(Just a reminder: This week is voting week!)

In Pokémon, there are lots of different moves used by different Pokémon. However, there are certain moves we don't normally see being used, heard about, or used in a meaningful manner. On the other hand, there are moves we see that are famous or used often. In this type of discussion, we shall discuss the ins-and-outs of the move of the topic, and there will be some base questions that would help you start this off. Every Saturday, a different move will be the centre of discussion.

In-game Description (Move) said:
Type: Dark (Status)
Accuracy: --
PP: 20

The target is taunted into a rage that allows it to use only attack moves for three turns.

Taunt was introduced in Generation 3, and it continues to be one of the game's TMs. This move, as the description suggests, allows the target to only use attacking moves. This effect works immediately after this move is used, meaning that it could prevent a target from using a dreadful move. If they cannot use any other move due to other restrictions such as having no attacking moves, then they will be forced to Struggle. It is sort of a counterpart to Torment (which was covered two weeks ago), as both moves deal with move prevention, while also having the effect of enraging the target.

Here are the usual possible questions about this move:
  • How do certain Pokémon (who knows it) use this move?
  • What kind of purpose would this move have for them (in the Pokémon World)?
  • How could this move be used to aid a profession in the Pokémon World?
  • Realistically, would there be any advantage or disadvantage associated with using this move? If yes, what kind of advantage/disadvantage would the user have when they use it?
  • Could this move realistically be used by any Pokémon who doesn't learn it normally? If yes, please explain your choices.
  • How would this move be used in battling, realistically or video game-wise?

Other questions (You could ask other critical questions beyond the listed):
  • What characteristics do the current learners have to be about to Taunt someone or something?
  • In terms of enraging the target, what is the difference between this move and Taunt?

Here are the current users of this move (Put in Spoiler tag since a lot of learners are listed):

Previous Move-of-the-Weeks:

For every five weeks (will be four next time), users get to vote for the next move to be the next Move-of-the-Week. However, you can't choose just any move. To narrow down the selection of potential moves, a criteria for the next move would be placed. If you want to vote, at least contribute to the topic in hand to give your post some substance (and also because this topic is about the current move, not about voting for the next move). If you posted just to vote, your vote won't be considered.

One more thing: if a move is already covered in a past Move-of-the-Week, then it won't be considered, so make sure to check the list to see if the move you wish to vote had already been covered.

Criterion for next move: Normal Status (Check here for the list)

Given the name of the move, other Pokemon could use it in various ways: Sticking their tongue, pulling their lower eye socket, inappropriate body gestures, etc. To be fair, the move will not be useful in a situation outside of battles, as it could lead to a long chase by the person/pokemon you've just taunted.

I vote for Heal Bell.

Ah Taunt, one of my absolute favourite moves. With just a click, you can block status, entry hazards, phazing, setup, break stall, grab your own setup opportunity...the possibilities go on. It's just indispensable.

As for how it works, well...

For next week's move, I vote for Assist.

It's one of the moves my friend told me about when you have enough time to stall. Get a pokemon with Pressure, teach it Taunt, and throw up protective shields after you taunted the opponent.

Though...I've once been pwned by an Absol that way and it really made me scream with frustration. Losing all your PP quickly is no fun ;_;

Then again, a pokemon with Mold Breaker could come in handy in those battles. At least you can hit the opponent whenever you want without having to worry about your PP too much.

Then again... Taunt is pretty useless if the opponent only has attack moves...

I choose Return!

I think its most popular usage is to counter Blissey and Ferrothorn.

Other than the assorted Dark types that learn it (most likely due to it being a Dark move), it looks like a lot of users are either small and fast or larger and tough. This leads me to believe that the user of the attack can either "taunt" an opponent by using their size to zip around and basically annoy them into straight up attacking or show off their strength in some way to enrage them.

Oh man, there's so many good normal moves to chose from. I think I'm going to vote Lucky Chant.

What characteristics do the current learners have to be about to Taunt someone or something?
Intimidating, large, and mean-looking. Also vicious, merciless. I can imagine a Mightyena for this move.

(Next week's move, I would like to vote for Tail Whip)

Hmm. Taunt. A great move to use against the likes of Ferrothorn and Blissey. I think they would stick out their toungue and try to mock their foes's cry or do what the animation does. I don't know what it would do for a profession and I could see Spearow/Fearow using it and maybe Blissey could too, I dunno about that one though. I think I'll vote for Attract.

Taunt. I don't use it all that much, but I love seeing "XXX can't use XXX because of the taunt!" I've predicted correctly, so it satisfies me.
I vote Wish for next week.

Always useful, but I wish pokémon had different animations for moves depending on who's using them, I could imagine a LOT of funny outcomes form that.

I vote for Accupressure.
