Most epic Pokemon battles in the anime

My choice for the most epic anime battle was Grovyle vs. Walrein (in AG129). Ash had to use some crazy strategies to beat his opponent.

So what do you think is the anime's most epic battle?
 
Ash vs The Orange Islands Champion(forgot his name). Best pokemon battle of all time.
 
So battles based on individual pokemon rather than the full battles with trainers?

Don't think there have been really any "epic" battles in Pokemon yet. There have been several decent ones though.

I have a feeling that the battle against the legendary trainer will be into the category of epic though. Most of Sinnoh League battles in general will probably fall into this category. Ash's intelligence seems to take a sudden jump in level when he gets to the league, and the fact that's he's using reserves makes this league look extremely promising.
 
It may not be epic in the traditional sense, but one of my all-time favorite battles was Pikachu and Fushigidane and Zenigame and Lizardon vs. Arbok and Matadogas and Beroringa and Utsubot from EP117. The fact that it's a four-way fight between Satoshi's heaviest hitters and Musashi and Kojirou's entire team makes it exciting enough, but also being directed by the inimitable Masaaki Iwane was just the icing on the cake.

I especially love the touch at the very end, where all four Rocket-dan Pokémon get blasted into the sky and emit a four-syllable cry that's obviously supposed to be Pokémon-speak for "Ya na kanji~!"
 
My absolute favourite battles are both from Sinnoh; Ash vs. Fantina (the rematch) and Gary vs. Saturn.

The Hearthome Gym battle in Shield with a Twist was simply... amazing. Ash had to develop an entirely new strategy to deal with Fantina's Pokémon, and she really felt like a great opponent. (Too bad she's not that strong in the games. *laughs*)

And then there's Gary's battle against Saturn, showed in The Needs of the Three. Sure, it wasn't completely fair, and sure, Gary didn't really get a chance to do too much, but that's really what made it so great. Gary was (almost) always showed as being stronger than Ash, and Saturn defeating him that easily really gave an impression of how incredible Team Galactic were, and how impossible tough it would be for Ash and his friends to defeat them.

Ah...lets see...my most fauvorite battles in the anime are all the ones with Paul in it,May vs Drew in the Kanto GF,Bertha vs Ash,Hikari vs Urara(Asatsuki Contest)...and of course...

Mine are May vs Drew(all really) Misty vs Ash(all)

Jessie vs Ursula, Dawn vs Ursula, Dawn vs May

Misty vs everybody she faced professionally.
 
How can you just forget the mother of all battles?:flinch:

It's "Top Down Training", where the most powerful champion in the world, the great and unique Cynthia, smashed Paul entirely.

This was by far the most epic battle!

Next is Ash vs. Paul in "Pedal To The Mettle" and "Evolving Strategies", followed by Ash vs. Brandon and Paul vs. Brandon

Ignoring the might of Metapod vs Metapod, I really enjoyed Charizard vs Magmar. It was impressive, compared to Kanto's usually lackluster Gym battles.

Haven't watched DP completely so no comments on the battles in these seasons.

These are some of the best battles ever. The bolded ones are my favourites out of these.
 
Well, I quit watching the anime after the Hoenn Pokemon League, but frankly, the greatest battle had to be Ash vs. Gary at the end of Johto.
Magmar vs. Charizard is also excellent.
Probably the best gym leader matches I saw were vs. Clair and the Brawly rematch.
Though, Metapod vs. Metapod fits the bill as "most epic".
