(Sorry, couldn't find a clear picture)

In Pokémon, there are lots of different moves used by different Pokémon. Every week, we shall focus the discussion on a different move, and there will be some base questions that would help you start this off. This week, Celebrate is chosen.

Being that this is a very special milestone of this series, the 100th week, this move is chosen to celebrate the occasion. Celebrate is a newly-introduced move in Generation 6, and what's special about it is that it is one of the many moves that are only obtained through Events. Its effect isn't very essential, since it does nothing in battle except congratulate the player (they even turn to the player to use it!). It is also the final Move-of-the-week, which is something to celebrate as well.

Here's the in-game description for this move:

In-game Description (XY) said:
Type: Normal (Other)
Base Power: --
Accuracy: --%
PP: 40

The Pokémon congratulates you on your special day!

Here are the usual possible questions about this move:
  • How does certain Pokémon (who knows it) use this move? What kind of purpose would this move have for them (in the Pokémon World)?
  • How could this move be used to aid a profession in the Pokémon World?
  • Could this move realistically be used by any Pokémon who doesn't learn it normally? If yes, please explain your choices.
  • How would this move be used in battling, realistically?

Other questions (You could ask other critical questions beyond the listed):
  • Contests are likely to return in the following installment of Ruby and Sapphire's remakes. What use is this move in a contest?
  • Do any Pokémon who use this move do a special performance or dance if they used this move?
  • Assuming any Pokémon gains access to this move, which Pokémon is best used with this move, and on what occasion?

Here are the current users for this move:
(Event Only)
  • Pikachu & Raichu
  • Eevee, Vaporeon, Jolteon, Flareon, Espeon, Umbreon, Leafeon, Glaceon & Sylveon

Thanks for reading, and happy discussing!

Previous Move-of-the-Weeks:

So this is the end of the Move-of-the-Week series. Unfortunately, this series won't see the second anniversary, but considering how activity is very sporadic, stopping it is for the better. I do wish I could have manage this series better, but I felt I did what I could with it. There will be a new discussion series in the future, so watch out for it.

I would like to thank all of you who participated in this series at one point of time or another. It has been a pleasure to see your responses for each thread here.

A very appropriate move to commemorate the occasion. :yahoo:

To be honest I didn't realize this move existed until now. It's certainly a cute move, despite being completely useless in battle. I could see it being used to show off in friendly matches (either in game or in the Pokemon World) similar to taunts in Super Smash Bros.

I could see it being useful in contests. Assuming they work like they did in Gen III, it might raise the condition of your Pokemon or distract other Pokemon.

In my opinion, this would be just a great contest-move. The Pokemon would have to use its charm and use its move to create aesthetic effects that would look like a "celebration". Pikachu could use its electric attacks to create beautiful sparks or Sylveon can create some fairy-like atmosphere and effects. And it would differ and at some point unique to the Pokemon. In game, during Pokemon Contest, it would be a neat idea to be able to customize your Pokemon's "Celebrate" move and you can join Pokemon Contest online with other players. I think there's a huge potential in here.

p.s
I really did enjoyed this series and learned a lot reading the other user's insights and thoughts about the Pokemon moves.

Aw, the final one? I didn't post much, but I now remember posting about Freeze Shock and Freeze Burn and so much else....

OK, Celebrate. For some reason, I'm in the mood to answer all the suggested questions, so let's go.

Maybe Pokemon use it by making a 'box' out of their respective elemental association, and make confetti similarly? Lame explanation, but I can't come up with anything else that makes sense.

Celebrate could be used in Pokeverse places like Chuck E. Raticate or something that celebrates birthdays for kids? Pikachu is certainly popular in universe, along with Eeveelutions (mostly out of universe, though)

Celebrate could be used by Arceus since he can create the gift box and confetti or whatever out of thin air because he is it's resident God, but maybe other legendaries as well?

In battling, it, well, CAN'T be used realistically. It would just distract Trainer and Pokemon alike and give the opponent a free move. It would be used OOB (Out of Battle)

Contests would be this move's chief use. I imagine since it is event-exclusive, it is going to be an incredibly OP move as far as contests go. If that's the case, I can vision clearly an event Milotic/Feebas with it.

Uh, it has to be done to a dance or whatever for it to work. This question doesn't make the most sense.

Pikachu would be best used with it, in all honesty, if it is used in a contest. Pikachu is shown to be incredibly popular in universe, as already mentioned, so there would be a lot of appeal in a Pikachu using it both for judge and audience. If a trainer is idiotic enough to use it in battle, Jolteon would be best suited because he would be much more likely to dodge the opponent's effective free turn. Gameplay wise, it would be Umbreon for the best bulk.

Sorry if this seemed sporadic, but I'm kinda half-asleep. Thank you winstein for working on this even when almost no one seemed to post; you've done a great job with it. I hope you enjoyed it as well.
