In Pokémon, there are lots of different moves used by different Pokémon. Every week, we shall focus the discussion on a different move, and there will be some base questions that would help you start this off. It had been a year of having Move-of-the-Weeks, so something special that is being done is to bring forward a move that is exclusive to legendary Pokémon. Because of this, Judgment is chosen this week.

Judgment is exclusive to the currently-known god of Pokémon Arceus, the most powerful legendary Pokémon introduced in Generation 4. This move is stated to be a Normal-type, but its type isn't always Normal, since this move's type corresponds to the type Plate the user equips, even if Smeargle uses it. This gives Arceus guaranteed STAB, which is very useful. Thankfully, nothing can remove Arceus' type plate due to its ability Multitype preventing that, so you don't have to worry about something puny messing up with your strategy. This move is known to be quite devastating because it has been shown in the movie to cause massive destruction, so it's something to be wary of.

Here's the in-game description of this move:

In-game Description (BW) said:
Type: Normal (Special)
Base Power: 100
Accuracy: 100%
PP: 10

The user releases countless shots of light at the target. Its type varies with the kind of Plate the user is holding.

Here are the usual possible questions about this move:
  • How does certain Pokémon (who knows it) use this move? What kind of purpose would this move have for them (in the Pokémon World)?
  • How could this move be used to aid a profession in the Pokémon World?
  • Could this move realistically be used by any Pokémon who doesn't learn it normally? If yes, please explain your choices.
  • How would this move be used in battling, realistically or video game-wise?

Other questions (You could ask other critical questions beyond the listed):
  • If this move were to be used in a real-life battle, would it cause collateral damage due to its power?
  • If the trainer commanded this attack, would they be protected from its side effects?
  • This question isn't related to the move, but it is related to Arceus' ability preventing its type Plate from being removed. What is preventing others from taking Arceus' type Plate away from moves such as Trick or Covet?

Here is the only user of this move:
(Level-up)
  • Arceus

Thanks for reading, and happy discussing!

Looks like there isn't any response after a week, so I will answer the questions I ask myself.

How could this move be used to aid a profession in the Pokémon World?

When I think of Judgement, I think of law. Seems like it could be used as a sort of punishment for criminals, I guess?

Could this move realistically be used by any Pokémon who doesn't learn it normally? If yes, please explain your choices.

I imagine that any godly Pokémon could feasibly use this move, especially the trio Arceus represents, which are Dialga, Palkia & Giratina. This move would have been very good for coverage as well (except Giratina-O), due to its great power compared to Hidden Power, although it would involve the specific plate.

If this move were to be used in a real-life battle, would it cause collateral damage due to its power?

I imagine that this move would have been really lethal if it is used, which is probably why it isn't allowed in battle facilities. It doesn't stop a trainer from using it in ordinary battles, though. In that case, I imagine that the impact is more controlled, so that neither trainer are hurt, but just the Pokemon.

If the trainer commanded this attack, would they be protected from its side effects?

It's hard to imagine trainers taking damage from their Pokemon's attacks, because the Pokemon wouldn't harm the trainer. I imagine that when it comes to Arceus, it knows where not to aim with the Judgement, or it could simply create some barrier on the trainer to shield the blast.

This question isn't related to the move, but it is related to Arceus' ability preventing its type Plate from being removed. What is preventing others from taking Arceus' type Plate away from moves such as Trick or Covet?

When I think of Arceus implementing its plates, its ornament around the chest (that resembles a fence to some) is changed, and that ornament is very difficult to remove, which is why the plate cannot be removed ordinarily.

Thanks for reading.
