I wasn't sure where to post this, so forgive me if it looks like a double-post.

Are there any moves in the anime you think are overused by too many Pokemon? I'll list my examples.

-Attract
-Aerial Ace
-Hidden Power

Attract? That one only started seeing a lot of use with Gen V.

True, but I just noticed with Gen 5 anime episodes that a lot of Pokemon carry the same moves, used over and over again, like Attract. How many Pokemon known Hidden Power, too, when they could have something else? Or Aerial Ace? Or Stone Edge?

I remembered in AG Iron Tail, Water Pulse, Focus Punch, and Shadow Ball were overused quite a lot. In Johto Water Gun was token moves for almost all of Misty's Pokemon and any other Water-type.

-Bubblebeam
-Energy Ball
-Rock Smash
-Flamethrower
-Solar Beam
-Aerial Ace
-Swift
-Hydro Pump

Dig, Swift, Razor Leaf, Vine Whip, Water Gun, Iron Tail, etc

Are you a belligerent wild Pokemon or owned by a villain? Then you're entitled to a free TM15! Enjoy spamming Hyper Beam.

Tackle
Dig
Protect
Thunderbolt (Let's be real its Pikachu's "signature" move in the anime)
Iron Tail (Pre BW series anyway)
Attract
Water Gun
Quick Attack
Flamethrower
Shadow Ball
Double Team
Aerial Ace
Hyper Beam
Hidden Power
X-Scissor
Swift
Aura Sphere (EVERY Lucario seen knows it...I think so anyway)
Flame Charge

and the list goes on...

Oh yeah Instant Freeze Ice Beam; because unlike the games it seems that nearly EVERY Ice Beam attack is able to freeze the opponent

Just about any move that Our Gang's Pokémon know, since TPTB are strictly enforcing the four-move-per-Pokémon limit.

There are some moves that have been more frequently used in various series. In the OS, we've seen a lot of Water Gun (since nearly EVERY Water-type in the gang knew it), Tackle, Flamethrower, Vine Whip, and Razor Leaf; a lot of Iron Tail in AG (and from then on), Bullet Seed, and still quite a bit of Water Gun; Bubblebeam, Whirlpool, and Aqua Jet DP; and BW, Attract.

But there are also moves we've seen a lot at various time throughout the anime such as Thunderbolt (obviously), the aforementioned Water Gun and Iron Tail, Focus Blast, Shadow Ball, Poison Tail, Steel Wing and I'm sure there are others.

Look on Bulbapedia and it will tell You all the Pokemon in the Anime that have used all of these moves and I really am getting sick and tired of Tackle.

- Thunderbolt (literally Pikachu's signature move)
- Tackle (usually used by non-evolved pokemon belonging to the main cast and COTDs; this move often gets replaced if a main character's pokemon knows it at first)
- Take Down/Double Edge (similar moves as Tackle that have been used by stronger and evolved pokemon belonging to COTDs)
- Water Gun (almost given that any cameo Water-type pokemon shown in the anime will use it; many of Ash's water-type pokemon that can learn this move have been shown using it)
- Hidden Power (wasn't used often in Johto, but became a very often used move starting in AG)
- Quick Attack (used often by Pikachu as its speed attack, and many of Ash's regional bird pokemon know this move as well)
- Bubblebeam (used often by Piplup in DP, but prior to that some Water-types like Ash's Corphish and water-types owned by COTDs used this move)
- Flamethrower (almost every Fire-type pokemon in the anime has this move, and all but one of Ash's Fire-types had this move before they were caught)
- Ice Beam (many Water and Ice-type pokemon shown in the anime had this move in their arsenal, including May's Squirtle-Wartortle and Ash's Glalie)
- Aerial Ace (ever since the move was first introduced in AG, many Flying-type pokemon and even quite a few non-Flying types, such as Ash's Krookodile and Quilava, have been shown to use this move)
- Hyper Beam (used most infamously by Ursaring)
- Attract (it wasn't an issue until BW when two main characters and a rival caught pokemon that knew this move)
- Dig (since other Ground-type moves such as Earthquake and Magnitude are "taboo" moves in the anime, obviously many Ground-type pokemon in the anime have this move)
- Shadow Ball (it is almost a given for Ghost-type pokemon in the anime to use this move; even the two Ghost-types owned by TRio have it in their move pools)
- Protect (this move wasn't used until AG, but it was used to death in both AG and DP)
- Solarbeam (like Shadow Ball, almost given that non-main Grass-type pokemon in the anime have this move in their arsenal)
- Psychic/Confusion (many Psychic-type pokemon, and occasionally Ghost-types, would use this move to "levitate" objects in the air)
- Sandstorm (many Rock and Ground-type pokemon use this move to hide from their opponents)
- Double Team (since almost any pokemon that can learn TMs can learn this move and it can raise evasion, it's not surprising many pokemon use it in battle)
- Focus Blast (although it was a move used in DP and had not been seen in the anime until DP051, many pokemon that can learn this move have been shown using it, including two pokemon belonging to the BW main cast)
