal or cruel, looking back at that same battle when possessed Ash told Sceptile to aim Bullet Seed at the ceiling and it collapsed on Regirock, now that was too underhanded.

Wouldn't really call it a technique but the way Paul's Ursaring attacks it's opponent seems like it wants to rip them into tiny shreds.

Paul's ursaring overall was a BRUTAL fighter. Also conway telling shuckle to sludgebomb gibles insides....that was just nasty.
