So has there ever been a moment or even episode of the show that you've found particulary cheesy or overly sappy, to the point of feeling slightly (or even greatly!) embarrassed to be watching? Was it brought on just because you found it silly in itself, or because someone in your company decided to make some commentary about it?

(None of those 'why should I be embarrassed? There's no shame in watching pokemon' type comments please. This is more looking back and having fun remembering silly stuff!)

To get the ball rolling, a big one I remember from my childhood was most of the scenes leading up to Ash getting stoned in the first movie. The slow motion footage of pokemon slapping each other, the soppy background music, the hamfisted morals. But it was nothing compared to the motionless Ash lying on the ground as the pokemon's tears brought him back to life. Young Grave-e slunk right back into his cinema seat.

Otherwise, the 'karaeokemon' stuff would never be on TV for more than a second if I had company. 'Pikachu, you are my brother'? Instant channel change!

Karaokemon for sure. Remember that I watched Pokémon in German for a good while so all karaokemon songs were dubbed in German.

The worst song was the TR song in which some strange and unfitting singers tried to sound like the US VAs of Team Rocket when Jessie and James in German sound much nicer. The "motto" was also a DIRECT translation of the US motto while the regular German motto was a little different. Doesn't help that the song was cheesy as hell.
"TEAM ROCKET LOS! MIT LICHTGESCHWINDIGKEIT!" urg...

Various little plot details are so stupid from time to time as well. Anyone remembers DP's psyduck blockade-episode? I never understood why the gang just went around said canyon or tried to walk up the mountains around it. The whole episode didn't make sense.

But ot be honest, Pokémon isn't so bad when it comes to embarassing moments. I have all German SailorMoon episodes (198 plus movies :p, yeah, I am a MAN! xD) on VHS and SM has more of this "embarrassing moments" if you ask me.
Rewatching "Samurai Pizza cats" for the first time after 20 years made me feel very unconfortable as well...

Karaokemon sounds like a silly square shaped digital monster that has a LSD screen to display its face and uses a microphone to shot multicolor projectiles shaped as musical notes.

EEH,I would say the third Japanese ending,I cant believe I saw that thing xD

And some karaoke songs were so so corny,so much that they were ...NSFW, in the most primitive sense of the phrase.

You and me and pokemonurgg

Pikabro is my Brotha, yo.

I can think of lots of overly sappy stuff. In AG, I recall many of the "May's a girl, she has to cry" moments when it came to things I just didn't care about. Whenever she would get separated from Max, for instance. Per the course, both of them would ponder their memories of being together, they'd eventually meet back up, bawling their eyes out, knowing how much they cared for one another (despite how silly their brother/sister could be tee-hee!). Same sappiness applies to when she was contemplating her losses at the Grand Festival and what to do from that point on. I believe there was even a clichéd sunset too.

Any time a Pokemon falls in loves is overly cheesy. The guys up top must have a weird sense of what love can be. Like being struck by cupids arrow, the Pokie in question gets all tongue-tied, puppy dog-eyed, dry-mouth, goose-stepped, and singles out the Pokemon he or she is infatuated with as the true one and only that there could ever be. Sometimes it's funny; most of the time it's the same 'crazy in love' antics we've gotten before.

I also thought Chimchar's scene with Ash in DP were over-the-top sapcheesy.

Another one:

I don't know if it's dub-added ( I think so), but somewhere in the depths of Johto Meowth made a fart-joke while digging a tunnel.
Something like:
James: "What's that smell?"
Meowth: "Sorry, that was me."

In the German dub of the Hoenn miracle island episode Ash ordered the following ( rough translation):

"We'll show them, Bodo! Burp attack, go!"
instead of: "We'll show them, Pikachu! Thunderbolt attack!"

REALLY quality work there guys...

For some reason I found that very embarrassing...thank God that's not the norm for Pokémon.

The Eurovision Song Contest which is running right now is pretty embarrassing as well, especially our German entry who tries to sing english with an accent...but that's another story...

I was embarrassed to be be watching the show when I heard this. Ash vs. Fantina.

"Whoa, she's holding a pokeball."

... Really? even the bit that comes after it doesn't make up for that stupid statement.

Dub Team Rocket makes me want to bury myself deep in the ground and never come out. Why, god, WHY do the writers think anything they make the Rockets say is funny? They're not always funny in the original Japanese, but most of the time they make sense and aren't so embarrassing as they are in the dub.

I vaguely recall the Pokérap moritfying younger me.
By which you mean inspiring you to become the man you are today, as it did every child of a generation?

Honestly though, not entirely sure if I can even say this, but a whole lot of what 4Kids did really. Kinda embarrassing that they used to dub pokemon as a whole.

Let me know if this somehow goes against the VA ban and I'll hastily delete it.

The episode where all the Pikachu are singing "pi-pika-pikachu-pi-pi-ka-pikachu" and the one where all the Clefairy are dancing and singing.

And the episode where the Quagsire collect spherical things and launch it with water gun.

Every single time a 'who the pokemon/what the pokemon/etc etc' line comes up. /shudder

Oh Misty's Goodbye song and the first DP opening *cringes*

Brianna's existence. Hormonally charged little girl needs to realize they make drugs to control the problem she has. Every time I watch Spontaneous Combusken I'm tempted to get on my laptop and whip up a Brianna Epic face/Jizz in my pants gif...

Pokerap.

The 'rapping' in the beginning of the first DP English opening.

Rap does not suit the pokemon world.

People dissing on the Pokerap? BLASPHEMY!

I wouldn't call this embarrassing but the first Japanese ending was definitely weird. 2 minutes of nothing but Pikachu bouncing a Pokeball again and again...

That was oddly hypnotic though
